1. funnily enough the band I play with is learning Barb Wire Love, who the hell mixed that, it's completely gutless, trying to figure out what the bass players doing is a bit tricky when you can't hear him, I think he's just running up and down some of the major scale notes, no wonder there's no tab for it
2.
(smart ass answer is) Get some flats and you'll never have to worry/bother with all that
or Elixir nanowebs, cost more but last ages and ages
3. yeah, you have to take them off your bass before you boil them there's several topics about this, I've tried it but it's a lot of hassle and the strings go off again PDQ, oh, and use a pan with a lid, it's not very pleasant getting whipped across the face with a red hot bass string, believe me
4.
I'm glad I'm not alone. I think I'll try a different email and see if that helps.
Didn't help me, still no notifications, this is also covered in another thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/69373-e-mail-notifications-not-working/
5. just bought 2 par 64 LED's from Thomanns, about £95 for the 2, used them this weekend, just set them on sound to light and away you go, we didn't opt for the T bar with 4 lights because of the space problem in small pub gigs, we can mount these on top of the PA speakers if we want or put them on the floor. We might get 2 more now we've tried them out
6. saw them at this years Brearded Theory festival, best band of the weekend, should have headlined, it all went a bit flat when the Waterboys came on
7.
not at all, which thread?
It's ok, just found it, thanks for the credit BTW, our drummer told it me, he would wouldn't he?
8. mind you come to think of it I do a bass solo in the Hives Hate to Say I Told You So, but I just do what I do in the rest of the song but on my own, does that count? or even make sense?
9.
The electric bass is not a solo instrument, IMHO (puts on crash helmet and gets in cupboard under stairs).
+1, and neither is a drum kit
10.
Hope you don't mind, I've copied that and pasted it in another thread :-)
not at all, which thread?
11.
Not sure if this helps but I discovered yesterday that my message notifications had been re-classified as spam by GMail. I marked a couple 'not spam' and it's been fine since then
I've checked the spam folder, there's nothing in there
12. of course, this opens another can of worms, how many of these live albums are actually totally live? not many I suspect
13. I run a MB4210 with a 1 x 15 extension cab, great sounding amp and LOUD, never have it anywhere near full power, a word of caution though, quality control is not the best, or wasn't, so it might be a good idea to buy locally, you might have to take it back.
14. Glad you included the PS, The Ramones - It's Alive there has been something similar recently http://basschat.co.uk/topic/157507-when-a-live-version-is-better-than-the-recording/page__fromsearch__1
15. done that, still no notifications
16.
I once played an entire song a semi tone flat just to prove a point - that everyone else was far too loud for a rehearsal. At the end they all looked really pleased with themselves and decided to move on as we had nailed that one. I asked if they thought I should play flat for the gig as well and just got a load of blank looks. I really did wonder why I was there sometimes but they did say on a few occasions that I wasn't that they had noticed a difference.
I once played an entire song a semitone flat once, and I didn't notice, did worry me a bit till the guitarist also said he was in the wrong (right) key too
17. Good God, I hate bass solo's even more now, which reminds me of a joke. Guy taking a taxi from the airport on holiday hears some drums in the hills and asks the driver what they are, he replies "when drums stop, very bad". He hears the drums all holiday and every time he asks someone about it he gets the same reply. On his way back to the airport he gets the same taxi driver and says, "look I know if the drums stop it's really bad, but what exactly happens" the taxi driver replies "the Bass solo starts" Mind you, I hate drum solo's as well, so I'm not going there for my holidays
18. no I don't get any either, tried all the things suggested
19.
- When I saw the title of your thread I got a bit excited that the above had actually happened! Damn you!
fixed, I might even get more replies now
20.
- When I saw the title of your thread I got a bit excited that the above had actually happened! Damn you!
sorry, guess it was misleading,
21.
Well it`s unlikely to be me, though not for the want of trying Every time I try and get my fellow band-mates to larn this, they conveniently "forget". I mean, a Christmas song by Thin Lizzy & The Sex Pistols, does it get any better? http://youtu.be/5Q1mKdd4_uU
me and my band did that one year, good fun, we usually do Gary Glitters Another Rock and Roll Christmas these days
22. guess not , huh
23. like I said, plenty of people will disagree, all I know is I've bought basses that I thought were fine at first but later decided they weren't for me, and I've never been comfortable trying out basses in shops, always found it intimidating.
24.
Trying them out in a shop is really important if you ask me.How else will you know how a particular bass feels? I pretty much know what I'm going to get tonally with any Fender, but they all feel different to me. Go try out loads-it doesn't matter if it's US,Mexican,Japanese,Chinese or Squier, try them all and go for the one that you like the most. Don't discount the secondhand Market either. I generally favour Jazz Basses over Precisions-although I own 3 of each.
fair enough, there is the feel, I've never had trouble getting on with any basses I've owned, J or P necks but I've got quite big hands, it's always been the sound that matters to me, which I think you can't tell about till you've lived with it for a while and had a few band practices, so buying second hand is a good idea, if you don't like it chances are you'll get most or even more of your money back. Being cack handed I suppose I've been forced down that route, finding shops with any selection of lefties is practcally impossible
25. going to the shop to try them out is a waste of time IMHO, as soon as you play in a band situation everything changes, it's how a bass sits in the mix that counts, if you play in a band with just one guitar I'd go for a P, it's got a fat tone and fills the sound out better, but plenty of people will disagree I imagine
