  1. I would translate that to F# and pick the one that worked best for the passage. I just have to commit to sharps or flats for general usage and not both at the same time, I can translate but it takes processing I'm using up just being in a screwed up world.
  2. I'm rather glad I neither try to play jazz nor sight read, I'm fine doing my own thing and better off not getting involved in whatever's going on above.
  3. Agreed, and what the hell is it with "double flat"? Really?! Really?!! That's surely just pretentious bull crap! Maybe it means something on an instrument built to take into account micro-tonal variations, but that doesn't seem to be a large pool at all.
  4. So, if I'm playing in that theoretical key, I'm playing what? E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, and D#? I don't think in flats when I already have other terminology that works just fine for the instrument I have - though I understand how to apply flats to bass*, it just complicates things and my autistic brain can't be doing with undue complexity. *Do correct me if I'm wrong, that would genuinely be appreciated.
  5. I love the way you've stacked the Cuteness Fuzz, I bet it really makes everything just purr really nicely.
  6. The only Warwick shape I like, beyond a moment of thinking the Vampyre was cool a dozen years back.
  7. I'm going to have see what I can find in the vintage shops.
  8. I want to know that I can use my pedalboard to smite down my enemy should someone try mugging me on my way home from a gig, rather than give them a muffled slap from a sofa cushion - but hey, maybe you're more into suffocating your assailants; you do you.
  9. I've only ever heard good things about the Tech21 Bass Boost Chorus.
  10. Ah, Comrade you are really rocking out with that Cold War themed board, yes?
  11. Westinghouse M-25 40 watt phase plasma rifle, if we're talking firearms.
  12. When it comes to famous fretless bassists, I prefer Mick Kahn of Japan, personally - now there was someone to make me lust after a fretless and possibly a Wal mk1 while I'm at it. Alas neither my bn balance now my talent permit me that option.
  13. Honestly, Jaco "only ever needing a 4" is to me, a good enough reason to play anything but a four out of spite. And yes, that's as someone who just plays fours - I just find there's something quite arrogant about comparing everyone to Jaco. Not everyone has reverence for his music, and that's not saying we're better, we're just not him and I don't care to try. That being said, most of bass influences are or were 4 string players, they also almost always played some form of Fender and with a pick but why be limited to what players were doing 40-45 years ago if we don't want to be? Sorry, tangent.
  14. Daaamn! Bart plays a right-handed 6 string Warwick Thumb and he's a lefty! Wait, why's there a photo of Homer in a spacesuit on the classroom wall?
  15. I recently switched to playing in D standard on my main bass and drop D on my other. I've never played a 5, but don't think I'd get along with the thicker neck or extra weight*, still I've always wanted some extra low notes** hence the recent switch. I hardly ever play above the 12th fret anyway so I've not exactly lost any upper register. * Though I suspect my Schecter Riot probably weighs about the same as the 5 string version of my Schecter SLS Evil Twin would, but the Riot gets used on fewer songs. ** Oh yes, there's a spot of 5er envy, but this is a good balance for me.
  16. The people saying good things about the Helix 70s chorus - I believe that's the one a bassist friend of mine has used since she switched over to a full Helix set-up and having heard her playing through it, it does sound really good. It wasn't the only effect in the signal chain but it was very much present.
  17. I've just always liked the EHX sound, so when I decided to get rid of my Small Clone, it was for a Bass Clone - smaller package, more sound sculpting ability and that's a win in my book. I wouldn't be averse to trying other choruses but I'd want to have a good try before I buy.
  18. It sounds to me like you need to find a bass that fits all or enough of the criteria to dethrone your MIM P bass, but without you just throwing money away buying a bunch more.
  19. Shattered in Aspect - Faith and the Muse (760) Shattered In Aspect - YouTube
  20. If I had to choose just one addition for the VTBass, it would likely be an effects loop (after the drive section) over a headphone out - though that would certainly be nice.
  21. I see a lot of bassists going nuts of drives, distortions and fuzzes but personally, whilst I like a bit of drive, for me the chorus is the must have effect.
  22. The last band I saw live was a West Yorkshire-based goth/ post-punk band called The Glass House Museum. This was a few weeks ago in Leeds, good gig, good band.
  23. Damn! That feels like a big price difference from what I'd expect to pay for standard four string flats (that aren't Thomastik), even at heavy gauge. What brand were you looking at?
  24. Some of them, such as the SRF700s are neck-through.
