1. Just a beginner bass? That ought to meet his petty demands...
2. I love 5ers but only play a 4 to my regret.
3.
try playing the song while say, watching tv. Learn how to play the song without having to concentrate that much. Thats how i learned. I had to sing death metal and play bass too. That was pretty difficult but after pushing myself i got somewhere
I do that- though death is pushing it a bit. I find it really hard to focus on the correct vocal method (so my vocal chords don't die) and play at the same time. I also get the most complicated line in the whole band! (but I play guitar that song)
4. Machine Head not so much- but Adam Duce is a great bassist, but never gets enough credit really. He does backing vocals as well! What a guy...
5. Beyond the Grave- BTGAndy's band!
6.
A friend of mine called 'Blaine' pointed me to this forum and in two days I've gotten a little bit hooked so I figured it might be ok to introduce myself. I'm Stuart Dahlquist and I've been playing the bass guitar nearly 30 years. No thats not true... it has been thirty years as of this year. In 84 I went to Musicians Institute and lasted about four months before dropping out; couldn't stand it. So outside of that brief dabbling with the academic side of things its been a constant slogging of self taughtedness. I have a band called 'Asva' and have been involved with a bunch of other stuff in the past: Sunn, Goatsnake, Burning Witch + loads of funk and even a little gospel experience. I like to read books, drink coffee, look at porn, look at my wife, look at porn with my wife and smoke cigarettes in the wee hours of the morning. Currently I have a sore throat and am thinking I'd better do something about it before Asva leaves on tour. I like Acoustic 360-361's, play a 72 Fender Telecaster bass, what's left of a Gibson RD Artist, and a 1981ish (what ever the first year was) G&L L1000 that has three volume knobs and looks like your average topless dancers new acrylic nails. They are all strung 145, 110, 85, 70. Blaine mentioned a 175 being available and thats how I got here. f***ing 175. Jesus.
Morning. Welcome. I reckon we need some of your wildness in this very dignified forum.
7. Me-bass+backing vox Janne Warman- keys Matt Heafy- guitar+backing vox Robb Flynn- guitar+backing vox Chris Adler- drums Phil Labonte- lead vox+ backing keys
8.
Fab. * be warned, if this turns out to be a Warwick Vampyre style rip off, I'll be posting a harshly-worded thread.
I'll be careful.
9.
Yes please. What are you offering exactly?
The entire Slayer collection, autographed by Tom Araya and Kerry King, for free...
10. Cool. I'm indecisive about stickers and stuff... Slayer anyone?
11. Spector? I saw a new Legend 5 Classic for around £600 (is this normal?), but it would be well worth it. In a 5 minute play, I fell in love totally.
12. My bass. It was sub £100 but it still plays amazingly. Going to put it in B soon when I get round to servicing it.
13.
What a totally fantastic getsure and great idea. I would love to join the party and will send a PM as soon as I have finished typing this. Next question - what sticker? All we need is someone to do the same with a fretless .....
Yeah! We need one of every strange bass variant! I reckon we need communal: Fretlesses Shortscales in 4,5 and 6 variants. Who's with me?
14. Steve Harris! Triplet legend!
15. *drools*
16. All this is complicated for me! I have my EQ flat but use the tone pot on my bass to sharpen the tone a little. It also enunciates the low notes when I drop tune (which I do frequently). I don't really like being just rumble, though I can see how that would be more helpful. When I get round to recording, I'll try a really bassy sound and then a clearer one and decide which one mixes best with the guitars.
17. I use my drummer's house but then my band is quite economically small. And they probably wouldn't take us seriously. And I can't afford £8/hr let alone £9 or £10...
18.
Im still trying to get my chord playing together on the ERB,to at least give some depth ,rather than root 5th octave type playing..Right hand technique is often lacking (once again Im trying all 5 didgets on my hand ala Spanish acoustic players)...I watch keys and acoustic players alot more now.
Jesus, I though I was alone using my little finger!
19.
Until,Bassplayers accept the extra strings..to further the range of Bass guitar, theres only so much capable with 20 frets and 4 strings, tuned to 4ths, sans a band around you, there are acceptions to the rule..Colin Hodgkinson being the best of the best, and its not all tapola either.... There IS so much capable upon our instrument,so few are trying to push its boundaries...we are still in a wierd place where to have more strings STILL causes some to get all hot under the collar.... Thing is,as you have pointed out,bar kudos and ego flattery...it dosent pay very well.
24 frets required on any bass I play.

Cables
Contentious... Let's just stick to the fact that the OP wanted opinions on interconnect cables!
Well, I was just suggesting a way to fix the problem
21. I would go for the SWR, seeing as it's the best (in your opinion), and it is going to be cheapest now after Xmas.
22.
i consider myslef to be a fairly solid player, which is good enough for me, although i've been told on various occasions that i'm quite a busy bass player, don't know if thats a compliment or not
Good to other bassists, bad to your guitarists.
23.
Hi there all, The name's Chi and i'm a bassplayer with less money than I'd like! I use a MIM Fender P-bass Special (J neck and J bridge pickup), a "customised" Epiphone Thunderbird (Wired in a pickup selector and kill switch... for no reason than sh*ts and giggles). I also use an old 80's Westone Thunder 1-A... 18\/olt act. circuit... nice old and loud. I run an old 72 (I'm told) Ampeg S\/T-\/R Blueline and an 810 cab. I'm "keeping it warm" for a bloke who after two years wants it back! The cheek! Haha. So now i need to bolster my solid-state rig with a tube preamp cause i can't go on without that tube tone! So if anyone can help me out or know of a tube pre going beggin, hit me up! Solid state rig is all PEA\/EY... 700W head, 2 115 cabs and (soon to be) 2 410 cabs All E/H effects, Big Muff, Bass synth and small stone. So thats me, cheap and cheerful, more \/olume than talent. How goes it Basschat minions?
Christ, I'm still using a crappy little 15w and a beginner bass!
24.
It's slightly difficult for me to gauge where I am at with my current band, don't get me wrong I love what we play but it's not really my style of bass playing. I am getting another band together and I have stuff recorded which is more about what I do. The stuff I play in Veils is pretty tricky as it is, for the most part, following what is pretty fast, technical riffing so it isn't easy stuff to play so I guess I am a reasonably good bassist, but not as good as I should be....... ......if someone can listen to my band and tell me how I might be able to do something a bit different with my bands music please tell me
You are good, you play how I want to, but I'm too slow. Do you use fingers or pick?
25. Not as good as I want to be. I think once I learn how to do 16th notes at a fast tempo I'll be pretty much sorted. That's all I want to learn. Also to be able to do guitary speed solo type stuff would be cool.
