  1. I didn't like to say anything as you had already committed, but I was afraid of that - I have had exactly the same thoughts about hum cancelling nordstrand pickups before. I have a bassculture.de 51 splitcoil and I don't think it suffers from that problem - it has plenty of character - but it is hum free. Not a lot of information out there about it! I assume it's a version of the standard split p pickup but with 4 pole pieces and packaged like the original.
  2. I think the OP says set rather than through neck?
  3. This came through from G&L: Covers the basics.

    Through neck or bolt on?
  5. Thanks all - a powered speaker is making a lot of sense to me, especially since I do some synth stuff to and could use it double duty. I like the idea of full range as well - popping!
  6. That is a thought!
  7. I want to updgrade from my ancient Sessionette bass amp. It's heavy and I never liked the tone. I would like class D head small that I can plug into to play, clean, analogue - no digital tone printing anything. I'm thinking of getting a TC Electronic BC208 2x8 + head as a mini practice rig. Mainly for playing at home and band rehearsal which are not that loud, and maybe at a pinch as personal monitoring at a gig. (In some ways I'd be happy if it was just a power amp but I'm having trouble finding anything like that. That way I could just plug a pre amp in front of it and idspense with tone controls and drive.) And all for a say £300-400? I was looking at the tc electronic BQ500 Bass Head as I like that FET sound but no one has them in stock and the lead times suggest they may never come back in. So I started looking at the Ampeg PF-500/350 Portaflex 4ohm 500w Class-D, or Maybe the cheaper Markbass ones? I'm open to suggestions! I guess Ideally I'd like a massive classic Ampeg stack, maybe SVT, but back in the real world...
  8. That is The Bass Gallery on Reverb - both those things contribute to it having an inflated price. People put stuff up on Reverb for silly money and then just wait until someone who really really wants it and has the cash comes along.
  9. Cool! So it's set and forget?
  10. These guys are great - they get so many great basses through that they really know the details: https://www.montysguitars.com/pages/rewinds
  11. Yes, and inside out! The most astonishing technique - especially when he slaps which is also sort of upside down - mental! Well worth a look at his youtube channel.
  12. Wow, something very appealing about it visually! GLWTS
  13. I need to see this as part of a 'look'! Congratulations- that looks like one hell of a bass!
  14. Nice - I think that is maybe the ultimate tone monster pickup combo. The MM seems close to the bridge? What was your thinking?
  15. - I always like the flat Peavey profile - I spent a long time looking for it in other places without realising I'd developed my liking for it on the cheapest bass I've ever owned.
  16. Nice! How do you rate the neck?
  17. Wow - great job - sounds great too! I love all those BC Rich basses from the eighties and with the double P and through neck this is reminiscent of those. Nice!
  18. I've a mustang control plate I bought but never used and could send you? Might not be perfect though
  19. Everytime I go into a shop and try something I get some aspect of this. Fortunately/unfortunately most of the basses I've tried that really rang my bell were in the 2K region and pleasantly unobtainable right now. But they did give me a lot of ideas about what I like, what is 'true' about different basses and what I might aim for in the future. The short scale oak blastcult bass I tried sort of opened the doors of perception bass-wise: fun, solid, quick great sounding and nothing like a p-bass or a stingray, or really any other bass I've tried. bit spendy though!
  20. Lovely - pretty sure I've seen Larry Graham playing through these as well. It feels like such a big part of *that* sound.
  21. Dennis! Legend - he's the first interview in this which I'm just reading: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bass-Mids-Strange-Attractor-Press/dp/1907222774
  22. As a long time analogue synth user I can say with some certainty that you should never use switch cleaner in a pot. it will remove the conductive lubricant and the conductor will start to get scraped away. Use Deoxit - they do a cleaner and a lubricator - I forget the details but a web search will turn it up. To re-iterate (and at the risk of coming on all prescriptive!) If you use contact cleaner it will work initally as it will clear the dirt but also the pot lubricant and soon cause lasting damage to the pot. Often the best cure is just to turn the pot 10 or 20 times - that sometimes moves the dirt around in a way that sometimes resolves the problem ambiently!
