  1. the trouble with music lessons at school was that we did songs that I had no interest in at all on an instrument (the recorder) that I had no interest in, now if we'd been learning Beatles songs it could have been different
  2. forgive my ignorance but what does BBOT stand for? presumable not baked beans on toast 😂
  3. I thought SMX referred to the preamp not the power amp, my SMX AH200 has a heatsink
  4. yes it's a cracking song but looking into it further I don't think it's the Only Ones, I think it's a band called The Songs (crap name eh?) and the title is Us, the Only Ones, can't find any info on them at all apart from this guy has posted some other stuff by them, none of it as good as that one though https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClHoSwApI5_nC3yvafbUylQ I've got about 6000 songs some are obscure good ones, but not as obscure as that 😄
  5. heat sink models don't suck all the dust and fluff into the amp
  6. of course it's obvious now, cheers, John Peel announced it as the Song Us, the only ones I completely misunderstood it doh!
  7. I was trying to edit it, here it is again, I've got it as us, the only ones the band name being Songs, but that doesn't seem right Not sure how to upload it so it plays from the post Songs - Us, The Only Ones.mp3
  8. came across this song on some recordings of radio programmes I've got, love it, but the title and the band name doesn't seem right, anybody help me out? Songs - Us, The Only Ones.mp3
  9. not sure it's complaining, more of a discussion about personnel preferences really, fan noise has never bothered me, it's got to be bloody loud before it can be heard while I'm playing, but there is a chance the fan could stop during a gig and then the amp will overheat
  10. which is why I'm ok with the singer leaving setting up/ tearing down the PA to me and the drummer while he handles the 'networking' , he loves it though, like all good frontmen he likes all the attention
  11. I don't think my Fender Rumble 500 had a fan, if it did it was noiseless
  12. I've got a couple of Trace Elliot's both with heat sinks, some models have fans, prefer the heat sinks, no noise and less to go wrong, and bizarrely, they seem to weigh less
  13. I think you were probably comparing apples and oranges, if you'd compared Clapton to McCartney then fair enough
  14. I may have answered that in the previous post
  15. you ought to do a cover of (insert name of a song here)
  16. with loads of bands the sum of the parts is far more then the value of the individual members, I agree that Macca has achieved very little since the 70's and Lennon and Harrison's solo work was patchy at best ( Ringo has done ok for someone who couldn't really sing or write songs 😊), in that respect they are like Clapton
  17. the Beatles aren't like Clapton at all, they broke up at the end of the 60's, who knows what they would have achieved if they'd stayed together?
  18. I've had enough of Silly Love Songs, just a shame he doesn't follow his own advice
  19. my Trace has a clipping warning light, with a passive P the gain is on full and it still doesn't come on, they advise having the gain as high as you can, personally I like a bit of dirt so it suits me, if you like a clean sound use the gain as the volume control with master on full, there's no right and wrong way.
  20. and zero feedback
  21. i had similar issues, you can adjust the audacity latency, google it
  22. well it sounds like you are going to have to breathe for the rest of the band, they don't seem that bothered, or they don't like your songs but are too nice to say anything, maybe you need a heart to heart gloves off conversation with them
  23. as others have alluded too, my take is you need to send out completed songs and not so many of them, just complete 2 or 3 of the best ones and then send them out, and give everybody chance to learn them before the next rehearsal (you may then get suggestions for improving them), the singer sounds like he hasn't got the creative ability to create lyrics or a melody line, it does happen, Fergal Sharkey never had anything to do with the Undertones songs
  24. I'm not sure keys have different characteristics, but they can certainly alter the feel of the song, we've dropped some songs because we had to change the key so much for the singer to be able to sing them they just didn't sound right, but that's more to do with the singers vocal range than the change of key, bit like Led Zep songs don't sound right if sung by somebody with a baritone range
  25. it's a tough call, you don't really get to know what they're like for a while, our last guitarist seemed a great bloke, to start with, turned he'd got mental health issues and went into fits of depression when we had a less than perfect gig
