1. I am also curious about neck dive reported as the ones I have had have been so heavy in the body the neck balanced nicely. The later models of Thunder 1A (version 3!), which had a different Magnabass pickup as opposed to the split P type, were made of a different, lighter wood and, as a result, had some neck dive. The body was the same as the Thunder Jet, I believe, with which it also shared and extra 21st fret! T1Av3 had a different bridge, too. But all the earlier ones with the split P pup I've had (3 over the years) were heavy and nicely balanced. Either way, you should be able to pick up a nice Thunder 1A for around £150-180. At that price they are massively good value.
2.
I'd just colour the exposed area in with a black permanent marker so it doesn't catch the eye.
So would I. Or black nail varnish.
3. Popped up on eBay. Odd looking thing. I was in a band with a guitarist who had an Alvarez Dana Scoop guitar and he reckoned it was one of the best he had played (he had 30 or so, mostly Gibsons). So I guess this might be good? 4. I won't help either - Made In Japan, Deep Purple.
5. Basschat first - someone posting a picture of his 26.5" Johnson
6.
... Might be easier to just buy s replacement pup cover for a few quid.
This. Then you can swap about to your hearts content until you decide.
7. Start bid £280. Not currently in the market for one but these are the mutts. 10.
I know several players using Skoda Yeti's. A ton of room in them.
I have one - fantastic thing. Built like a tank, lovely to drive, surprisingly good on fuel, quite roomy - but not as roomy as a lot of cheaper cars, say Berlingo/Kangoo/Partner, and I think for the OP price was a big thing. One thing - nothing to do with load space - the Yeti will go up and down my steep road whether or not it is covered in frost, ice or snow. My old Berlingo went down sideways and that is where it stayed until it thawed!
11. I had a Citroen Berlingo for a few years. Incredibly practical, humongous payload space. Seats fold flat in 2 seconds, out in 20. Level push in, massive inside because of the ridiculously high roof - looks like an ice cream van. I once took me, drummer, guitarist and all our gear to a gig in it. On the downside it imploded after 60,000 miles but I think I was unlucky - you see plenty of old ones around. Plus of course they are incredibly ugly.
12. Are you wiping or spraying, Andy?
13.
'Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood' Now that's a good tune.
Robben Ford covers this beautifully, if you haven't heard it - lovely bass! ... http://youtu.be/6VsY_h7CBbY
14. I think what Rich is asking, and certainly I am having trouble seeing the answer in your post, is if you have two sets of pickups and only one volume control and no pickup selector, how do you change between pickups?
15. So it was YOU heckling the other night!
16. If I played in your band, Pete, I'd feel motivated to keep on getting out of bed... 'The ELO Experience' for anyone who doesn't know, and they are fantastic! I saw you again at the Cliff's Pavilion this year, btw! I am 59, had my first gig at 50 and am loving every minute of it.
17. Colour me, and my tad heavy Yamaha BB425, interested.....
18. I think that is fantastic! Absolutely love the shape.
19. Worth a look at Trace Elliot gear as well. You could get a 300W combo that would serve for any gig you are likely to want to do and have serious change out of your budget or a fridge-freezer sized stack of separates. As long as you don't mind the weight, anyway. Edit - decent bass case = Hiscox.
20. They pretty much are - also could be considered variants of the B2 series. B bass bridge is different, pickups vary according to the model but, essentially, they are same meat different gravy. That is what interests me!
21. Early days, plus both my bands seem to have gone into hibernation since I bought it, but so far, so good. At home it sounds really nice - slightly different to the class Ds I have tried before (which is a lot!). I gigged it once with my rock covers band and it coasted along. As well as sounding great it is also extremely small and extremely loud - ticks all my boxes for a rehearsal/gig back up head, I think. But I need to live with it for a while longer to be sure.
22. I have two Trace Elliot AH-300-SMX heads - one spare in the event that #1 has to go into hospital. I have a Quilter Bass Block that I intend to use for rehearsals and to gigs as a back up. It is the best small amp I have tried. I have an ancient dusty old Peavey TKO-80 in my 'office' that I use for home practice and that my cats use as a scratching post. Not turned up very loud. Two Barefaced Supercompacts One Barefaced 110 for quieter rehearsals and possibly smaller gigs. What I don't have any more is GAS for anything else, remarkably.
23.
This can only mean one thing. The plans for your bumping-off are all in place and she now feels released from all need to care what happens to you. Either that or she's just really nice. Well, what do you think?
I think she is just really nice. Lucky me for the last 32 years!
24. My wife doesn't care if I buy a new bass, to the point that if I say I am selling one shes always asks 'Are you sure? You know you will regret it'.
