  1. Surprised myself, not something I'd normally listen to but enjoyed it all the same. Not sure if having to learn stuff I've never heard of has broadened my horizons or bludgeoned my musical taste into oblivion, but yeah ๐Ÿ‘.
  2. Although HR bods will correct me if I'm wrong on this but I'm pretty sure organisations of over a certain size have by law to advertise vacancies even if they already have an internal candidate in place. Yeah it really sucks and wastes everyones' time but it makes Gov't employment figures look better vis a vis unemployed/vacancy numbers. Lies, damned lies and statistics ๐Ÿ™„
  3. No way I was clicking on the Cilla one, managed 40secs on the other one simply because I was distracted by the decolletage until my ears started bleeding.
  4. Feck, 2 of the worst earworms you B'strds.
  5. If its like kiln dried timber in other industries, yeah it gets the stuff to market quicker but it's durability is compromised, sometimes seriously but too far down the line to bother the original processor or manufacturer. I'd rather have something made from timber that was laid up and allowed to season naturally and yes I know it takes years. I know that at my price bracket I'm not going to get it but if I was going to fork out multiple Ks for a premium bass that's what I'd be expecting.
  6. Just had my first ever practice yesterday mainly, sorting out shortlist of numbers, who'd sing which and how we'd tackle them, plan is weekly sessions working on our own parts in between. I'd never heard of two of the numbers until a week ago and one is pretty obscure but I've the bones of a bassline worked out, needs work but quite interesting.
  7. I still consider myself a noob and what I'm finding is my taste/style/whatever is evolving, though still pretty eclectic. I'd start off with something like a Squier and add to the collection from there cos 1 is most definitely not enough. Let your music point you to your next purchase. I've got 3 totally different kinds of bases and have promised myself a fetless electric next year sometime. A clip on tuner is very handy. Finally we can say whatever we like but you're the one who is going to live with it and hopefully play it for hours, so in the end its what appeals to you. I find instruments usually jump out at me, so happy new bass hunting and ENJOY
  8. I must've used the wrong imoje, couldn't find a What The Feck! one ๐Ÿ˜€. Interesting looking instrument though
  9. Electro U-bass would go well, Kala, Pono......small rooms /practice go acoustic, or plug it in, fire it through pedals.....๐Ÿ˜€ I've got a fretlss Excelsior (made in Hampshire) sweet to play and sounds great through an amp. Good strings are a real pain to find, Aquila Blacks are the best I've found so far but give them a good dust with baby talc before fitting and they start to improve with age. Think it must be something to do with the compound or the extrusion process but Ubass 'E' strings tend to really bloody suck.
  10. As others have said its about deciding what you want to get out of it how much you're prepared to put in and finding a teacher you gel with, everyone is different. Some folk think they just need to turn up to their weekly/monthly lesson and somehow the teacher will magic them into a decent player, doesn't work like that, you get out what you put in. When I have a scooby what direction I want to go I'll probably get some lessons too๐Ÿ™„
  11. Thanks, I ended up transcribing PEF from songster, seem to 3 or 4 bass tab versions going around mostly depends where you want to play it on the neck. If I'm resorting to a mix of watching that guy and listening to the original track and tweaking it a bit ๐Ÿ˜œ Been on Lanzoprazole for a while, might have to up the dose. Lost a bit off the top and bottom of my vocal range but reckon if I can get my throat sorted and some exercises I should get it back
  12. Finally making progress, almost got Peaceful Easy Feeling under my fingers, 'If' for final song. Other guy is happier on uke than guitar so looks like I'll be using the bass uke (probably plugged in), first joint practice next Tuesday and looking through some more numbers. Downside is I need a scope down my throat to see what the problem round the larynx is so may have to give vocals a miss for now.
  13. Tried a couple of eqs out the other day, very impressed with one of them, can't remember the make .
  14. Holy thread resurrection Batman Thinking of adding a pickup to my Taylor mini Bass to increase my options. I get the idea I want to be looking at magnetic but struggling to find one for a bass. Any suggestions welcome.
  15. Music is a matter of personal taste, I like stuff from pretty much any genre but rap is spelled with a capital C
  16. Not exactly your run of the mill basses, they're recover them intact.
  17. Thanks everyone, had quite a lot of it covered but there's a few items/ideas I'd never thought of. Think I'll keep an eye open for a multi-pocketed wheelie bag/trolley thing. The requirements for spare bass's of is course a real hardship ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  18. the R 20 32 I get but C = lithium? it's symbol is Li
  19. Thanks there are a few things already that I hadn't thought about and a couple I had to google ๐Ÿ™„ 2032, for tuner and Uke Bass (takes 2) I suppose it's a case of covering everything but in the most compact way. Hadn't come across Vocalzones before, will immediately go and bulk buy if our local chemists stock them, as I know I'm going to be doing some of the vocals. No f'kin way I'm biking round here unless it's got an engine๐Ÿ˜€ If it wasn't the other end of the country I'd be joining them
  20. Following on from the Lesson Learned thread, what back-up kit/spares would you suggest to a total noob, even down to cable ties and gaffer tape ...... I'm thinking spare Bass, strings leads, amp, 9v and 2032 batteries, I'd rather learn from your experiences than mine๐Ÿ˜
  21. Always knew I needed at least 1 more bass, thanks for the justification. Hmm, not even near being in a band yet but thinking I might have to hang onto my van instead of swapping for a car.
