Good God, I hate bass solo's even more now, which reminds me of a joke. Guy taking a taxi from the airport on holiday hears some drums in the hills and asks the driver what they are, he replies "when drums stop, very bad". He hears the drums all holiday and every time he asks someone about it he gets the same reply. On his way back to the airport he gets the same taxi driver and says, "look I know if the drums stop it's really bad, but what exactly happens" the taxi driver replies "the Bass solo starts" Mind you, I hate drum solo's as well, so I'm not going there for my holidays

like I said, plenty of people will disagree, all I know is I've bought basses that I thought were fine at first but later decided they weren't for me, and I've never been comfortable trying out basses in shops, always found it intimidating.

[/quote] fair enough, there is the feel, I've never had trouble getting on with any basses I've owned, J or P necks but I've got quite big hands, it's always been the sound that matters to me, which I think you can't tell about till you've lived with it for a while and had a few band practices, so buying second hand is a good idea, if you don't like it chances are you'll get most or even more of your money back. Being cack handed I suppose I've been forced down that route, finding shops with any selection of lefties is practcally impossible

going to the shop to try them out is a waste of time IMHO, as soon as you play in a band situation everything changes, it's how a bass sits in the mix that counts, if you play in a band with just one guitar I'd go for a P, it's got a fat tone and fills the sound out better, but plenty of people will disagree I imagine

I use nail varnish but wonder why the hell the manufacturers don't make them clearer, yes you fender, with a rose wood neck it's nearly impossible to see them in anything other than bright sunlight

anybody know why Fender make left handed Mexican Jazzes by the truckload but no P's?

I've got a MB4210 which I use with a 1x15 extension cab (not a marshall) and agree with comments made on here, great value for money, very loud good sounding amps with build quality issues, mine had faults when I first bought it, Marshall gave me a replacement which also had a broken spade terminal on the speaker wire, but since then I have not had any trouble at all in about 50, 2 hour gigs.

my battered Hondo professional II, first bass I had, bought it for £40 off a mate and it don't sound half bad, I use it as back up now for my MIA P bass (never needed it yet but you never know), it's got sentimental value and as above, it's worth f*ck all
