  1. Its morning and I've almost drunk my first coffee of the day so on reflection my post was a bit harsh and probably didn't read the way I meant it. The footage would probably help as well and it is aimed at pre-teens and their parents not at jaded old cynics. Just seems a bit thin, forced and clunky, I'm sure It'll do well, especially if someone grabs it by the throat and gives it a good rearrangement and a bit of ooomph.
  2. Mainly works due a lack of snowflakes, along with light modding and really nice knowledgeable helpful people, but I've only been on here a month or so.
  3. Way beyond middle age, starting to fall to bits now. Booked in for knee scans on Thursday just taken a couple of co-codomol to see me through a uke group session.
  4. Purely out of curiosity I looked it up on youtwat I'm obviously in the minority. Yuck a manky old lump of supermarket own brand cheddar
  5. Welcome from a fellow newb trying to find his feet. So far I've chickened out of a jam (I got there and found I'd left my wallet in the house) and am working towards an open mic with another musician who DOES know what he's doing. I'm at the stage where I switch from being excited and panic. I know that if I want to progress I need to get out and stop playing with myself in the dark but getting my act together and doing it ......anyway the pub with the open mic & jams has had a fire so I've got an excuse for now.
  6. Ahh Totness, the centre of the universe allegedly erm nope. I'm in the Galloway hills (turn left at Gretna.......) Used to look after cattle and sheep which are alleged to cause heart attacks, they do, along with fractures, missing digits and depression but only while the b@strds are alive.
  7. oh and I started making a powder to add to sandwiches &etc which you'd think would be pretty vile but it's great lightly sprinkled on steaks, chicken breasts and things equal parts ground turmeric, anti inflamatory ground black pepper, helps the body absorb the turmeric quicker ground ginger good for the circulation especially in the legs ground dried garlic, great all round digestive and circulatory properties and mild antibiotic
  8. +1 for Turmeric 1/4 teaspoon twice a day or a or capsules from the like of Holland and Barret If like me your on an acid pump inhibitor (Lanzoprazol, Ranitidene etc) they inhibit the body's ability to take up magnesium so taking a mag supplement might help Vit D, this time of year I reckon is a good idea unless you work outside Finally keep your hands warm (gloves?) and warm up exercises at the start of a session and yeah I've been getting pain in my right hand after longer practice sessions recently - bass (finger picking) the middle of the back of my hand; uke/guitar (mostly strumming chords) the outside of the back of my hand.
  9. Duly liked. Not usually my kinda thing but it brought a smile even before my second coffee on a Sunday morning
  10. That bass line reminds me a bit of Shakatak and Swing out Sister
  11. WOW!! if I wasn't already playing bass and already discovered the joys of fretless that would do it. That bass playing was an absolute to listen to.
  12. jeebus! think they need more fibre in their diets
  13. All my gear apart from the Ibanez and a cheap amp, was bought this year. Only really started my GAS in February Best; one off variant of an Excelsior bass Uke which has really got me into fretless, love playing it, downside was/is finding strings that come anywhere near doing it justice (are you listening Aquila/Worth et al). Worst; Aquila white and red strings for bass Uke, if I wanted a sound like that I'd just start putting a coarse saw through some cheap Larch 2x4s 🙄 Some will be moved on as I focus down on what I want to play, hoped for addition 2020 Fretlless electric, probably Ibanez SR???, maybe electric fretless baritone Uke if I can find one I like
  14. An ex mate pulling you proverbial? Taking it seriously for the briefest of moments (ex scuba instructor hat on) it would have to be acoustic, it wouldn't do the instrument any good and sound travels faster through water, could be interesting but I'd draw the line at going anywhere near f'k'n Manchester so reckon you made the right decision.
  15. well that's at least the first 90 minutes covered😄
  16. Seem to keep listening through the whole back catalogue of covers by Foxes and Fossils
  17. hehe thanks guys you've just expanded my playlist exponentially in spite of listening them on youtwat and discarding a few and looking up the tabs. Can't believe how many really simple but effective bass lines there are out there, keep em coming.
  18. To me it depends on a whole range of things but there's very few songs where the lyrics are consistently good all the way through and some are better without the lyrics - Cavatina, Highland Cathedral, beautiful music before some tw@t tries to put lyrics to them. Others lyrics obviously the result of smoking something illegal and I'm putting the disjointed lyrics of 'Ride On' down to a bad batch of poteen, Bowie just jotted down odd lyrics then stuck them together. For some it seems to be a case of seeing how many song cliches they fit in one after the other Lyrics can help to set the song/mood 'I was lying in a burned out basement with the full moon in my eyes....' , 'Left a good job in the city...' , 'Sittin in the mornin sun, I'll be sittin when the evenin' comes.......', ' Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell....'. Personally I lean towards ballady type songs that tell a story. So yeah I listen to lyrics but I'd rather they just played the music than have to put up with the warbler spouting a load of blx. Just STFU!
  19. Reckon if you find a band with the same outlook as yourself go for it if it floats your boat. I've just turned 62 and learning some stuff towards open mic. Also learning about my own likes/dislikes some of which have come as a bit of a surprise. I expect to be safe enough to be let out in public sometime next year. I put in at least an hour a day but at the moment I'm confined to the house with a seriously fecked knee, so the basses are getting serious abuse. Waiting for an appointment to get it scanned and hopefully sorted.
  20. Have lost myself down YouTube rabbit hole, probably not a popular choice on here but Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer......
  21. WOW you could scrub the everything else and I'd be happy just listening to that bass track
  22. Superstrings CD, Seven Mondays. Far from my usual taste but interesting and definitely worth listening to, Trevor Britton on DB. The David Soothill original 'Raffles' lightened my Friday morning mood
  23. At the moment Its my Excelsior, fretless, bass uke. unlike me it has exceeded all expectations now I've found decent string. Fire it through a cube street, which in itself is much fun and a huge leap from the amps that I originally got with the other instruments and I can almost make something resembling a bassline. I've found the secret with the rubber/polymer strings, other than using Aquila Thunderblacks, is baby talc on your fingers, stops them sounding like you're sawing timber.
