  1. Thanks for the feedback, Folks! Point noted about the Walkabout especially @Beedster... And just to be 100% clear, is that also the case with the Big Block 750 @agedhorse?
  2. Hi Folks Are there any Mesa Boogie owners out there who can help me with a couple of questions : First, where's the best place to buy slow-blow fuses for my 2 Mesa amps? I have a Walkabout and Big Block 750. Secondly, I've read on both Talkbass and here on Basschat that the Walkabout will run safely at 2 ohms and just wondered if anyone on here has had experience of doing that safely? Thanks for reading as ever.. πŸ‘ Nik
  3. Almost 4 years after I sold a custom T-Bird bass to Rod, aka @howdenspur, we've just met up again this week (during his and Mrs Howdenspur's holiday in St Ives, Cambs) to do another deal... .. A trade in fact, with my Maya Stealth bass going in Rod's direction and the custom T-Bird coming back my way. As is customary in these situatuons, we had a great chat over a pint about all things bass (and a few other important things too) and somehow managed to laugh off being asked to 'play a few tunes' by some geezer who wandered over to find what we were doing playing instruments with headphones on whilst sat in the bar! 😁 So, it was great to meet up with Rod again, and to be reunited with the T-Bird, and even better to meet Mrs Howdenspur for the first time too! As has already been said many times in this thread, Rod is a great person to deal with and a brilliant Basschatter! Hope you enjoy the bass Rod, and here's to the next time!! πŸ˜‚
  4. It was Henry 'King Thumb' Thomas.. He used to live down the road from me in the early '90s and I had a few lessons with him, which were fantastic! He's a very decent bloke and a superb musician.. Started off as a cellist apparently.
  5. I remember Direct Line saying the exact same thing to me back in the late '80s!! The only decent reply I can think of to such a stupid statement would be to say that the only reason Mick Jagger would be in any of our cars these days, would be that we're dropping him off at the local Day Care centre...
  6. That's an absolute corker of a vintage bass! 😊 GLWTS
  7. Very nice plectrum work there, @theyellowcar πŸ‘
  8. What a great thread! Really gets you thinking... For me, it's Dennis Dunaway, bass player in the original Alice Cooper band from the late '60s to mid '70s. His style and sound still resonate strongly with me today, 50 years after first hearing him play .. So many Alice Cooper songs on their first few albums were built around his bass lines. Here's one song from the School's Out album, 1972 which demonstrates exactly that: Obviously, there are many other bass players who's playing I love and who have influenced me over the years too ( Macca, Trevor Bolder, Leigh Gorman, John Gustafson, James Jamerson and Bernard Edwards to name but a few).. But on reflection, I think Dunaway's the guy who most strongly impacted the way I approached bass playing when I first started out as a 14 year old kid. So, it's all his fault! πŸ˜‚
  9. +1 These are great amps, and very loud in an old-skool 'Trace Elliot watts' kind of way!
  10. Indeed it was @Dood... I wrote this on another post about it a couple of years ago.. "I remember having an absolutely hilarious road trip up there with @WalMan and @Merton. It was a great day.... 😊 Despite it being the Bash where a guy (who's name escapes me) played slap bass at max volume for about 4 hours non-stop.. How no one decked him that day, I'll never know! Happy days 😁" https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/339681-the-13th-south-east-bass-bash-sunday-20-october-2019/?do=findComment&comment=3885849
  11. Mine #1 Bass for all situations is my 1984 BC Rich Eagle, as can be seen being splendiferously modelled below by Andy at the 2019 South East Bass Bash..
  12. Seriously, I can't stress how good these combos sound. I used mine again last night at rehearsal and it just filled the room; great, punchy full phat tone, and plenty of volume (if not a little too much at times... πŸ˜‰) At this price, it's an absolute bargain. If I could find a way to sneak this indoors myself ..... Well, probably not, as I've too much gear as it is. But you know what I mean! GLWTS πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  13. Wot' e said.. And the OP!
  14. I had two MTDs some years ago, and a normal chromatic tuner worked fine with those.. Lovely looking bass this btw, and at an excellent price! GLWTS
  15. Yep - the Handbox R400 is a dream..
  16. Interesting thread... I'm looking forward to the 'How Andy Travis changed the s/h bass economy' thread, with a special foreword by ped.
  17. I was in a covers band for about 10 years and probably did 200 plus gigs with them in that time. For most of that period, my main gigging rig was a Hughes and Kettner Bassbase 600 head, an SWR Triad cab, used with my passive BC Rich Eagle and a passive Fender Roscoe Beck V. Obviously, that was a heavy enough rig to lug around as it was, but I liked the sound my set up produced and so did the band. Anyway, after 10 years or so, the band changed direction and I joined another covers band.... It was all amicable, and we kept in touch as you do .. Then, 4 years later, they got in touch and asked me to help out with a few gigs as their bass player was unavailable. By this time, though my basses were the same, I'd changed my rig to a brilliant 90s Ampeg V4BH that I'd bought from @Beedster which came with a matching 115 svt. To that, I added the matching 210 svt. I know; different speaker sizes = a cardinal sin right! Anyway, i went along to do these gigs with the band and they were completely blown away with the sound of my heavy, class A/B, all valve, USA built Ampeg rig with its sinfully mismatched speaker sizes. I was still using the same basses and I wasn't playing the songs any better particularly. .. The only difference was the rig. Three other things of note in this story... The guitar player in the band co-owned a PA that he hired out and did front of house sound for, so he had what I'd call 'pretty good ears'. Their unavailable bass player at the time used a nice American made Fender Jazz through a Markbass LM111 head and 2 matching Markbass 115 cabs. The new band that I'd joined also loved my Ampeg rig compared to my older rig. I dont know what makes the difference here - I'm not technical in any way. But I do think that, as sentient human beings, we 'feel' things as well as 'know' things and, where music making is concerned for me, I choose to follow what i feel, over what I know.
  18. +1 Stunning! GLWTS with the sale... (to Cornwall) 😁
  19. As long as it's wierd 5h1t with heft, that's OK...

  22. Hi Folks, Thanks for all your input, advice and comments. Based on all your feedback, I'm going to look at adding another 4 ohm 1156 to what I have already, which won't be a problem as I really like the sound of the cab. My neighbours are going to hate me (even more than they do now)... 😁 Oh, and thanks for the very funny 'Ohmage is what you pay to The Ok' comment @Bill Fitzmaurice - that really made me chuckle! πŸ˜‚
