  5. Rotosound Jazz 77 flats are 45/65/85/105/130 for the five string set - I understand you find the Ernie Ball cobalt flats to have greater output, but it sounds like the gauge variation would be a plus point for the Rotos.
  6. I will say, the only time notation would have truly helped me was when I was in a band with a classically trained folk violinist. I think for some genres notation would help more than for others (jazz, for instance). At any rate, it wouldn't hurt to know it, just don't make it your first priority - learning the notes and tuning up must be your first priority once you've decided to actually give bass a go and have (legally) acquired one.

  9. I don't think I signed up to this, but meant to. As it is, I'm still in. The last thing I bought and paid for was in November (HX Stomp XL). I refuse to upgrade anything until I've at least giged some of the cool stuff I have, though I am open to making a level 2 infraction if headphones (for production puproses) are permitted under level 2 rather than level 1.
  10. Just going on the sheer number of big name artists using Schecter, I've got to think it's not a lack of famous players that are a problem for them - though a lot do seem to be hard rock or metal players. I don't think I've seen a Schecter in a physical shop but still, I own two and a good friend of mine owns another herself. Mine are a Riot 4 Aurora Burst and an SLS Evil Twin, both lefthanded. They're both great instruments, particularly the Evil Twin. My friend has a C-5 GT in purple and it looks and feels amazing (for a righthanded instrument). I guess the reason so many manufacturers build Fender-esque instruments is because those general shapes are so baked into the cultural psyche that people expect them and so it's a relatively easy money-maker, especially if you can do it cheaper and with just a touch of modern features to put your own twist on proceedings.
  11. I'd rather have a Stargazer than a Ricky. I loathe the Rickenbacker shape.

  14. I rather like the Reunion Blues Oxford, but it's just slightly above you price (here it is anyway ndertons.co.uk/reunion-blues-rbx-oxford-series-electric-bass-guitar-gig-bag/). I did consider several of those mentioned above, but can't exactly remember why I didn't go for one of them, probably something to do with having bought the most expensive bass I've ever had and opting for a relatively "fancy brand" and Mono was too heavy and ridiculous for my needs (I'm very unlikely to be dropping my bass out of a hotel window from multiple storeys up).

  18. I once owned a BC Rich (Platinum Series) Warlock that I bought to emulate my then guitarist, and the headstock dive on that thing made me strongly dislike playing it, so I traded it in for a Crafter electro-acoustic that I also realised I very much disliked because I'm not in my heart an acoustic player, not even partially. Of the six basses I have owned (I don't buy and sell much, don't go in for collecting really and I'm a lefty), those were the two not to be given names.
  19. Sounds like they were the ones lacking style - speaking one goth to another. Plus, the Bongo's do look rather fetching in my opinion.
  20. The only effects unit I bought this year, the HX Stomp XL - definitely an evolution on how I do things. Everything is now small and clean looking. No damned patch cables getting in the way, and partnered with the Nu>X C-5RC wireless system really frees up my floor space.
  21. Out: HX Effects VTBassDI In: Nu>X C-5RC wireless system HX Stomp XL Not a terriby expensive year, equipment-wise. I do fancy a set of wireless monitoring headphones though, so I don't know I'm going to last 2025 without a purchase, unless I get the order placed really soon.

  23. Just in today. Decided to go all-in and just have one thing to do everything I need and is compact. A relatively small step from an HX Effects and a VTBASS DI, but an important one to me. Free at last from patch cables and pedalboards, yes!
