2. With 1 more string, it'd be nearly perfect. I have so much want for a BB.
 3.
I once played a didgeridoo set at a pub in York on Australia Day. As I was getting a drink after the set, a lady asked whether my circular breathing technique could be employed in a bedroom context!
I can just imagine a didgeridoo set... "Thank you very much, that was an original tune called 'Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom'. Ok, i'd like to slow it down a bit now, here's one you might recognise, it's called 'Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom'... Two three four..."
 4. Is it terribly wrong that I actually quite like it..? The concept is kinda cool, even if the neck leaves a little to be desired.
 5.
Our old drummer was once approached by a middle aged lady in the break who proudly said:- "I have the nipples of a 14 year old!" She then proceeded to show him. What was really funny was just how shocked the drummer was afterwards, especially considering he was a tattooist and piercer and had pretty much 'seen it all.'
I have the body of a 20 year old. I keep it in the freezer.
 6. To be honest I have no idea, I haven't bothered offering the others up because a} the stock ones sound ok and b} I found a wire had come off one of the Schallers thus rendering it (temporarily at least) useless. Pic as promised. Poor quality, sorry, but you get the idea. Done now except for the planned DIY Sadowsk-ish active EQ. Original alongside for comparison. 7. I take back my comment re: price. Compared to this (as flagged by gelfin), the Ashdown box is an absurd bargain.
 8. Interesting product, massively overpriced IMO. However...
Just imagine how expensive it would be if it was sporting an apple logo
I shudder to think. And people would be falling over themselves to buy it too And it'd be white.
 9.
You are coming across as being very defensive & seemingly trying to have an argument when there is nothing to argue about - I think they're fine for the money & you think they're fine for the money, I wouldn't buy one because they don't offer what I want/need but that's not something you need to worry about - I can just make do with what I've got (for now).
I certainly don't want to argue, there are enough barneys going on on the forum already I'm just trying in my own clumsy way to point out that a low price does not automatically mean that an instrument will have dodgy frets, crap glued-together body wood, sloppy hardware, bad tone and so on. My HB might be a 'deko' cheapy, but in terms of the above factors it is of a better quality than some instruments I've seen costing 7,8,9 times as much. So I suppose I am maybe being a tad defensive yes but I think it's a point worth making.
 10. Yes I am happy with it. I'm sorry yours wasn't so good. I'm assuming you must have had one, given all the things that you know are wrong with them (dodgy frets, crap glued-together body wood, sloppy hardware, bad tone etc)..?
 11.
That does look cool. From the little info I could find the fella went on RicResource with " Hi I'm a small Nashville guitar company and here's my new bass " Then was crushed by the PTB. The prototype might have sold on ebay or the listing got tugged. Bloody shame. I understand JH being on the ball regards trademarks, he has to be to keep them, but in this case don't see the infringements. If there had been an action raised Waterstone probably would have won but didn't have the money to defend themselves. Big business wins again.
So JH is quite happy to flatten a small company for the tiniest of resemblances, but won't take on a big outfit like Thomann with the clout they would undoubtedly have. What a big brave man he is.
 12. I have had problems in both wrists. Cortisone injections in both, it worked in the left but not the right, so I elected to have the surgery on the right and have not looked back since. Sorted it 100%. If the problem returns in the left I will not hesitate to get it hacked about. Yes it's several weeks of inaction but frankly that's a small price to pay. YMMV, of course.
I've got a 12 rotary switch that actually started the idea of even more clipping options for me. But it's quite big and I really don't think there is space in the box for it. I had to practically sit on it like it was an over stuffed suitcase to get it closed last time. I really need to sort the wiring properly, it looks like the back of a telephone exchange from the fifties at the moment.
A 12 way switch..?? Blimey, that'd give you enough bells and whistles to let you ring and blow all day
 14. Any mod plans? I'd bang a J bridge pickup in there if it was mine. Still a great score as it is though. Well played! EDIT: if you felt adventurous, there's probably enough room there for a 'Ray pup...
 15.
whilst you could probably make some changes to turn it into a playable bass, you'd may as well have bought a proper bass in the first place.
Define "proper bass"..? Suffice it to say that I don't recognise any of the negative qualities you listed in my instrument.
 16.
There are a couple of things to point out with the mixers you are looking at - when you say 10 or 12 channel, be aware that some of those are stereo channels. And you don't sound like you're using a big stereo keys set up on your gigs. So, as it sounds like you'll be using the channels in mono on a gig, the 10 channel mixer effectively becomes a 7 channel, and the 12 becomes an 8 channel. The Macke is only 8 mono channels. Something like this http://www.dv247.com...nterface--71180 will give you 10 mono channels at a decent price. I would say you should always get a mixer with a mid EQ on each channel, not just bass & treble. The mids are where the nice (and nasty) sounds are and you need control of them. Sweepable mids are even better, ie a parametric. You don't need loads of effects either, reverb and delay will be fine. The more aux sends you want (for monitors) the bigger the desk you'll need. Most smaller desks will have 1 aux only. It's usually the cheaper mixers that have knobs instead of faders, and no mid control. Same as everything really, you get what you pay for at the end of the day.
I agree with all the above. Behringer might have a bad/cheap rep in places but their mixers are very good. We have used one live for ages.
 17. That Just For Men stuff is pretty good for facial hair and gives good results, however it keeps on working for a while even after you wash it off. So don't leave it on for longer than 2 or 3 mins or it goes really really dark and can look very silly. Yes, this is the voice of experience
 18.
Maybe one of the rules should have been the winner does not take part in the following months competition to give others a chance?
This is a good idea, and similar to many magazine competitions.
it's a bass players forum, not a recording forum.
And there I was thinking it was a forum for musicians who happened to be bassists.
 19.
I don't believe it - this bass is still around, at this price Someone's going to get a real bargain
I have to agree. HUGE amount of bass for the money.
 20.
I might just stick it on here in the Recycled section
Neck now up for grabs. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254590-harley-benton-jb-20-deko-bass-neck/
 21. As per this thread, up for grabs is the original neck from my JB20 jazz-alike ‘deko’ bass (see pic below). It’s got a bit of a funny bend to it so I’ve found it difficult to get the action down as far as I’d like. Consequently it’s no good to me, and it’s too big to be an effective paperweight. Free of charge, all I ask in return is that at some point you make a five quid donation to a charity of your choice (although if you could make it an alzheimer’s/dementia one, I’d appreciate it). Don’t worry about proving it, I trust you Please note that it's the neck only that's on offer, not the whole bass
 22. I might just stick it on here in the Recycled section
 23. After much mucking about, I decided I couldn't live with the higher-than-I-would-like action so I've fitted my spare neck to my JB20. Alas, my nice big Wilko tuners are too big for the smaller headstock, but I've had the previously slack Harley tuner apart and managed to get it working properly. The black pickguard and ashtray are in place, and so is the black control plate I mentioned in #6 above. If I say so myself, it looks the dog's parts and through headphones it sounds killer, even with the stock pickups. OK so it's a bit "Trigger's broom" with all the replacement bits, but apart from the neck it's just cosmetic preference, and the neck is just me being picky. It was workable as it was, and I already had the parts to hand so it still doesn't owe me anything apart from the original purchase price. Pics coming.
 24. Likewise. Deluxe cardboard box for mine too, mind you for 38 quid delivered I wasn't exactly expecting any frills
