  1. It looks like Amazon has stopped taking orders for the book. Hopefully this doesn't mean existing orders will be cancelled The £110 price is offers for second hand copies available through 3rd parties on the Amazon Market Place.
  2. I was in the Bass Gallery (Camden) last week, they had a pretty decent selection on Amps, including the Trickfish .5k and a bunch of Markbass stuff.
  3. Thanks for the replies so far guys, The Markbass NY121 and Eden EX112 on the short list. I'll look into the TKS cabs too, I don't know much about TKS as yet.
  4. Morning Bass Chatters, I find myself cab-less after recently parting with my two 4x10 cabinets as part of my 2018 gear reduction strategy. The 4x10's were overkill for the sorts of venues I was playing and were taking up way to much space in the house. I'm looking for recommendations for a more compact rig suitable for pub / small private party events. My current head is a Markbass Little Mark Tube (500w @4 Ohm). As for style, the band I play with is moving towards Indie Rock covers though I'd really like to be playing more funk based music (Motet, Electro Deluxe, ToP etc.) - I'm not sure they are too far apart sound wise. All advice and suggestions welcome. ~PJ
  5. Last year I purchased a new amp head, I was after a Valve Pre / Class D hybrid with 500w Output. I settled on the Mark Bass Little Mark Tube; I've not gigged it yet so can't comment too much on it's performance (but if it's good enough for the likes of Michael League and Joe Dart I'm sure it will satisfy the likes of me). My short list of heads which may be helpful to you was: - Little Mark Tube (a 800w version exists) - Ampeg SVT-7 Pro - Eden World Tour Pro 600 (a 900 version exists) - Genzler Magellan 800 (wasn't Hybrid but loads of great feedback) - Aguilar AG700 I went for the Markbass ultimately because it was cheaper than some of the other options and I'd been to see a bunch of live bands recently and the bassists were all using Markbass rigs of some kind across a variety of music style. If I was looking now I'd be waiting to try the Mesa WD-800 as per @Al Krow and the new Markbass Little Mark Vintage.
  6. I'd argue every bassist needs an SVT rig in their life
  7. Just looked it up, F Bass VF4-PJ http://www.fbass.com/instock/stock/600518
  8. This popped up on my Instagram feed... Can't say I'm a fan!
  9. Trickfish had passed me by somewhat , but I was at the bass gallery yesterday ( not good for GAS) and I really liked the look of the 4*8 cab.
  10. I don't think it's an unreasonable ask for a venue to request that a band they've booked have the appropriate coverage; assuming it's a paid gig. But I agree they should be able to demonstrate they meet the required standards too.
  11. Two venues we played last year required us to have it - they weren't proper venues, sports clubs etc and needed it for their insurance purposes. Fortunately, as an amatuer with a full time job I was able to get a colleague in our facilities team do the testing for me. Quotes I got ran at about £75 to have all the equipment for the full band tested (suspect I could have got it cheaper if I kept looking).
  12. How on earth do you have time for five bands??!!!! 😱
  13. # in Band - 5 # Friends - 0.5 # Colleagues - 1 # Dislike - 0.5 The last 3, may or may not all relate to the same band member
  14. ^^ this Knowing the scale / mode, how to play it and how it is constructed is important but what I have learnt the frustrating way is that unless you can apply it musically it has no value. I'm changing my approach to learning sclaes & modes by 1, doing some circle of fifth, two octave and chord tones over chord progression exercises mixed with a big chunk of time just jamming to backing tracks / songs with those scales and getting a feel wmcof what sounds good. The latter part is what is improving me as a player
  15. I think they are adding additional content over the weekend. There is at least 1 new item on there since I posted the link. Hopefully they'll cover the Darkglass, Markbass stuff too .
  16. Regarding the electric, I've always thought that if I ever got a professional gig like working with a theatre I'd keep well away from boutique and just go Boss. I've always found that Boss pedals are built like tanks, reliable and easy to operate (with the large footswitch). Kind of everything you'd want in that kind of setting. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to get hold of (should you need a last minute replacement). So I'd go: TU-3 Tuner CEB-3 Bass Chorus OC-3 Super Octave
  17. NoTeble now have a Namm 2019 article going: https://www.notreble.com/buzz/tag/namm-2019/ Hopefully they'll keep it updated As they've yet to cover a few things called out on this thread already
  18. I've got two Heistercamp straps - handmade in Devon. I like them both but the padded Onyx one is particularly comfy. I've also got a Right On strap that I picked up at Bassdirect . That is on my heaviest bass, it's nice and wide with some padding. Distributes the weight well and was about 1/2 the price of the Heistercamp ones.
  19. In case you've not already seen it
  20. One for the guitarists but this just popped into a news feed.. The Dookie Drive I listened to that album so many times in my youth.
