  1. Been listening to a fair bit of Trinity lately, this one is Fairly recent, it’s a cracker
  2. Great bass, I’ve never had any strings with yellow silk, might be DR legend flats , not sure how long they’ve been around though 🙂
  3. Very clever, but if she sang me to sleep I’d have nightmares 😁
  4. That’s really nice Cato, do you want to sell....the stickers 😁
  5. It’s a great thread, I only use flats and have done for years , it’s interesting to find out about their history 🙂
  6. If music shops in the U.K. sold fenders , why wouldn’t they have a catalogue
  7. Yeah that’s true Hz, hofner go back a long way don’t they
  8. It looks like fender also did flatwound strings then, and tapewound, here’s a 1969 catalogue , so I’m guessing that if you bought a new jazz or P, it would come with their own strings
  9. It doesn’t seem real when you look at it now, but that was a lot of money then 🙂
  10. Don’t want to derail your thread but a few pages on look how much a new jazz or P was , 🙂
  11. I’ve just looked in a Bells catalog that i have from 1977 when I first went into a music store, it looks like picato did them
  12. A bit before my time but fairly sure labella flats were around then , didn’t James jamerson use them at Motown records
  13. I’ve still got my Washburn force 4, it’s a great bass, extremely low action and a fairly flat fingerboard, and it rarely goes out of tune, I really should play it more, it’s got some punch especially on the bass control , I might have to have a play tomorrow now you’ve reminded me about it 🙂
  14. I’ve been following Linval Thompson since the early 80s , and he’s still got it, he’s about 66 now, there’s some nice bass playing here at sunsplash 2019, looks like the bass player is playing a Marcus Miller jazz through an Ampeg rig (not sure who he is). , can’t stop natty dread again at 21.08 sounds great

  16. Welcome Charles 👍
  17. Welcome Supernaut 👍
  18. It’s a Levy day today ☝️
  19. One thing that helped me massively with understanding the setting up was doing a few builds for fun, the first was a Mexican jazz, I completely stripped it and changed the colour and neck, then upgraded all the parts , it gave me a good insight into how it was put together, I had to look up quite a few things like shimming and pickup heights, but it was an enjoyable experience and a good learning curve 🙂
  20. For me , the neck profile and shape makes the biggest difference, if I don’t like the feel of it I don’t buy it and I almost know instantly whether it’s for me or not , as far as the sound goes, the choice of strings can make a massive difference ,it took me a long while and a lot of money to find my ideal string, and also a good setup to your preference can make a bass feel totally different , I used to pay for my basses to be setup and I always had to make further adjustments, so I now set them up myself 🙂
  21. I find the first fret quite easy to reach 😁
  22. Fret the first and second finger then move slightly up the neck and fret the third and fourth, it’s less stretching
  23. Yeah, I liked the look of it and I remembered that it wasn’t that big , I know @wateroftyne has or had one, perhaps he could help 🙂
  24. A friend of mine has one and he plays the same as me, reggae/dub, it sounds great and does the lows really well
