  1. Got loads. Dylan, John Lydon, Poly Styrene to name but three. But the best of all is Mark E Smith of the Fall. Prefer singers with character. Being able to sing is a side issue.
  2. Liked that. Good that they are still making great music ...………. bad that it is still as relevant .
  3. Modern folk band "Stick in the Wheel" sing in authentic London accent to very good effect:
  4. @lozkerr I'll IM you after work. If any money is to change hands maybe we could compromise on a donation of some kind?
  5. I'd never heard that parable before. Just googled it - very good! Thanks.
  6. Thanks! No, I never thought of my stuff having any commercial value or even being wanted for free! Happy for anyone to have a copy for nowt, I'd love folk to get a copy but don't know how to distribute.
  7. The recent thread from @wateroftyne was looking for songs about specific bass players.................and it reminded me of a song I wrote/recorded over lockdown about being a bass player. In particular about bass players who didn't choose bass, but had it pushed on them. It's inspired by quite a few stories I read on BC and elsewhere saying that the rest of the band 'put them on bass' and especially the story of Spandau Ballet - the manager told Gary Kemp to get Martin (who didn't play bass) in as bassist (even though they already had a bassist) because they needed a 'pin-up' in the band. The song is called "You're Gonna Play Bass"... here's the Soundcloud: (I normally record solo, but to get into the whole lockdown sprit got some remote guests on this one: Terry: Lead Guitar, Chris: Bass)
  8. Similar to @lozkerr i learn the bits and then draw a chart of how they fit together. In this case I do BVs. sometime it is lead vocal, but then only hints - say one key word per line. Interesting to see another such sheet. The rest of my band don't use them! First learn the bits, then learn to do it with the sheet, then learn to play it without the sheet.
  9. Many years ago I used study my Open University work in the room next to the TV room. To drown out the TV I put on music. But it had to be instrumental, similar to you. I didn't really have much to choose from.... I think Link Wray got a lot of plays!
  10. Wow, they must have really wanted him to join!
  11. VU get a mention in the song too! (BTW I'm a big VU fan if you didn't guess!)
  12. Sorry, I am one of the moaners! Not sure if I can think of an exception.
  13. …… and then there is OCD about not sticking to the thread topic
  14. This was about Sid Vicious - "99% is Sh*t "by The Cash Pussies....... written after his death.
  15. Just been having a mooch around this forum......... here's a solo track of mine from years ago:
  16. yes.... and I don't like the set list to be visible to the audience at all. Spoils the surprise and so on.
  17. It wasn't me, but I remember it. I'm the opposite...….. It would bug me if they did point the same way...……. it looks like I don't know how to tune a Bass.
  18. I can't imagine "You're so vain" being about a bass player. I don't know if she ever wrote a song called "You're so modest (you probably think this song is about the lead guitarist)"
  19. ooh, ooh,...…. I've got one! "The Ox" by the Who. Oh, hang on.…………. it's an improvised instrumental so maybe not about John E. As you were!
  20. I'd agree with that one (exceptions apply!) One thing that I struggle with is music which lacks repetition. (I said.......... 😉)
  21. Yes, it's difficult. One thing I do is try to spot patterns.... like part A is always followed by part B. And make note of things that break a pattern..... like the third verse is shorter.
  22. I saw a band once (Pins)........ they did a soundcheck, and then left the stage for a while. The bass player just left the bass lying on the floor. Well I suppose it can't fall over from there!
  23. Don't know if it qualifies with your definition, and it happens more on other instruments than bass.......... but it's when people leave a clip-on tuner on the headstock during a performance.
