  1. To a large extent Fender did get it right with the P and J bass body shapes. They fulfill the essentials of balance, access, and comfort etc. If pretty sure that when they came up with them they didn't just draw a shape and say "That'll do". Even the P & J shapes aren't really that far apart. These shapes can be tweaked by other companies, but in many cases coming up a dramatically/instantly recognisable different body shape is to the detriment of basic function. They same way that the vast majority of cars are basically the same shape. IMHO of course.
  2. Only if one is worried about weight I guess (I'm not). I like a fiver because of the low D, mainly as a low minor 7th when playing in E.
  3. Massive Rack. Phnaar Phnaar.
  4. Standing up while playing certainly has more visual impact than sitting down. A folk dance band I was in (playing melodeon) used to sit down. Then was at an event where the band was standing and we reolved to stand up from then on. If you are incapable of standing then there may be nothing you can do about it, but (IMHO) the visual impact will be diminished.
  5. 8 notes in a bar is acceptable if you're playing a whole gig while you're in there.
  6. I lost the will to live after 2 minutes
  7. Looking at the video the player hasn't got any head or shoulders, so nowhere to hang a strap. Therefore playing it on the floor. But as to the qusetion why? Jaco is dead, so I guess we'll never know.
  8. And what do they mean by "Europe" these days? Geographically Europe includes the UK, Russia and Scandanavia, and anything in between. The "EU" is far more restricted.
  9. Exactly that. A continuity tester is normally used to test connections of a nominal Zero Ohms.
  10. To most continuiyty testers R20K will register as an open circuit!
  11. Never knew him personally, but remeber his contributions here very well, so condolences to everyone. Strangely enough I was thinking about him a few weeks ago because we now have a member called just "Old Horse", and I was wondering if that was him, and if not where "Old Horse Murphy" was.
  12. Ah, but it was "R & B" (Good), whereas the new stuff is "R n B" (Bad).
  13. Singer sounds like a bit of a w**ker. Sees a potentially successful band and wants to get his mates in. Perhaps you should turn the tables and get another singer in.
  14. Note that Lead, especially lead shot (if loose) will damp vibrations, and might alter the tone.
  15. And TIM of course (not related to any any current member called Tim (or was he?)).
  16. For the instrument perhaps, but everyone bringing their own amps would be chaos. And, surely, part of being the house bassist is to provide the backline.
  17. Two possible answers to that: A: That's absoluetly fine, everyone has different tastes. Jaco was also an incredible player, but musically never hit the spot for me, whereas Mick Karn did. I could listen to Mick Karn all day. Jaco about 3 minutes. B: That's absoluetly fine, your are perfectly entitled to be wrong!😄
  18. Totally agre with the chap, except that Mick Karn should be rated, not "up with Jaco", but "well above Jaco".
  19. Two Jazz pickups and a P pickup on the American version, just the two jazz pickups on the Mexican version.
