  1. Never heard of them. I shall give it a watch and educate myself.
  2. Being a relatively new " born again bassist " I've only ever left one band. Actually, half a band as some of us are still together. It got to the point where it became obvious that the band was pulling in different directions, I didn't want to fall out with anybody, so I messaged the rest of the band to say that I would honour the gigs we'd already got booked ( even though there was one in particular I really didn't want to do ) then I was out. Which I thought was fair enough. I didn't want to leave anyone in the lurch. So we then went out separate ways. Two of the guitarists went off on their own, and have since been advertising for a bass player, " no previous experience necessary, full training provided ". Just goes to show how much my role in the band was valued and appreciated. After all. Any idiot can play bass.
  3. Quitting band etiquette. Shout "fx#@ you guys. I'm done" at the top of your voice, then stomp to the door and slam it as loudly as possible behind you. Come back five minutes later and spend an awkward half an hour sheepishly packing up your gear whilst trying not to make eye contact with anybody.
  4. It's an ice-cream cone in Northern Ireland.
  5. We used to play this, and the conclusion was, there are so many different variations of the song, due in part to Chuck using different session musicians rather than his own backing band, that there really was no such thing as an "original" way to play it. I used to play it as straight 12 bar, and it sounded fine to me.
  6. Cheap does not necessarily equal bad quality. I've played some superb budget basses. I've also played some expensive ones that are absolute sh1te!
  7. I've just ordered a set of medium scale flats. I'll let you know how I get on.
  8. Very nice! Vintage make cracking instruments that punch well above their price tag. Glwts.
  9. Another cow poop local collection only listing. Why does no one post anything any more?
  10. It looks like it was conjured as opposed to built.
  11. Must have taken him all day. At £8 an hour. That's at least forty quids worth of work. Too rich for my blood!
  12. It's nice enough. But I never really got the vintage instrument thing. I'd rather have something shiney and new. Maybe I'm just a heathen.
  13. Oh God No! That's just noise! Maybe (thankfully) my mind is only capable of comprehending kindergarten jazz.
  14. Musically it's fine. Quite a catchy little ditty. Reminiscent of some of the early 90's Indy stuff. I just hate bad lyrics. I'm surprised by the recent thread on the very subject, how many people don't care about, or even listen to lyrics. Bad, forced, meaningless lyrics are a deal breaker for me.
  15. Oh God those lyrics though! "What rhymes with bass?" "Space?" "Yeah, that'll do. Let's shoehorn that in." My brain is trying to remove itself from my ears.
  16. The reason the room is empty is because they all saw you caring that lot in. They're all standing over the other side of the car park. 😂
  17. Yeah I've never really felt the "need" for one, but I've recently started learning a lot more music theory, and I've kind of got to the stage of, now is as good a time as any. I might never actually play one live, but just as a tool / learning exercise I think it could be worth it. Plus I've just seen a dirt cheap 5er for sale locally. So it might be worth a punt.
  18. I'm not even going through the pretence. I'm already hankering for a foray into the world of 5 strings and it's not even Christmas yet. Ooh, that's a thought. If I buy one before new year, I can still try to convince myself I'm not going to buy anything next year. 😄
  19. Wow. Is low F# even audible? I wouldn't fancy my cabs chances down that low.
  20. Oh yeah. Absolute brain f@rt moment. I don't know what I was thinking. I told you it was a daft question. Oh well. I'll leave the thread here just for comedy value.
  21. ..... But here goes anyway. As my old highschool teacher used to say. The only daft questions are the ones you don't ask. I've never played a 5 string in my life. I don't think I've ever even picked one up, so please forgive my ignorance. Why is the bottom string on a 5 string bass tuned to B? Presumably it's that way to mirror the 5th string on a guitar, but the only reason that guitars are tuned that is to enable the playing of chords (I may be wrong about that too), which is something we don't generally need to do, certainly not down at the bottom end. Wouldn't it make more sense to tune the low string to C? That way you're keeping the intervals and box shapes consistent across the neck. Unless you desperately need a low B, then it just seems to make more sense to me to tune to C? Is this something anyone does? If I decided to dip my toe (or fingers as it were) into the world of 5ers, is there any reason I can't tune to CEADG? Given that it's only a semitone higher I can't see as it would make a massive difference to string tension or pressure on the neck.
  22. Mine is the exact opposite. The quality is unbelievable. It feels like it should be three times the price.
