How important is the band name for you?
leschirons replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Usually, anything humorous name-wise, puts me off immediately. I've turned down joining bands due to them having a jokey name. Yes, I am a grumpy old b*****d -
Just in case you missed this on Facebook

Have you ever looked the part of a rock star etc?

Were you a welder at the time?😂 -

I would've agreed had it not been for the giraffe print giant table cloth behind him. -
I'm reporting this post to the mods for unacceptable language. Surely "H** J**" should really not be mentioned in a jam night thread. In France, this appears to be the only f*****g song from the f*****g western world that 100% of french f*****g guitarists insist on f*****g playing at every jam night. Although I'm not bitter about it😂

In the very early seventies, I had the look. Lots of hair, 27" waist and sprayed on pants ( as in trousers, not Y-fronts) I auditioned for T-Rex (drums) and got a second audition. Unbeknown to me, and all of us at the auditions, Bill had already been approached and had already recorded a few tracks. Anyway, obviously, I didn't get the job. My then wife to be however, still maintains to this day that I lost out because I was too good looking for Marc Bolan to have on stage with him. Well that's her story and I'm making sure she's sticking to it 😂 Probably did me a favour really as I suppose he could've offered me a lift home at some point. -
How many songs can you play? (Without help/ music/ tabs)
leschirons replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
Let's face it, there's also thousands of numbers that people could play straight off having never played them before. If you're of a certain age and have grown up listening to, and playing music and someone asks you to play for example, Wild thing or With or without you for the first time, chances are you'll be able to do it just by having heard them over the years. -

I've been in covers bands for 50 years and could probably play 90% of the numbers I've played over that period. I put 200+ in the poll however, you wouldn't want to bet on me remembering the first vocal line of any song I'm singing, or why I've walked upstairs 😂 -
Highs and lows. Last night we played at Printemps Bourges. (Pub gig) It's a whole week of music in and around the centre of the town and maybe 150 bands will play over the week. The Rag'n' bone man gig was part of that. Kicked off first set at 10.30pm to six people. Roadie then links up a spare tatty active monitor and sticks it on the pavement. By the second number, it's packed, and kept it packed until end of last set, 1.50am. However, the encores lasted until 3.10am. and there is the low. Great to be appreciated, not great to get in at 5.30am.

Yet another ruined gig due to the mix.
leschirons replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
No, not a turquoise jazz. Same bassist though. Pretty sure he's a great player if he's got that gig but I had no way of telling. 😂. I was central to the stage and maybe 40ft back. I'd guess the venue to be about 4,000 to 5,000 At least they had the forsight to screen the drums. When we first got to the venue area, the support had started. We could hear what constituted the bass and kick from six streets away. -
Are there any sound engineers out there that actually know what a band should sound like? I've just experienced a bass drum that can be heard on Jupiter and a bass frequency that makes the audience feel sick? What is it with this "how loud and low can you go?" Just got back from seeing Walk off the Earth and Rag'n'bone man. Two great bands, but a complete waste of time. WOTE, couldn't hear even one of any of the other instruments on stage. They may as well have been miming. All down to the bass drum. Rag'n'bone man, drums under control but the bass (a four string) sounded like it had only one string, a low F#. Couldn't clearly discern one note.

Can I suggest one of these? Really cheap. In fact, they're free.

Singer advert I've never seen before.

Mostly wrong? Sometimes wrong? Rarely wrong? What on Earth does that mean.? Surely, someone either takes the view it's wrong, or not wrong. Are there extenuating circumstances we don't know about? -

Too true, I was thinking exactly the same thing just the other night when there was a BBC news report on homophobia where CCTV footage depicted a 20 year old smash a glass in to someone's face because he was holding hands with his partner. Oh wait a minute, I was thinking the exact opposite, that we now have a completely new generation of intolerant homophobic and racist biggots that apparently have no boundaries when it comes to inflicting violence on others. As far as I'm concened, my generation is not the problem. -
I'd wholeheartedly agree (with Dad) Awful cymbals ruin any kit. That's not to say though thall all cheap cymbals sound terrible. You can occasionally pick up a cheapo that really is nice. I have an 18" Paiste crash/ride (absolutely terrible) but as it stood me in nothing, I gave it the ozone trash treatment. Sounds fabulous and have even turned down a couple of offers on it so don't throw anything away😂
-
Ha ha, don't it just, and I'm still looking for a decent 12" wood snare. However, it's really great when you get your kit sounding and playing exactly how you want. Pity our drummer hasn't done the same😂

Drum GAS. It's an addictive mine field 😂 I bought a cheap Pearl Export from a BC member. £125 I seem to remember inc some useable cymbals. However, a double DW5000, two K custom crashes, a full set of Remos and a Turkish ride and pair of Turkish hats later.....be very careful my friend, it's worse than basses😂

Itried out a friends EBS classic session a little while ago. Well impressed for about 30 watts. Really lovely sound,, light and easy to manage. Think they do a 60watt too but sounds like the 30 would do you. Think he paid about £150 new so who knows secondhand, maybe £100?

Here's the new 16mm assembly. A real pleasure to play now.

Tomorrow, I'll be picking up my Status Energy 5 string from my luthier. I bought it as it weighed 8lbs but ended up not using it due to string spacing. Just had a set of the individual bridge pieces fitted. Placed in contact with each other, gives me 16mm spacing. Cheaper than buying another bass.

Good post. I recently had a similar experience and with Mark bass head too only I, hooked it up to a battered £40 Laney Richter cab and it's probably the nicest sound I've had. I've used Eden, Genz Benz, Mark bass and Trace and although maybe my taste has changed, I love this current set up. Problem is, a couple of years ago I changed to all lightweight gear and now it's all just sitting there in the studio.

No, not Dad, they're all trying to find me. I owe them all 20€.😂
