  1. I had a simply awful rehearsal last night. Singer we were due to audition for our casual covers band dropped out last minute. Band agreed to get together and just jam - unfortunately this is a particular weakness of mine. Guitarists start busting out riffs and songs .. drummer gets into it and they are all going and sounding great. I'm left there thinking 'ummmm' .. after watching the 1 x guitarists finger board for a bit I'm able to start figuring out the chord progression and playing along (until a transition to a new section at least). Problem is my playing along is just sitting on the root note for said chord playing quarter notes, any variation I try and put in just sounds crap - be it me trying some syncopated rhythms or a fill. I just lacked ideas / creativity and anything I tried just wasn't executed well. It's frustrating to me that when they do this there's no discussion on what chord progressions are but that's never going to happen with this lot as they don't need it, they seem to quickly figure out what is going on.I left feeling utterly depressed and a bit humiliated - I'm on the verge of just quitting and telling them to find a better bassist. That being said - being able to just jam, no preparation and sound good is my playing ambition - 2019 is the year I'm going to achieve this, I'm determined. My cry for help is how do I go about acheiving that. I would love some advice from more seasoned / confident players on approach.
  2. I'm digging the Foals! Definitely going to look at adding a track or two from this lot.
  3. I am but a simple man, I didn't understand a word of that or how it would serve to protect the integrity of a musical genre.
  4. That could be the end of my covers band career then!! 😟😟
  5. We are actually doing a Royal Blood song, figure it out - but when you re-engineer it to work as a full band and you are simply playing the notes from the lower register it becomes less fun to play.
  6. I'm happy to forego challenging and settle for interesting. What I mean is a lot of music I seem to end up playing spends an awful lot of time pedalling the root note :).
  7. Welcome to Basschat! Hope you're enjoying it thus far. I saw you were a Clash fan, if you like punk 6 Music radio have been promoting the IDLES a lot over the last week. For some reason they reminded me a lot of a modern day Clash (though upon re-listening to the Clash I'm not sure why). I'm not a massive punk fan in general but there was something about them I really liked.
  8. I'll definitely have a few older ones in there - 100% agree on Andy Rourke! I've never listened to much Costello but will take some time too. But really I'm looking for some suggestions of music produced after 2000. LOL surely not, it can't be true! Is Rock n Roll dead after all???
  9. Any recommendations for interesting Rock bassists / bass lines from the last few decades? I seem to have lost touch with what's happening in music these days but the band I'm playing are looking to get some pub gigs next year and I'm trying to build some set lists. Most of the songs going on are pretty uninspiring from a bass perspective, it's the usual mix of Foo Fighters, Strokes, Oasis, Kings of Leon etc. I don't mind that and it's what seems to go down well in dive bars but I'm looking for a few songs that will challenge me and be a bit interesting to play and hopefully listen too! Flea, Tony Kanal, Jeff Ament, Chris Wolstenholme are guys I'm going to check out as they play in bands that would fit but even they are pretty dated now - there must be some more modern stuff that's pretty good that's passed me by. Thanks
  10. Who did you order it through? I love the configurator and was thinking about ordering something along the lines of this but wasn't sure who to order through, bassdirect maybe? Not a glamour shot by any means, but this is the guitar has set me on my current Sandberg lust... My VT4.
  11. Thanks - going to grab Ez Drummer myself
  12. Stompbox (fxpedal.co.uk) are local to me so I have stopped in and bought stuff before but they are a small independent and are not always the cheapest. I'm not sure they are guilty of raising their prices ahead of BlackFriday to compensate for their offer just that they don't try and compete with the likes of Anderton's / GAK etc. for online sales. I've seen a few items on there that would work out cheaper so it always pays to do your research to make sure it's the best deal.
  13. https://www.fxpedal.co.uk are doing 10% off everything on their site until Monday. Code BlackFriday10.
  14. Maybe the Basschat team could set something up and do it properly - would be great to have a well thought out resource to find bands or band mates.
  15. I've added the neck widths under the weight in the spec above.
  16. Ah, another member of the 4x kid club!
  17. Perhaps you could try selling a kid on the BC market place (under the sell anything category)- or trade one for a new bass.
  18. A few times in this, and other recent threads of a similar nature, sellers over pricing items comes up as a theme. Having literally just listed a bass for sale an hour ago (that Sandberg GAS has got me good) at what I think is a fair price has made me wonder about how BCers go about figuring what a fair market value actually is for an item. Incidentally within 30 mins of posting my listing I get messaged asking what is the lowest price I'll drop too
  19. Does the agent and venue know this is the plan ? I guess if you don't do it then they'll find someone else who will so you may as well pocket the cash. I guess singers do it a the time but it does feel wrong.
  20. Lovely guitar in very good used condition. I'm selling as I want to move back to 4 string instruments. - Purchased new in 2016 - Blackburst colour - Aguilar pickups - 2 band active EQ, tone control for passive mode - Active / passive toggle switch. - Schaller tuners - Schaller strap locks - Re-strung last week with Ernie Ball Flats. - Weight 4.6kg - Neck Widths: nut: 43.0 mm, XII fret: 65.7 mm, XXIV fret: 77.0 mm - Mayones deluxe gig bag included Pictured Right On strap not included. Guitar is located in Watford, can also meet in Central London during the week. I will consider shipping at buyers expense. Trades considered but only for a Sandberg TT4 or TM4.
  21. It was only meant as a bit of fun Personally I'd go for Amp The Markbass EVO1 la bam is selling, @ £450 is a great price for what looks like a really interestingand useful amp. Guitar There are a few interesting guitars for sale at the moment but, the Sandberg TM4 Supreme in black is what I'd go for as I've got a bout of GAS for one of these at the moment. I'd also probably take is the fretted Mayones BE4 - £470 delivered seems like a real bargain for what I think is a lovely looking guitar. I've been playing a Jabba for a while and always like Mayones neck profiles.
  22. Def BC marketplace but would be fun to see what else is out there that tickles your fancy, fleabay, bumtree, FB etc.
  23. So, here's a question .. Assuming you had no constraints with money, space or logicisitcs which Bass Guitar AND / OR Amplifier would you buy from the items currently available in the BC market place ??
