  1. Thanks - what a great tone! You're right - very individual sounding!
  2. Good to know who not to use! Just to be clear, I need a UK customs agent because the shipping agent in the US is asking for one.
  3. I mean like this - nothing to do with the mandolorian! http://www.rycooder.nl/pages/bluestar.html
  4. I'm getting a bequest shipped to me from the US, mainly instruments (mando-blaster anyone?!) and I've been asked to provide a customs agent as the post-brexit customs landscape is unclear to the shipping agent there (I am not making a political point here!). Any one got any recomendations? Most of my web searches are turning up more manufacturing or import/export people. Cheers,
  5. I really like the 'without', clear would be cool too. The perloid makes me queasy. I don't think you can go wrong with white though.
  6. Cool! Given the pickup position and everything I would have thought so too. I'd love to hear a sound clip!
  7. Nice combination of pickup and wood - what's the pickup?
  8. I know this isn't really a very useful suggestion but: https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/blast-cult-hollow-vee-gold-top Hollow V? The only person I can imagine even being able to get away with it would be Dusty Hill, but he's pretty commited to those slab side custom '54 tele basses. I bet they sound and play awesome - I played another blastcult - a medium scale made of oak and loved it.
  9. You're absolutely right, but it's an indicator I guess - if it is beaten up it might well be becasue someone couldn't put it down. It might also indicate that it's a cheap beater bass that they can't be bothered to look after! My dad was absolutely meticulous with his instruments - a professional who carefully wiped down his instruments after every gig and practise - some of them are older and me and still look great and they got constant play.
  10. Great layouts - they always look so clean and ordered! I can't imagine how much work goes into them. DI out is really useful in a pedal like this. I'd love to know how they sound!
  11. I read the original post and the bit where he says, and I quote: Sounds weirdly like he's saying that wood that is shaping the tone. Softer wood = less rigidity = "background coloration" And at the end he says: Weirdly non-binary complexity alert!
  12. Sorry to hear about the truss rod. 64.5 sounds a bit wider than usual you're right. It's good to get a good tight fit with the body - I guess you could always get some maple veneer and bulk it out a little bit if it was an issue. I think your best bet is to find a replacement jazz neck - the pocket size is standard between jazz and precision. I hear good things about https://guitarandbassbuilds.com/ or you could try northwestern. I've had success with allparts but they can be quite pricey.
  13. Will accept offers, and a discount if you want to collect from N8 (socially distanced of course!)
  14. Yeah - I had an L2000 and found it a bit intense for my tastes on most settings. I think part of my problem was listening at home with a pre-amp or DI rather than smashing it into a '72 Ampeg with no horn - schoolboy error! In the end I could dial in sounds I liked but I think my sloppy technique was highlighted by the unforgiving clarity at the top end.
  15. As new, unused with screws. £6 each posted or a tenner for both. Bought from Axes R us.
  16. Including postage, works great. This is the 4.4 so has hum cancelling 'single coil' mode so would suit a bass to be wired Series/Parallel/Single best (I can throw in an on-on-on switch for that if you want). Currently wired for parallel I ordered this direct from Nordstrand as they are often out of stock at bass direct. Comes with box, screws and springs. Includes postage in the UK. See also my other ads in this section for John East MM pre and a MM Warmoth body.
  17. I dropped a solder station on this so there are some repaired spots in the finish - it doesn't look great close up! Please check the photos. I repaired the spots with nail varnish and I'm pretty sure someone more competant could do a better job. Other wise this is a great body. I'm pretty sure it's alder, it's light and resonant. Music man pickup rout Fender neck pocket Angled neck pocket for improved access to the shred (comes with cut down fender neck screws - YOU CAN DESTROY YOUR NECK IF YOU USE THE WRONG SCREWS) Copper shielding with ground wire Rear rout with cover Comes with cut down neck screws, stereo switchcraft barrel jack and pickguard. Feel free to ask any questions. And see my other ads in this section for Nordstrand MM4.4 pickup and John East pre
  18. Good condition, just removed from a Warmoth body. Does what it says on tin plus much more. 3 knobs, Volume and stacked Bass/Treble and Swept Mid Dip swtich to define range of mid sweep Treble pull for extra bright Dip switch to allow use of non MM pickups I resoldered the volume knob (tested) after replacing it with a push pull knob for parallel/series All the parts it came with for you to install except for a jack socket. No MM plate - I don't know if it fits a standard plate! Please check before buying. I had it on a Warmoth rear rout body and the threads were long enough to accomodate that. I have the PDF of the installation guide if you have any trouble getting it from the John East site. Please note that you'll have solder this in place AND have a stereo jack plug. See my other ads in this section for pickup and body. Includes postage in the UK.
  19. One of the totally obvious things I've learnt recently is "you cannot add what isn't there, but you can roll off the treble". By which I mean if your bass has no zing no EQ on earth be able to will add it, but reaching down to the treble knob will always roll off anything you don't want. A lot of people say to approach the MFD differently and start with the tone controls down and bring them up rather than start with them up and bring them down.
  20. I always liked the reverse P Eagle: https://reverb.com/item/6192883-b-c-rich-eagle-bass I even like the body shape - feels more california whimsical than metal.
