What bass do you regret selling? Was it love?
Bassybert replied to vinorange's topic in General Discussion
I’ve tried. I sent emails to Big Leaves but never had a response. The bass player was called Kevin Tame I think but he left when the band broke up and the trail went cold. -

Sold my Fender MIJ 75 Jazz reissue, natural finish with a rosewood fingerboard back to Crane’s in Cardiff around 2001 as part ex on a guitar when I got heavily into Neil Young. It’s by far my biggest regret, the bass was a gift from my parents and I think about it quite often. I really wish I could get it back, I last heard it was bought by the bassist from the Welsh language band Big Leaves who I think later became Sybriddion but don’t know for sure. I still feel such a fool about it 😔 -
Trace Elliot gear always looks cool, it’s such a great look.

It always makes me laugh when people accuse companies like Fender of not pushing the boat out regarding colour choices or technology, when they probably wouldn’t buy one anyway. I’m pretty sure Fender, being the multi million pound business that it is, knows its demographic and that part of launching an upgraded range would be to look at sales figures for different colours across said demographic and offer something they know will sell. It’s a business after all, not a company driven by artistic freedom. On a side note I see they’ve changed made in Mexico to made in Ensenada which I’m pretty sure is in Mexico 😂. Looks like the marketing team are trying to disassociate the idea of a Mexican made bass being a negative thing and make it sound fancier?

Boney M?

Now that looks like the sort of rig I’d love to play. I can feel the trouser flapping from here!

Just about the perfect set then 😆

Am I correct in thinking the zero is pretty much a power amp and high/low pass filter for £1k??
-
That’s like comparing apples and oranges, the Sansamp is just a preamp/DI.
-
Getting that sound is the reason I use a Programmable Sansamp as my preamp, usually into the effects return of whatever amp I’m using. Coupled with a P bass it nails that lovely, fat but warm growl I love about Ampeg’s.

Played through a Genz Benz 610 for the first time at last night’s rehearsal. Both the Genz and the Peavey head are the studio’s and I ran my Sansamp straight into the input rather than the power amp in. Sounded monstrous 😍

That’s probably the best advice, he’s a nice guy to deal with and will certainly be able to tell you all you need to know. In ‘theory’ any 12ax7 should be fine, but there are numerous THD variations across brands and models that mean you’ll get varying results. Depends what sort of sound you’re looking to get. I’ve got an ABM and have had a couple different ones in the past, but I’ve never been blown away by the overdriven tube sound - if it’s warmth/fatness you want I think it’s great though.
-
Do you know what brand/model you currently have in there?
-
That’s great news to hear you’re ok Phil 😊

Sold a compressor pedal to Paddy. No problems at all, a super easy guy to deal with and great communication 😊
-
Jo bought my set of Labella Flats, super friendly with no problems at all. A great Basschatter to deal with 😊

I'm sure I've seen amps that have ability to have the effects loop pre or post DI. Maybe I'm remembering something that doesn't exist, it has been known 😂
-
According to the ABM manual... DIRECT INJECT (D.I.) - A balanced D.I. is provided on a latching XLR socket. This has a push button placed below it that allows the user to choose either a Pre E.Q. signal (button pushed IN) or a Post E.Q. Post Sub and effects signal (button OUT). Pretty sure from experience the valve drive is part of the preamp signal so would be included in the Pre signal. Can't find anything about the compressor position, but the sub and effects loop are definitely after the EQ, so won't be included in a DI signal if you're choosing the Pre option.
-
Agreed, if your bass tone is integral to the band’s sound and you’re sending a pre eq signal you’re at the complete mercy of the engineer to approximate the sound out front.

A good quality XLR cable is what you need. XLR cables are used for DI’s as they provide a balanced, low impedance signal the desk needs. You’ll need a female/male type. The length however depends how far away your amp is from the mixing desk or a DI box. A 20ft cable should be ok unless you’re playing at Wembley Stadium 😄
