I love the look of Maruszczyk Elwood & Jake basses! Never played or seen one in the flesh though - yet! A guilty pleasure - I went on the build your own section of their website. I either win the lottery, sell a kidney, or sell some basses to afford it

'politeness' - mmm...its got a certain je ne sais quoi... ...I'm not sure about the whole engaging with people bit though. The politeness bit would be so much easier without the other people.

According to Carole Kaye, it should be a P bass with flatwounds & played with a felt pick (axe ⛏). She played on over 10,000 records, so it must be right!

A novice's error, my dear ahpook! You haven't considered tuning by harmonics, using a polychromatic tuner or even 5,6,8 & 12 string instruments! A common mistake made by those without the benefit of Advanced Proficiency - Turny-Twisty Things at Top Of Bass Guitar' degree (correspondence course - $99.99 including embossed & gilt certificate )
