  1. I'd say it was more the curse of the arrogant d!ck. I've done quite a few support slots and, yes, it is a given that you don't get much stage room or time for sound check time but this guy takes the gold for self-importance.
  2. Doesn't seem to - I just edited one of mine and it is still resolutely entrenched on page 5.
  3. Probably my favourite bassist to listen to or watch is Mark King. I can't honestly say he has influenced my playing because I don't have funky fingers, but I love to see him. Not the slap particualrly, although that is a given, but his effortless fingerstyle weaving around the tunes, usually while singing. Next two haven't been mentioned I don't think. Roger Glover. Fabulously melodic bass lines, especially in the context of the early Deep Purple stuff. Chris Glenn. I saw SAHB loads of times in the early/mid 70s and would say he is the bass player that has influenced me more than any others. Nothing complicated (though he has the chops) just laid back and enjoying himself.
  4. An update Courtesy of Jon @Bassassin I was able to fit a Schaller 460 bridge - absolute quality bit of kit that has really done the business. When I say 'I was able to fit' what I mean is the guy who does all my bits and bobs was able to fit. The Schaller didn't quite align with the mounting bolts, needing the old holes filling and new holes drilled, fitted with studs. Anyway, you'd never know he had done all that - Leighton Jeninngs is the guy and a complete wizard. Looks just the job, visually I'd say more in keeping than the Hipshot Supertone 2 point (which would have also required all the drilling and filling). More to the point it works!
  5. Can't you sell that bass and replace it with one with a neck you like? Seems such a shame to destroy that lovely flame.
  6. Whereas I welcome it. When someone dies they are dead. They have died. This recent trend to say 'passed' is, imo, just a pointless euphemism that is simply ducking what is perceived to be an uncomfortable issue. Yet it will happen to every single one of us. Seems daft to me.
  7. Aha! Could be where I have been going wrong all this time - I don't use them!
  8. I've no plans for any more basses or pedals but I am after a set of lightweight tuners so I won't put my name down. I could go through some convoluted justification for them as one of the existing ones is rather clunky but I think that would be pushing it. Failure isn't a word I would use, though.
  9. AFAIAA the case fits the EB-3L - ie the long scale EB-3 - as well as the EB-0 and the short scale EB-3 (and presumably the SG). There is a little vacant space at the head end of the case when used for the shorties but the body size and shape are, I believe, pretty much the same.
  10. Pretty sure the Epiphone case will fit the EB-3L, so any of the shorties should be fine. Somewhere online there will be internal dimensions.
  11. Excited that my lot (Toredown) are a part of this night - 3 great bands! Something to do on a Thursday night in February!!
  12. It is all very individual. I play with a pick for 90% of the time and use these Jim Dunlop jobbies. Can't get on with those big triangles.
  13. Love the look of these and often wondered what they are like. How much does it weigh, do you know? I'd say - it's your bass, do what you fancy. Personally I like black with no pickguard, but that's me. When the bug bites deeper for DC shorties, there's a couple of other basses that might appeal. There was a shorty Antoria LP DC that was made for a while, came in TV yellow to start with. They were only about £350 new and, as and twhen they pop up second hand, around £250. If you have a good back the Hondo H1015 was medium scale, sometimes with DiMarzio pup. Fabulous necks on these but also the much maligned 3-point bridge that, apparently, on this model had an inclination to bend. Heavy, though. Usually under £200 on eBay, I bought one for under £100 a while back. Another cheap shorty is this Encore, although if I saw one I'd probably fight you for it Got this one for under £100, weighs just 3kg.
  14. You'll be OK, a new keyboard doesn't count.
  15. When the time comes you'll be the first to know, Ben Currently having a Schaller 460 bridge fitted as the pointless bit of 2-point tin was doing my head in. I've never played a proper old EB. Maybe I should.
  16. I imagine getting a Wilma outfit in larger sizes might be a problem.
  17. At the moment I have a 2021 SG Standard and a 70s Eros EB-3 I'd say the same, I usually don't go anywhere near a bridge pickup, except I like to dial in a bit of the neck pickup to round it off a bit. But maybe that is because of the pickups - what would any of you shorty Gibson aficionados say was the difference between the early EB-3s and SG in terms of tone?
  18. I blame the NHS. Discharging folk before their medication has stabilised.
  19. Guarantee a drunk will still ask for Wonderwall.
