Until,Bassplayers accept the extra strings..to further the range of Bass guitar, theres only so much capable with 20 frets and 4 strings, tuned to 4ths, sans a band around you, there are acceptions to the rule..Colin Hodgkinson being the best of the best, and its not all tapola either.... There IS so much capable upon our instrument,so few are trying to push its boundaries...we are still in a wierd place where to have more strings STILL causes some to get all hot under the collar.... Thing is,as you have pointed out,bar kudos and ego flattery...it dosent pay very well.
24 frets required on any bass I play.

    Cables
Contentious... Let's just stick to the fact that the OP wanted opinions on interconnect cables!
Well, I was just suggesting a way to fix the problem
  3. I would go for the SWR, seeing as it's the best (in your opinion), and it is going to be cheapest now after Xmas.
  4.
i consider myslef to be a fairly solid player, which is good enough for me, although i've been told on various occasions that i'm quite a busy bass player, don't know if thats a compliment or not
Good to other bassists, bad to your guitarists.
  5.
Hi there all, The name's Chi and i'm a bassplayer with less money than I'd like! I use a MIM Fender P-bass Special (J neck and J bridge pickup), a "customised" Epiphone Thunderbird (Wired in a pickup selector and kill switch... for no reason than sh*ts and giggles). I also use an old 80's Westone Thunder 1-A... 18\/olt act. circuit... nice old and loud. I run an old 72 (I'm told) Ampeg S\/T-\/R Blueline and an 810 cab. I'm "keeping it warm" for a bloke who after two years wants it back! The cheek! Haha. So now i need to bolster my solid-state rig with a tube preamp cause i can't go on without that tube tone! So if anyone can help me out or know of a tube pre going beggin, hit me up! Solid state rig is all PEA\/EY... 700W head, 2 115 cabs and (soon to be) 2 410 cabs All E/H effects, Big Muff, Bass synth and small stone. So thats me, cheap and cheerful, more \/olume than talent. How goes it Basschat minions?
Christ, I'm still using a crappy little 15w and a beginner bass!
  6.
It's slightly difficult for me to gauge where I am at with my current band, don't get me wrong I love what we play but it's not really my style of bass playing. I am getting another band together and I have stuff recorded which is more about what I do. The stuff I play in Veils is pretty tricky as it is, for the most part, following what is pretty fast, technical riffing so it isn't easy stuff to play so I guess I am a reasonably good bassist, but not as good as I should be....... ......if someone can listen to my band and tell me how I might be able to do something a bit different with my bands music please tell me
You are good, you play how I want to, but I'm too slow. Do you use fingers or pick?
  7. Not as good as I want to be. I think once I learn how to do 16th notes at a fast tempo I'll be pretty much sorted. That's all I want to learn. Also to be able to do guitary speed solo type stuff would be cool.
  8. Expression pedals let you do much more with effects. They can be a sweep control for anything that sounds sweepy- like a wah or (I think) a phaser or chorus or similar.
  9. I went into town yesterday, was in SoundsLive and played the only 5er in shop- a Spector Euro 5. I'm in love. It felt beautiful (assuaged any doubts I ever had about 5ers), it sounded beautiful, it looked fantastic. I'm obsessed now. Any downsides though? (Apart from the £500 price tag, of course)
  10. I'm not, but am a user of Ultimate Guitar. It's pretty good, disregarding the fact that most of them are Americans. deleriumbassist is a laugh though.
  11. Bongos-too weird, and P Basses-too boring. I am a man of no compromise. Oddly, I like the BC Rich Warbeast but dislike the rear horns on the Warlock. But the funny thing is, the Warbeast is just a Warlock with Beast front horns. So I have double standards!

    Rock clip
http://www.frozencloudmusic.com/~chrishisc...Rock%20Clip.mp3 or see attached.
Cool, that's really good. How do you record?
  13. My technique is noticeably balls. My right hand just isn't disciplined enough (four fingers and I play metal!). My left hand can keep up with anything I care to put my (rubbish) right hand to very easily, so isn't challenged. So until my right hand improves I try to make a 2nd-12th fret stretch comfortable... Going well so far! Any good finger exercises for four fingers? (By the way, I use my little finger not my thumb. Anyone else?)
  14.
Yeah, by that time most strings will be dead sounding and also feel awful b/c of corrosion.
I like my strings dead. Flatwounds for my new strings?
  15.
Ive got a micro korg and a yamaha piano which we (teh band) are toying with using live, howvere im the only one who an play the half decently. What we have thought about doing is recording teh bits we want and triggering them using a sampler or similar means... but ideally dont wanna spend mega money to do this. What are our best options ladies and gents? We are not planning on running a laptop at the moment for a few reasons so want whatever medium we use to actually just turn up, play when triggred and stop when triggered, ideally by foot control. Cheers Dan
I would go for MIDI of some description if I was you. Or a keyboard player, who could work the keyboards into your other songs.
  16. Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) is a win, purely cos Cliff is so awesome. Plus he's dead (EDIT: Like half the rest of the list, discount that), so he gets more respect.
  17. I saw this video on YouTube, and this guy, a guitar repairman, said that to clean frets you can rub them down with steel wool. Is this feasible in real life? He did tell you how to protect the fingerboard wood as well (sellotape- will this damage the wood?). So I was wondering if those techniques will work with A: Bass B: Someone incompetent at tying his shoes, never mind bass maintenance. ??? Thanks for help.
  18.
Knights Of Cydonia fixed! I think these files are from Guitar Hero or something, so on Hysteria, the bass and synth are tracked together.
Doesn't the guy use a fuzz pedal so it will sound kinda synthy.
  19.
i cant stand metallica
BURN THE HERETIC!!!
  20. I have a 4 but I'm looking to play a 5. I play metal and rock, so the low B would really help. I was also considering a 5er in F#BEAD, as I think a 6-string is a little too much... Meh, I may change my opinion.
  21. Me next please? I am looking into 5-stringers recently so this would be good.
  22.
Hey all, As the title suggests can anyone recommend any bass music that would sound good on an amped acoustic bass? something that can be played solo with no other instruments and isnt to hard (i am still a newbie) Theres a local acoustic night and I fancied trying to play something but really dont know what. Any suggestions/links to tabs etc highly apreciated!! Thanks all. Edd
Solo type thing? John Myung's Solar Groove is pretty cool.
  23.
hard to tell, no info on the site. http://www.tanglewoodguitars.co.uk/product...amp;view=search Looks nice enough though, for a starter bass. Passive P / J, rosewood FB, body... synthetic? I cant imagine they would contour the body like that if it was wood. Very cheap (sub £120 apparently).
Aye, it's a really nice bass for <£120. It came with a (crappy) amp as well.
  24. I like the idea but am too poor to experiment.
