How good a player do we want to be? If bass playing is more than a hobby then the 10k is a meaningful concept.

I thought it was an interesting video. Duck Dunn was the main influence on my early bass playing. He always had a bass line powerful enough to turn goat p!ss into gasoline.

Generalizations are never accurate. When I was younger I was a lot better at some aspects of playing bass, but I know I do a lot of bass stuff better now. At the start energy, determination and keenness got me a long way. Now experience and common sense covers a lot of ground.

I play with a band that uses this between the audience and band. . . . sometimes it works!!

I had a Vox bass amp which went up in smoke when I was at school, but since then I have never seen or heard of a cab catching fire.

I'd insist on a barrier of some description separating the audience from the band. If anyone was "drunkenly trying to get on stage" I'd be stopping the show, telling them all to stay back and not restarting until they complied.

Yesterday I was playing in a marquee in a field and in the interval a member of the audience came up and complimented me on the bass sound. It's always nice to have confirmation that what you intended was actually being heard by the audience.

These guys sound like a bunch of amateurs. I doubt they will become any more professional in their attitudes, so you are probably well out of it. The biggest "up yours" you can do now is to find a better band.

OK. I've also been outvoted and played numbers I'd rather not play, but they went down well with the audience, and the band played them well, so I have no problem with any song in those circumstances.

I don't understand how anyone can be playing in bands for any length of time and have no tinnitus at all. Rick Beato's "complete silence" is something I've not experienced for more than 30 years. I also don't get the "intermittent" bit. That's no tinnitus I've ever heard of. I wish I'd discovered ACS moulded ear plugs 20 years earlier!!

If anyone doesn't like the material, all they have to do is say no. IMO that's a great list. Designed to do a good job. The dispiriting thing is when players accept the gig and they don't play the songs well or with no enthusiasm.

There are a lot of people who can't install strap locks then, and it seems to affect Schaller users the most!

I bought the first TTD album after hearing Cass in the Bass Centre, only to find he's only on 1 or 2 songs and not really featured. Don't know if he was on any other TTD albums.

Hi Nik, adding an 8 ohm cab to your 4 ohm cab would need 2.67 ohms from your amps, so that's good. The power would be split 66% to the 15 and 33% to the new cab. I'd check with Vanderkley, they could advise if their 210's are designed to work with their 15's. I believe their 112's and 210's were designed that way.

I'm not really a fan of Skunk Anansie, but about 30 years ago I was looking around the Bass Centre and Cass Lewis was trying out the new TE gear that had just come in. I was blown away by his playing. I'd never heard someone that good. I managed to overrun my lunch hour by an hour just listening to him playing.

My gig of choice would have been either Duck Dunn at Stax and with the MG's or John McVie with Fleetwood Mac.

Just think of songs that people already know, can dance to, sing along to and will make them happy.

Our guitarist had the same thing happen (the strap lock came apart in the middle of a song) 3 gigs in a row. He was using Schallers!! Use anything, even a mile of gaffer tape, just beware of Schaller strap locks.

Unfortunately the majority don't always get what they voted for. Clinton got 2.8 million more votes than Trump. Fewer people voted for Brexit than didn't vote for it, if you include all the people who didn't vote at all. And Tony Blair got a very low vote count for his third term. Our FPTP system doesn't give the majority what they want at all.

I've recorded Paul McC's set but not listened to it yet. This house has been a Glasto free zone so far. But off to Ronnies tomorrow to see Jon Cleary. Really looking forwards to that.
