  1. My covers band go for the exact arrangement by default . Sometimes it doesn’t work out and we may drop the song or occasionally “do it our way”.
  2. It's good that the thread has progressed from debating what counts as punk to what counts as a punk parody
  3. all recorded, and as of last night all watched. some thoughts: Poly: One of the main genius of punk. Sad that she had issues in her role as a mother, but glad that was eventually resolved White Riot: I'd always taken RAR for granted, never knew much about the people behind it before. Good to be able to recognise them. Punk music appealed to disaffected white kids, and RAR did a great job of preventing NF etc from capitalising on that. Pistols: Fantastic performance from Cook/Matlock/Jones. Tight as a nats chuff. Equality great from Lydon, but more playful than the original days! Looked like the crowd were having an absolute ball. Damned: Disclaimer - I only like the Damned as a punk band, I don't get the developments they made later. Sorry! Sad to see the massive rift between Sensible and Scabies, seemingly about alleged sharp financial practice by Scabies. Sensible suggesting they drop the only Scabies written track when they did a playback of the debut album. Strange (and sad) co-incidence anecdote from Paul Gray. Paul was getting a cancer diagnosis and in an idle chat with the doctor revealed he's served a few years as Damned bassist. Doctor looked shocked.... He'd given a similar diagnosis to another Damned bassist the week before (Bryn from the Eliose era). Paul is still with us (and back in the Damned I think) but Bryn sadly passed in 2015.
  4. Yes, my thought too. but I agree it’s a great track. they did do a punk mick take :“Thank You” which is worth a listen.
  5. Indeed you are not a native English speaker - but you have a talent for creating some very good new English phrases (e.g. backside damage). So thanks for that. Would be good if you could coin some equally good terms for the following: - Someone who signs up to a chat site purely to promote their own goods - an annoying youtuber - youtube click bait Thanks in advance...…..
  6. When I first saw the tread title I thought it was referring to bass players who will talk at length about tonewood or compression
  7. This one is recent - last few months and has a bassline which caught my ear. Rest of the band are not bad either!
  8. Just checked it out - yes I see what you mean... simple line, but nice tone etc.
  9. One of these? The show (Zoe Ball) started at 6.30
  10. Not posted a suggestion for a while, I'll that right now: Nuff Respect by Lady G
  11. Yes. Listen to it a fair bit, probably more than any other station. If I remember correctly they played Tomorrow Never Knows at breakfast time the other day - so that's not bad going!
  12. Daft Punk split a couple of weeks ago, after many years. So why do bands formally split up rather than just stopping doing anything?
  13. That was the soundtrack to my daily walk on Thursday just gone.
  14. Let’s get the cocoa on!
  15. No but I assume it was a result of the popularity of very early electronic bands like Kraftwerk. Not sure about that - my understanding is that it was intended as a kind of bass guitar substitute, the target market was not 'experimental' musicians.
  16. I finally got round to getting the Au Pairs back catalogue compilation a couple of weeks ago and came to exactly the same conclusion. In fact I listed to the whole double CD and thought how great it all was.... until very near the end when suddenly there were a few frankly awful songs. I checked out the sleeve notes........... they were recorded after Jane left. And shortly before the band packed up for good.
  17. Well it works for me anyway!
  18. And the 303 was definitely not invented to meet a demand for rave music. In general musicians find a way to abuse the inventions.
  19. Me too. It does look good, but none of the buttons are 'pressable' Seemed to work OK on an acoustic instument.
  20. Been posted here before but for example the invention of mics/amps for gigs was just intended to make the voice louder. But it actually made crooning possible. It was not demand for crooning which led to mic/amp invention.
  21. For some OTT punk bass lines check out Brian Ritchie on the Violent Femmes first album - e.g Blister in the Sun.
  22. Most Stranglers bass lines.
  23. Something for half time:
  24. Would need a decent EQ ...........to boost the centre-mids.
