That's for the vid - gives a great impression of what these are like. I am currently returning several times a day to a for sale ad in the classifieds - a '73 EB-0 that has the pup more centrally placed. Looks like one of these would do exactly the same job but a couple of hundred quid cheaper. Plus I prefer the looks of the LP Junior to the sharper horns of the SG. Also some pretty funky mid-century furniture there? The side table and armchair. Are they old ones?

I'm hoping to go so look forward to that.

I have much respect for him. Not only as a player but as a human being. He was very shabbily treated by EVH in so many respects but never gets into any tit for tat slagging - I've watched interviews where he is being pushed for detail about how he felt about reading he'd been sacked etc but he steadfastly refuses to bite. EVH even went as far as saying that he sang MA's vocal part on the records and taught him how to play the bass - no reaction from MA.

Can I pick you for my team, please? And @Bassassin ? Between the two of you I reckon most stuff is covered. I know bugger all about basses (apart from how to lose money buying and selling) but make a nice cup of tea and can keep score well.

I've never really hankered after a Ric. Quite like how they look but never played one. I had a Jolana Ric-a-like for a while but it went back to a very happy previous owner. Last week I saw the acid jazz band Corduroy at Chinnerys in Southend and Richard Searle was using one - when I've seen them before he was using a Les Paul bass - and it sounded absolutely fantastic, exactly like a Ric should. It has got me more curious now.

Have to say there was something special about David Coverdale's voice back then when he stayed in the lower registers more often, had his old nose and tilted his head back like an elephant seal. The way he sang 'Mistreated' still sends shivers down my spine.

I saw them around this time at the Kursaal in Southend when the album 'Burn' came out. One of the best gigs I've ever seen to this day. A naked woman appeared on stage seemingly from nowhere and jumped on Ritchie, who promptly unslung his guitar and played it on her backside

Plastic. Edit - well the screw and nut it threads into for the side clamp are metal but the rest is plastic.

I use the Hercules one that has dual fixings to either clamp into the side of a mic stand or onto the top of one if you aren't using a mic. Fits a range of sizes.

Here's 3 I like. Possibly a bit mainstream compared to the other suggestions, but fit the brief IMO Steve Lukather's cover of Hendrix's 'Freedom' Lenny Kravitz's 'Always On The Run' And the rather similar 'Be Mine' by Kenny Wayne Shepherd

There is no definitive answer as everyone likes something different. I like Dunlop nylon 1mm, some people hate them. Buy and try as many as you can until you find the one that feels right for you. Its cheaper than finding the right strings, anyway.

The soft spot is actually more like quicksand Difficult to disagree. The only thing I would add is you won't find a very light Yamaha BB, which are always going to be around 9lbs +/- but you will find a light precision - sometimes 8lbs or thereabouts. I have tried a few from a BB414 to a BB5000 and, much as I like them, they are just that little bit too heavy for me across the board. MIJ Precision would be my choice for a lighter weight P bass.
