I've just been looking at your pedals on instagram; that is quite a collection, or perhaps was. I see you have been flogging a few to fund an upcoming wedding. I've been a bit of a Jam pedals fanboy in the past, mainly because of their appearance, I will admit. Hand painted pedals! With some of yours though, I couldn't bear to put velcro on the bottom of them.

I'm not as long into the bass journey as many of you here, however, I have tried quite a few different strings. I seem to be settling on D'Addario NYXLs, which sound good as soon as they are on and last quite a while. I have just put a set of Rotosound Nexus black coated strings on a P bass and they sound really nice, however, after playing about four or five songs with a pick I checked to see if any of the coating had come off and, unfortunately, a tiny bit had come off. I'm guessing that after several weeks of serious use the coating where I pick would be a bit worse for wear. I'm not sure if that would make a big difference to the sound.

I've got the Jam pedals Ripply Fall Bass, which is a Chorus/vibrato/phaser in one. They also do the same without the phaser, called the 'waterfall Bass'. Both are currently available at thomann. https://www.thomann.de/gb/jam_pedals_effects_for_bass.html The Ripply Fall is the only Bass chorus pedal I've ever owned so I'm not sure how it shapes up against others. I mainly use the chorus to thicken up my tone, when needed.

Possibly but this is a guitar pedal, not necessarily tuned for bass and even though its cheap, I don't want to throw a small amount of money away on something that might not be any better than what I already have. As well as the sound, the other thing that impresses about the Motorbass video reviews is the fact that the volume isn't affected by the drive knob.

We cover Ace of Spades and we have been struggling to really get the Motorhead sound across; we haven't got a wall of Marshalls after all. I have been using distortion and a bit of chorus and the sound is good, though not quite 'Motorhead'. I would like to buy one of these but it might have to wait until Christmas, we have a bit of new mortgage pain coming.

As @admiralchew mentioned above, Jam pedals has three drive pedals, which have two gain level foot switches. The Lucy Dreamer (a tube screamer). The Rattler (a Rat) and the Red Muck (Muff). You don't get two flavours as such, just more gain with the second switch engaged. I've not tried them but Genzler sell a couple of pedals with several different flavours of either overdrive or distortion, depending on which pedal you buy. One was on sale here but just went. Bassdirect have new ones.

You won't find more versatile pre amps than the John East stuff. Adjustable mids, bright switch, passive override, with a tone control; I've not seen better. The downside is that they are quite gainy and even with the internal trim dial wound fully anti clockwise the gain is very high. I often have to switch my Charvels to passive when gigging, particularly when using pedals.

Those are some nice basses! Colour wise, that Blue Ray and fireglo Ric are really nice. None of my collection are as expensive as yours. My dearest bass was £899. Though I put John East pre amps in my £699 Charvels , so I suppose they count as being my dearest. G&L do a purple Wunkay, Andertons had one on a deal a few years ago, and I was tempted but ultimately, it was snapped up by another Basschat member.

@Thump Having visited both Guitarguitar and Merchant City Music I can assure you that between the two shops, there are a lot of basses in your price range. I walked away with a Reverend but there are plenty of others to choose from. I was quite taken by a sparkly blue Ray 34 in Guitarguitar but the Reverend Mercalli 4 in green would probably get my money if I was to go up again to buy something.

VAT can be a bit of a killer. If you sell on to Guitarguitar or the like they won't give you so much as they have to add on 20%VAT when they sell them. The Bass Gallery in N. London has sold a couple basses for me. They put them on Reverb and take a 15% cut of the price. I assume the 15% is the only bit their accountants have to consider for tax purposes.

I had to look up 'pantones' But yes, 1867 different colours, that's more basses than even Geddy Lee has. My missus draws the line at 10 basses and so do I. I practise most days and gig, roughly twice a month so I do get to use these but some gather more dust than others. Any new basses will have to have an appropriate colour, look good, feel good to play and I'll have to keep a one in one out policy. I'm temporarily bass gas free but lets see how long that lasts.

I am an electrician, working in London. Several of my customers are musicians; I normally spot that pretty quickly when going through their house and start up a conversation about music. Most are employees of orchestras but I've met the odd bassist. One of my old customers, whose rental properties I work on, needed me to fix a fault at her home. I walked in to find a Ricky 4001 perched up against the kitchen cabinets. It was her husband's and they had no idea I played bass.

Sort of. I like shiny bright coloured basses. When the collection got to 10 following the purchase of the gold/yellow/cream Reverend, I realised I nearly had a rainbow of basses, so I arranged them in colour frequency order in my rack. Anyone else got some bright and shiny basses to show off?

Yes, he makes quite a lot of extremely functional devices. I've been tempted by either the micro or nanapara EQpedals.

I'm very happy with mine. Ordered off Ebay, arrived a day later! Just what I wanted: an HPF in pedal format with decent cut (I wanted more than 12db) and a variable frequency cut off. I have a micro thumpinator, which is quite a bit dearer and has much less functionality (but apparently is a 36db cut off). Mine doesn't work, so I'm not a fan, though I haven't heard anyone else complaining of faulty microthumpinators, so I'll give SFX sound the benefit of the doubt.

This is how Mr Rafferty describes his product: The HPF Pre-2 is a very handy utility tool, predominantly for Bassists. This little box is a preamp with controls including an adjustable high pass filter, independent volume control, and a phase switch. This box is a great tool for some sound related issues bass players can experience using amps or PA systems, by tuning out subharmonic thump and wool, and focusing sound in general. It has a filter cutoff adjustable from 35hz to 150hz, and runs using a standard 9v centre tip negative supply. I haven't used this, apart from seeing whether it worked or not. I took it to a gig in the summer, wrapping it in that stuff you see under cutlery trays to stop them sliding about-I use the stuff between head and cabinet. Unfortunately, the weather was so hot, it got stuck to the HPF in places, see photos. Apart from that, this is how I received it from Mr Rafferty. I live in Barnet, close to High Barnet tube, or just south of where the A1 meets the M25, in case anyone wants to come and pick it up.- 1 reply

For sale is my Genzler re/Q pedal. It has adjustable high pass and low pass filters, and a 5 band EQ. The filters and EQ can be engaged together or separately via two independent foot switches. There is also an overall output knob. The pedal is in perfect condition and comes with the box, candy etc. No velcro on this one. I live in Barnet, close to High Barnet tube and not far from where the A1 meets the M25, if you want to pick it up in person. -

So its this time of year again! No gigs booked for Nov 11th so I'll turn up. I think I'll bring my Reverend Decision P, Gallien-Krueger Fusion S 1200 and Barefaced Midget. It will be nice to see some faces from last year.

I've got several heads that have an Aux in and a headphone input, so, on those occasions I can't make any noise at all, I just plug my iPad and headphones into those. I bought a bass on a short break in Scotland recently. I practised at night in my hotel room with a GK Legacy/iPad/headphones. The GK Legacy has been my main gigging amp this year.
