1.
Aled jones was wicked i loved that snowman stuff,i never realised he played for hank and the guys though.
Lol, nice one.
2. I lied guys, I've 2 more...... Alan Jones - Played Bass with the Shadows in the 80's and also, John Farrah, again, playing with the shads. 2 awesome players.
3. I hope you guys are proud of yourselves!!!! I now need a new laptop as I've just spat a mouthful of tetley tea over mine!!! 'Looks like an early Eastern European fridge' 'Looks like a stormtrooper's portaloo' 'looks like a female dalek' Absolutely Hilarious.
4. Replacing Michael Rhodes with 'The Players (Brent Mason et al)'.....Damn, to be in the company of such an awesome group of Muso's.
5. Hi folks, Has anyone got a black or red Abalone scratchplate fitted to a P or J. I'd like to do something a little bit different from the Tort and pearl norms, with Abalone looking fave, but I'd like to see one on a guitar before I make the purchase.

+1 on the used Combo mate. Loads around, and you'll get something more than adequate for what you need. I've got a Trace Elliot 715 combo with 130 watts and I've never had it more than 2 thirds on the volume controls. It's played in 250 seat working mens clubs and 2000 capacity halls, never a problem.
7. Something else to contend is the introduction of a mic stand. I could play with my eyes shut and could sing no problem, but introduce a mic and a stand and I used to go to pieces. My brain just wouldn't let me do all 3 things, it was a total pain. I've found that the combination of ridiculous amount of practise (at a mic that doesnt need to be on), with a bass around my neck, continuous singing of the vocal (whenever I could, cars, work, bog, park, KFC....), and some simplification of the bass line when I was singing all really helped (once you get confident, the more complex lines and vocals will fall into place). I'm absolutely fine now, but you must train your brain to be able to accept multiple tasks. Thats very easy for me to say, but my 'singing-and-playing-at-the-same-time-without-cocking-my-bassline-or-singing-out-of-tune' prowess has really started to come alive over the last 6 months, so it can be done. Main thing though mate....RELAX.

Hello

Hiya mate, you'll love it on here. Loads of cracking info and some super peeps.
9. You go for it mate, well done and welcome.
10. Just got my HMV bridge this morning from Ray. Superb guy, and the quickest shipping in the world. Top man.
11. What a fab link mate. I've always loved his playing.
12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPAP073t2PM Great feel in the opening, nice slap stuff. Don't think the 'fone tone' does him justice, but nice nonetheless.
13. Guys, on the parking thing, I work for P&G, on the same road as the arts centre. Parking can be a bit of a beggar on weekends, so I'll suss out how far a walk it is (it'll be no more than 5 mins), and for those not wanting to leave vehicles on streets, I may be able to swing the use of the P&G car park (security on hand etc). If this would suit please let me know, and I'll see if the HR team are OK with it. I know it'd be a pain unloading gear, then moving the car, but I'm guessing it'd be a useful thing. Let me know folks
14.
THere seem to be many examples of people buying JV precision basses of similar vintage (and from Japan) cheaper here: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ision+Bass/10/1 Can't see a review section for JV series Jazz basses. Would they be very different in price?
I had the pleasure of playing a JV Jazz around 5 years ago (wasn't mine though) and it was sublime. I'm not 100% sure of the full story, but I believe that the JV series were being produced at a point in time when Fender USA weren't producing anything, hence the Japanese guys really went all out to show the world that they could match their USA counterparts. More gen'd up fellows on here may correct me as I heard this story a while ago, and it may have vital details missing, but I do know that the JV series guitars and basses are revered by top players, and again, the one I played was superb. PS, sorry to kind of move off the price subject guys.
15.
In amongst all the drivel that appears on this forum (including mine), that is a really excellent piece of advice.
I've played country for best part of 20 years my friend, and this an excellent piece of advice. If you can identify and fill the gaps that are being left by all of the of the other musicians and vocalists, you've nailed it. If you can find it, have a listen to Hal Ketchums 'Tonight we just might fall in love again'. The bassline is the epitomy of that philosophy, and I've seen the bass guy live (Keith Carper, a brilliant player of little reknown)...One of the best lessons I've had the pleasure of watching.
16.
Squier jazz bass for £1350?
I thought that would be about going rate for the wonderful JV series.
17.
Can't agree with that one at all, I'm afraid. Forget Root-fifth, that guy didn't even bother with fifths!
Thats your opinion my friend, you're more than entitled to it. I do reckon that Illsley and Terry Williams, as good as Knopfler is, were a huge factor behind the bands success. Their music required simplistic, driving rhythm, and together they kept it tight as a drum. Merely my opinion, but then I'm a huge fan of guys who are mostly anonymous with their playing, yet if you were to replace them with any other player, the band dies.
18. Last one from me, as there are so many, John Illsley - Dire Straits, One of the UK's finest and held an absolutely rock solid bottom end.
19. You guys must have known that March 1st was my Birthday...Top marks!!! Defo interested, but won't be able to confirm til nearer the time I'm afraid. Got no problem chipping the 'few quid' in either.
20. Hi there, from one Geordie to another.
21. I can't get Jason Mraz's latest album out of my car, some excellent tracks for us Bass folks to bash along to.
22. At the risk of being hated and shunned.......Graeme Clarke, Wet Wet Wet's bass player is hugely underated, I reckon anyway.
23.
......perhaps I'll find a Mark King fan here!!?
Would you be looking for cash only on these 2 mate, or are you interested in swap + cash?
24.
Slappers welcome especially old ones.
LOL, I'm only 33 mate, although these days thats probably ancient.
25. Hiya to all, I registered a week or so ago, and as I've already started posting, thought it fair to introduce myself. I've been playing for the best part of 20 years now, and absolutely love it. I cut my teeth playing in my parents country band, hence take influence from Michael Rhodes and the like. I'm a real big fan of the more progressive country artists though, think Rodney Crowells and Hal Ketchums. I must say though, I'll play anything, and have a knack of being able to play to suit the style, rather than just play something that fits, big difference I think. I'm very much a fan of Slap bass, in particular Marcus Miller, Mark King (of course) and the usual crowd. I'm currently stepping up my efforts to perfect my own slap/pull technique, so will hopefully nail it before I'm too old (hence the Jazz build coincidentally). In terms of gear, I'm extremely lucky to own a rather gorgeous early 70's P bass, and I'm in the process of using an old Columbus Jazz as a donor for a new build. I play through a rather lovely old Trace 715 combo, which sounds awesome when coupled with the Precision. Must say, this is an excellent website, and I have been made to feel very welcome with the few posts/comments I have made.
