  1. Many years ago I used study my Open University work in the room next to the TV room. To drown out the TV I put on music. But it had to be instrumental, similar to you. I didn't really have much to choose from.... I think Link Wray got a lot of plays!
  2. Similar to how I do it.
  3. Wow, they must have really wanted him to join!
  4. VU get a mention in the song too! (BTW I'm a big VU fan if you didn't guess!)
  5. Sorry, I am one of the moaners! Not sure if I can think of an exception.
  6. …… and then there is OCD about not sticking to the thread topic
  7. This was about Sid Vicious - "99% is Sh*t "by The Cash Pussies....... written after his death.
  8. Just been having a mooch around this forum......... here's a solo track of mine from years ago:
  9. yes.... and I don't like the set list to be visible to the audience at all. Spoils the surprise and so on.
  10. It wasn't me, but I remember it. I'm the opposite...….. It would bug me if they did point the same way...……. it looks like I don't know how to tune a Bass.
  11. I can't imagine "You're so vain" being about a bass player. I don't know if she ever wrote a song called "You're so modest (you probably think this song is about the lead guitarist)"
  12. ooh, ooh,...…. I've got one! "The Ox" by the Who. Oh, hang on.…………. it's an improvised instrumental so maybe not about John E. As you were!
  13. I'd agree with that one (exceptions apply!) One thing that I struggle with is music which lacks repetition. (I said.......... 😉)
  14. Yes, it's difficult. One thing I do is try to spot patterns.... like part A is always followed by part B. And make note of things that break a pattern..... like the third verse is shorter.
  15. I saw a band once (Pins)........ they did a soundcheck, and then left the stage for a while. The bass player just left the bass lying on the floor. Well I suppose it can't fall over from there!
  16. Don't know if it qualifies with your definition, and it happens more on other instruments than bass.......... but it's when people leave a clip-on tuner on the headstock during a performance.
  17. Maybe where the G string goes?
  18. Cheers! I didn’t see any alternatives when I searched, but that might be my lack of knowledge. Probably will not use the internal sounds much just two or three songs in my punk covers band. Still pondering!
  19. I love hearing stories about how records were made and so on… here’s my favourite which was related by Al Kooper about the distinctive organ on Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone”. Al was in a recording session for Dylan “Like a Rolling Stone” – on guitar. The producer was not happy with what he was doing so asked him to sit out. Then Al saw the organ in the corner of the room and asked the producer if he could play that instead. The producer was just about to say ‘no’… but got called away to take a phone call. So Al joined the session on organ. But because he didn’t know the chord structure very well he waited till the rest of the band had changed chord before he did… so that’s where he gets the great behind-the-beat organ part. Then the producer was going to bury the organ in the mix…. but Bob Dylan heard the organ part and said “Hey- what’s that?” and insisted that it was pushed right up in the mix. So please give any stories etc behind the recording - incidents, techniques, whatever!
  20. Here's a single by Billy Nomates - as featured on the Sleaford Mods track a few posts up:
  21. Yes, ..... he didn't even say it plays like butter!
  22. I hear Billy Nomates quite a bit on 6music, and it’s all really good stuff. Same goes for Sleaford Mods of course!
  23. I would have been annoyed too.... but as I am seeing it from a distance: I do have a bit of sympathy for StudioSpares and all other on-line vendors who have to deal with the threat from on-line robots. (Wow a few years ago that sentence would have sounded like science fiction!). OK they handled it badly, but maybe give them the chance to sort it out (which means ignoring the automated (?)response for now). If you don't get a decent response and/or resolution after a a couple of days, then I maybe I would not be so supportive of them.
  24. yes, I remember hearing the 'Relax' demo back then... I expected it to be rubbish from all the stories I heard. Yes the production was nowhere near as good, but the playing and arrangement was there. But mega-producers like Horne work how they work..... and get the results.
  25. I'm thinking of getting an Akai Mini play. I can use it as Midi controller at home, and as a live-sounds keyboard for simple lines in a band. Any opinions? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Akai-Professional-Mini-Built-board/dp/B07HDB12FM/ref=sr_1_3?adgrpid=60375068365&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw0On8BRAgEiwAincsHAvFl7qYrMsSbMtlSLCCNxjP3x3nonPlPkw3tyXKsaygz2LVieMbxhoC2pQQAvD_BwE&hvadid=310780406794&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1006687&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3059770512213661488&hvtargid=kwd-538938279260&hydadcr=27309_1732171&keywords=akai+mini+play&qid=1604007504&sr=8-3&tag=googhydr-21
