This hits the nail squarely on the head for me. These were/are mass produced items designed to be created quickly and as efficiently as possible. The price of vintage gear is insane and I’m more than happy to let other people pay those prices 😂 On a serious note though, in a purely functional/quality way modern instruments (especially lower end models) are as good if not better than a lot of vintage gear. I’ve played a few older bases worth a fair bit and the prices they’re commanding don’t correlate to the quality of the instrument, but to the rarity or exclusivity factor. That’s what you’re paying for IMHO.

That whole setup (including the bass) looks like perfection to me 😍

They look great thanks for the heads up but I'm not into the satin finish unfortunately. -
Replacement Tuners for Squier Classic Vibe 60's P Bass?
Bassybert replied to ryanwoods1998's topic in Bass Guitars
Bit of a thread refresh this one, but did this ever get sorted, or does anyone know of some alternative replacement tuners for this bass, as I’ve got the same model and I’m looking to replace the stock tuners, preferably with a nickel finish. -
Such awful news, a fantastic guy that’ll be very much missed. RIP Nick ❤️

That's the one!!! Brilliant stuff thank you, I had a hunch it would be late 70s Japanese a la Aria, Westone etc. It looks like these were made by Matsumoku as well, they definitely have that classic look for that era. This place is a mine of information ☺️

I thought the same myself, an old Aria Cardinal or something but the body shape isn't quite right and the headstock has a slant to it whereas the Aria is straight. Also pretty sure Aria's have bolt on necks?

I love a bit of Michael Nau and was watching a live performance on the Red Bull website of all places and kept looking at the lovely bass the bassist was using. I've never seen one like this before and was wondering what sort of model it could be - Looks like it might be an older Japanese bass that might have been stripped? Looks neck through and has a piece of dowel in a different colour near the bridge from looking at it. Anyone have any ideas what it might be? If anyone's interested the video itself is at https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/videos/michael-nau-live-and-qa

Bought some Dunlop flats from Tom, great communication and arrived quickly. A top guy to deal with, and the flats are perfect for my precision, what's not to like ☺️

Is this your own design Luke?

Ha ha I've been using Herco Flex picks for years and always thought the number meant the thickness!

John bought my pedalboard, an absolute gent to deal with - quick payment and great communication 😊

Being a big fan of players like Stu Cook, John McVie, Duck Dunn and forum favourite Adam Clayton, I love simpler groove orientated lines locked in with a drummer. I’m also a big fan of players like David Wm Sims from the Jesus Lizard and Dave Allen from Gang of Four who play fairly complex lines sometimes and although i enjoy playing them I find it more taxing and somehow less enjoyable. That might be limitations of my ability though 😂

That old problem of missing notes when playing
Bassybert replied to FretsOnFire's topic in General Discussion
I'm a massive fan of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. A lot of the time they're on the edge, capable of falling apart at any moment but that's why it's so good. Live music is all about emotion and being in the moment. The person that notices a mistake the most is the player, then band members as they'll be used to how you play the song. Lastly it's the audience, and in my experience most of them wouldn't even know it's happened - They're largely paying attention to everyone BUT the bass player 😂 Just remember you're playing because you love it, you're not a professional, so stop putting too much pressure on yourself and enjoy the ride - We're all human, and humans make mistakes. Some of us make a lot and are fine with it, some of us like to think we don't make many/any, but still make a lot! -
All gone (Not sure how to close a thread in recycling so adding this message instead) I was given these valves years ago by a family member who did a lot of work on old valve gear - All were working at the time but I have no way of testing any of these. There's a couple of Mazda's and 7-8 Millard's. Located near Bridgwater, Somerset if you wanted to collect - If someone wants to pay postage I'm more than happy to pack and send as well. Thanks for looking, James
