Those are Hagstrom's proprietary PU's for those basses. They call them "H rails", they're passive and mediocre sounding. All of the other PU's (in my MTD's and Elrick) are Bartolini.
Ok, thanks..only they look like a Bill Lawrence designed PU that I had in a 1984 BC Rich eagle some years ago and that sounded superb!
2. That's a great looking rig, and an even better looking bass!! Amazing cabs; I heard some Bergantino stuff at the Bass Gallery in May and was very impressed! Good luck with the sale...
3.
Top marks for the layout of your sale by the way. Clearly laid out information , and a fantastic series of detailed photos . Good luck with the sale
+1 This is how it should be done! Good luck with it btw...
4.
Hey guys, Here I have my beloved left handed Tokai Jazz Bass. At some point between the 80's and now it's had it's neck replaced with what seems to be a Fender Jazz Bass neck. I am a right handed player so I have the bass strung the other way, but obviously that can be easily redeemed. When I got this, it had no knobs and botched jobs done on the electrics. I've recently had this looked at and fixed so everything is working perfectly It's got awesome tone and sad to put it up for sale. Not really sure what to sell this for really - so I'm up for offer's Cash and possible swaps. Thanks, Josh
I had a 1984 CAR Tokai Jazzsound and that was a superb bass, certainly as good as any Fender I'd had and in fact, I preferred it to a 1966 jazz that I once had.. Traded it with Beedster 2 years ago and no idea where it is these days, but these vintage Tokais are well worth looking out for. Good luck with the sale!
5. Very nice; got one of these myself.. Good luck with the sale..
6. Very nice bass; well worth £500 of anyone's money (and more).. Good luck with the sale!
7. Great set-up! Are those Bill Lawrence pick ups in the flame-top?
8. That is gorgeous!! and I agree with Nick; don't sell it.. I had a natural 1979 'Ray about 15 years ago and had to sell it because of getting divorced (sold it to Martin Peteresn at The Gallery) and it was a fabulous bass. IMO, the pre-Ernie Ball models do genuinely have something extra special about them.
9. We do 'Trouble' in our set and it always goes down well and is a joy to play.. I'd really love to see him live though not got round to it yet, but the BBC programmes are so good it kind of makes up for it.
10. + 1 on all the positive comments above! When I started playing bass and gigging again after a break of 12 years, I bought an old Peavey Mk IV (1982) head & an unnamed 115 cab from someone on Bassworld as it was then, to start me off and it was great! At the time, I was using that amp/cab combination with an MTD passive 5 string that I bought for £200, so all in all, it was a £300 set-up..but our guitarist (who really knows his stuff where gear is concerned) was astonished at how good it all sounded! Eventually, I added a Peavey 210TX to that set-up to run it all at 2 ohms and that was even better and had no problems with running at all 2 ohms.. As well as that, I've tried the Session amp that Alex mentioned and that was good too, though a tad underpowered for me, plus a T-Max which was very good for the money.. and I've also had the 410 TVX which really does produce a lot of low-end and is excellent at delivering a low-B string! I still have the initial Mark IV head that I bought 3 years ago and have also recently accuired Barney's MKIII (1979) as well and, though I've just upgraded my rig to an Eden Metro, I will definitely be keeping at least one of the two Peavey heads as a low-cost/low-maintenance back up because they're just so good!
11. Those are just fabulous looking basses!! Can't afford one myself at the moment but just wanted to BUMP them up as they deserve it..
12.
Having owned a WT series Eden, and now an RS700 Nemesis... I would describe the 'flat' (no eq) sound to be quite similar, i.e clean, clear and slightly scooped.
Thanks; that's a real help... good to have a direct comparison made etc, etc..
13.
Does this sound like a proper Eden head?
That's a good question and a difficult one to answer.. The Nemesis e.q architecture (to borrow their very highbrow phrase) is very similar to all Eden heads, though there are 2 distinct differences IMO: 1) the NA650 is a solid state amp so it uses a solid state bit of trickery to emulate the valve pre-amp design / sound that lots of the other World Touring series Eden heads have. It does it well - a bit like Gallien Krueger's 'boost and G.I.V.E. technology - but it is definitely not a 'valve' sound. 2) the semi-parametric e.q. on the NA650 is good but nowhere near as flexible as the World Touring series Eden heads Hope that helps to answer your question in part but come back to me if not!
14. BUMP! Last couple of days before the auction ends on Evil Bay. Though would much rather see it go to a fellow BC member if possible...
15.
It sounds pretty much like a Jazz but a bit beefier. You can add a huge amount of low end or top end sheen with the Aguilar or you can just go passive by pulling the volume pot. You can get an approximation of a P-bass too by messing around with the coil taps. All in all, it's quite versatile but I've a Bongo 5HH and a Carvin 5er. Any interest? Cheers, John.
Thanks.. I've always fancied a Valenti to be honest, more than a Sadowsky for example, and this is only the 2nd (or maybe 3rd) 5 string I've seen on Basschat which makes it quite unique! However, having just upgraded my rig, I can't spend money on more basses and the only two 5 string basses I have are both Jazzes, so that kind of rules me out of the equation when it comes to trades.. So best I can do is say 'lovely bass' and give you a free BUMP!
16. Saw this amp the other night up at Jay's place and it looks the business.. This is a real bargain at this price!
17. Looks like a great bass with excellent electronics! Looking at the Talkbass forums, Valenti has a pretty good reputation too.. But what does it actually sound like?
18.
Cheers Nik, It was good to meet you last night... That Jazz bass of yours sounds 'bloomin lurvly guvna'!!
Cheers.. As did your Status which really surprised me....
19.
Nik was over yesterday and is now the lucky owner of my Eden Metro (Have I done the right thing??????) combo and extension cab. Nik's a great chap to deal with kept me informed all the way!! Good man! Jay
Thanks Jay!!
20.
how would it sound in a metal band? i'm looking for something fairly punchy/growly, or is it sort of neutral sounding like a markbass?
That's a good question! Being a sad old git, I'm not in a metal band but we do Jump by Van Halen, a Killers track and a Hendrix track and the amp always sounds very punchy - though it depends on the type of bass you use as well.. But this amp has good definition and flexibility with mid frequencies, and you can dial in some valve emulation as well.. so should be fine.. Hope that helps!
21. Just been up to the wilds of Essex this evening to meet Jay and, in exchange for giving him lots of pieces of paper with pictures of the Queen on them, he has given me his Eden Metro & Eden 210 rig which sounds absolutely fantastic! The cup of tea & chat was very nice too... Got to say that Jay was a pleasure to deal with and I'd happily do business with him again! Thanks a lot Jay!
22. That's a bargain!!
23.
good god, these are some of the finest collection of basses ive seen hear on BC, this side of CK's instruments
+1
24. Very nice I would imagine... But best not go down that road, Mert.. T'will all end in tears I say!!
25.
I owned a Status 2000 which was all graphite and have played several Stealth 1s. I've played dozens of various Statii over the years and have never yet found one that works for me. One thing I will add is that the syntheticness I mention isn't just the clackiness, it's everything about the sound. If you dial in a smooth round sounds it still sounds synthetic to my ears.
I got a chance to have a go on Crez's Status this evening and I was really impressed by the sound of it! Wasn't comfortable with the feel of the graphite neck still, but tonally, it was possible to use the onboard e.q. to get a very wide range of sounds, including some of those 'old skool' tones (for want of a better expression) that tend to suit an old luddite like me. So, I must confess to having had my expectations very nicely challenged....!!
