1. How about 'Monster' by The Automatic.
 2. 'Action needs a little work, but other then that, it is in a decent condition'
 3.
Lovely job! How did you do the engraving on the neck plate & the decals on the headstock? Rich.
Thanks mate, much appreciated. I designed the neck plate text and found a company called FSR custom shop who done the work. Similarly with the decal, I used a company called the decal shop (funnily enough lol). Both superb to deal with, but the neck plate is excellent - job well done by the guy.
 4. Just had it confirmed - defo was a Columbus....my unc rubbed the original decal off.
 5.
that looks really great mate! the silver with the tort isn't something i would have thought of, but it really works!
Really kind of you to say so mate. I orginally had settled for a oly/tort finish, but I remembered years ago getting my hands on a pearl white Bass collection 5 string and thats the colour I fancied. In the flesh it's actually a champagne type finish but my cam couldn't quite get that across.
 6.
Wish my columbus looked like that XD. That headstock looks pretty big for a columbus, i certainly couldn't fit full size tuners on mine.
Well, I say Columbus..... My unc and Dad (who was there at the time), bought it as a Columbus, and they're adamant it's a columbus. However, the headstock was nameless........mmmm????!!!!! (he says, stroking his imaginary beard)
 7. Hiya folks, Been a while since I've posted on here, what with life and work and DIY etc, but at long last I've received my new build Jazz copy.....and I just had to share it. It started out it's life as my uncles 70's Columbus Jazz but was unfortunately knackered (pickups/electrics). So after much pleading with him, he agreed to hand it over and I let loose. I'm not going to overload the site with pics of the actual build itself, but thought it best to put a few on of the actual finished article. It has a new body (the original was plywood), but I kept the original neck (plays really nice), and had it tidied up. I've kept it passive (Fender SCN's), purely because the sound I can get through my Hartke set up is just outstanding, and I can always add the aphex bass xciter, or even go for the out board Sadowsky should I ever feel the need. It has the most amazing tone, very throaty, yet very full, very deep, yet crunchy, with that almost slightly out of phase sound that we've all come to love from the Jazz. I used the Fender HMV bridge and have gone thru body strung. I'm in Jazz heaven folks....while not the lovely Roscoe beck or the Jazz DLX FMT that I was gassing for, it looks and sounds so much better than I'd even I pictured it would be. Anyhoo, fingers are getting itchy again so must dash.
 8. Can only comment on my own amp mate, but it's near silent. I can only hear it when I stop playing and put my ear to the back of the amp.
 9.
Hmmm... I must admit that when I first tried out the compressor I did have it on 4-5/10, so maybe I was using too much? I've got a full band practice in a couple of weeks so I'll try just clicking it on at about 1-2/10 and report back if I've found new love for it.
It's unbelievably subtle mate, but it defo does something.
 10. God I would love this so much, but my work wouldn't allow 100% time commitment.....GGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 11. Top Marks my friend - sounds great!!!
 12.
And now it's mine and it's an awesome piece of kit.....cheers Chris! Minimal fettling needed to the eq, boost the tube a bit more than the solid state and it really punches through. I have the graphic on (nice lights) and just gave a little bit in the mids and a bit on the bass contour and all I needed was 2 on the master to get through git, keys, drums and vocs. It's amazing that Hartke made such a brilliant piece of kit and gave it the compressor from hell, still if I need to I'll get a pedal.
Well done mate. It's a wonderful bit of kit for the price. Gigged mine for the first time last Sat, and the amount of comments I got from the people in the room on how excellent the sound was, and on listening to the cam footage from the gig........how very right they were!!! (family and friends, most of which are super critical muso's, including 2 Uncles who are bassists). One thing though, I did have the same impression on the compressor being useless when I was playing in the house, but it really does work. It's very subtle, and from song to song is easily missed, but I started playing the gig without it, and turned it up to 3 mid way through the set. It seemed to ever so slightly balance out the attack on the strings (without affecting the tone). Like I say, very very subtle, but I somehow found myself not concentrating on my finger pressure as much. Great bit of kit.
 13. Hiya folks, Just a quickie for anyone just starting out slapping, popping etc.Check out a track called 'Delta Hurricane' by a Guy called Larry McCray (awesome blues guy). It has a very straight forward line, but the Bassist slaps, pulls and string mutes to rather nice effect, while keeping it very simple. There is nothing overly intricate to it at all, but will really help you along if you're after a good track to jam to and practise your slap playing. If you can get hold of the album (Delta Hurricane), there is another track called 'Blues in the City' which is a touch more advanced, but again, pretty straight forward.
 14.
I find that the built-in compressor is absolutely useless.
Its a fab amp, and I do agree with you on the compressor thing - can't really hear anything different when it's on, although I haven't been in gig mode yet. The Amp is an excellent match to the 2x12 Pro cab, loads of bottom end and nice clarity on the uppers...I LOVE IT!!!
 15. Best advice I can offer mate is to keep it simple. Forget about hundred mile an hour licks, fills and riffs for the time being - they will come with time, but don't forget....thats what the guy with the Strat is there for. For me, the Bassist is the foundation of the band and as The Funk says, is the one who ties everything together. Have a think about it, you're listening to a live band and; - The guitarist stops playing - not a great deal changes - The keyboard guy stops playing - not a great deal changes - The drummer stops playing - yes, you can't hear them, but the Bassist can still drive the song along and it will still sound 'full' - The Bassist stops playing - the sound will just die, sound very empty. Your job is to hold the bottom end down mate, keeping it rock solid and also, everyone else in check. Not sure what kind of stuff you're into, but good examples of these rock solid playing/Drum/Bass partnerships are from the likes of the Chilli peppers (Flea and Chad Smith), Rage against the machine (Tim commerford and Brad Wilk), Queen (John Deacon and Roger Taylor) and Bon Jovi up to 1994 (Jon Alec Such and Tico Torres). Also, might not be your cup of tea, but have a listen to Wet Wet Wet (tracks like Angel eyes, Sweet surrender and Wishing I was lucky). One of the finest Drummer and Bassist partnerships to grace modern music - they will help you a lot. There are thousands of examples for you to listen to which will help you understand what your role as the bassist is, and when this clicks (and it will), a better bassist you will be.
 16. Righto folks, The amp has arrived, and I'm in love. However, the original post was to understand whether or not I was getting the very latest Hartke (in the wood casing) or the previous rackmountable job. I've checked against the Hartke website again, and I'm positive the shop have made a boob, as this is what has arrived. It is identical in every way to the Hartke website pics of the HA3500a. Also, as it turns out, it was an ex display model, without box etc, hence ended up paying £260 all in (inc next day delivery). The very same amp is retailing at Sounds live etc for £430 so I reckon I've hit a winner
 17.
They still change hands (occasionally) for under £200 on Ebay. At this price they're an absolute bargain - one of the best amps ever made IMO. A
I've just received mine today.....OMG it's absolutely out of this world. I appreciate the Marmite taste that can be Hartke, but this amp is superb. Talk about tone shaping, what with the 10 band graphic, blendable valve and solid state, not to mention the contour control - it has totally blown me away. Oh...and now it is coupled with the 2x12 pro series cab, it looks fab....my life is now complete (that is until I stick the Mullard valve my Pops has just given me. Go for it mate, no sound is out of reach with this head.
 18.
Take a few days off - no playing, don't even look at the bass. Go see a good band. Pick up the guitar, play the keyboards. Dig out an old favourite record you haven't listened to for ages. Music has a great power to rekindle positive memories. this will inspire you.
+1. Give it a week mate, lock the bass away and forget about it. Towards the end of the week, take a few hours listening to all of the music that made you want to start playing in the first place....I'm sure your urge will return.
 19. Trace Elliots 715 served me very well for years mate, although they don't make them anymore. You should find one if you search hard enough. I've had mine for best part of 18 years and very nearly sold it on this very forum, only for me to withdraw it 2 days later. Great little amp.
 20.
I believe its the same except the 'a' model is in the sleeve and the non 'a' model has to be rack mounted. The 'a' model can still be removed and rack mounted provided you buy the rack ears. I had the HA5500 which is the higher powered version of this amp Have you seen the megathread on here about the LH500? more power and less fiddly buttons and stuff.
Now you see.....that's what I thought. After repeated calls to the guy at Great deals music, with me asking him to describe the HA 3500 that I'd be receiving, he has comfirmed that it's the model with the big white Hartke badge on the front in the centre, yet he also confirmed that it's definately not the HA3500a....I'm now massively confused. Either I've managed to get a bit of a bargain (a new 3500a for a lot less that most are retailing for), or the rackmountable transient attack model is going to turn up, and the guy told me a pack of BS (which will be returned under trade description act). I'll wait and see I've read the thread on the 500 mate, but I don't really need 500 watts, and if the newer 3500 does turn up, I'd have bagged a bargain. Will keep you informed.
 21. Hiya folks, I've decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new amp, and I've chosen the HA3500. However, a price search on the net has thrown up some questions. I've found the amp for £313 all in on the net (new, from Great Deal Music), but it is the model prior to the HA3500a. I'm looking for some info from you guys as to whether or not I should muster up the extra doe to get the latest model, or would it make more sense to get this one, and what would I miss out on. From the Hartke website, the only changes seem to be cosmetic, but this is my first foray into the head market, hence need your help. Main question is 'How different was the previous model to the latest one?'
 22. +1 on the You Tube stuff mate. There are loads of little clips detailing pretty much every aspect of the slap stylee.
 23.
I'm recommend OBBM from this very forum for your cables, good value too!
+1 for OBBM. Top guy, super quick delivery and high end cable - wouldn't go anywhere else mate
 24.
Hi all Secondly, is there a manual to download from anywhere for this particular model? I've found the other SM manuals on the Trace site, and I know they just about cover things, but is there one that covers the high frequency volume dial on the back etc??? Cheers all
Version 7210 HSM is characterized by the presence of the high-frequency mouthpiece, whose action is governed by the independent regulator. Both versions possess the output power of 200 W and have the tuned phase inverters. I took that from a russian website mate, hence the dodgy english, but I'm guessing it's a control for the Horn. In terms of age, I'm sure the series 6 stuff came out around 88, but I'm sure the SM stuff came out a touch later. In terms of identifying the exact year I can't help I'm afraid, but with hand written serial numbers it'll be wonderfully early.
 25.
This is a near-classic now. One day they'll be worth a fortune, a la original SVTs....
Totally agree....an awesome bit of kit and I'm amazed this hasn't gone, especially at this price. Had I not just bought a new cab I'd have snapped this gem up.
