  1. Al Krow, thank's for your answer and your link to Talkbass. (I should have thought about it). There is not much to read about it for the moment. Yes the Vox is tempting but probably a bit just in level. The Markbass is incredibly powerful for its size, and you're right, the Vox AC 30 is super heavy. 😀 I think I'll probably order the Vox from Thomann and if that doesn't fit to me, send it back. I always take care of the things I return. To be continued while waiting for other people to answer.
  2. Hi Can anyone compare the small Markbass Micromark 801 amp https://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_micromark_801.htm?ref=intl&shp=eyJjb3VudHJ5IjoiZ2IiLCJjdXJyZW5jeSI6NCwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOiJlbiJ9 To the Vox VX50BA https://www.thomann.de/gb/vox_vx50ba.htm? I have the Markbass and use it for cafe restaurant, and find it quite powerful for its size, even with a drummer. I play jazz. Now my back being what it is today, I am 68 years old, I would be interested in the Vox which weighs 4.4kg instead of 6.6 for the Markbass. Can the Vox be pushed let's say at 2/3 or more of its power and keep a clean sound ? Has anyone ever tried the Vox in such a situation or have both amps and can make an a/b ? jazz trio cafe restaurant with drummer + singer? All your comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Alain
  3. What is the use to be able to vary the amount of capacitance of a cable when you know the lowest is the best ?
  4. Nice bass, Italians are good for design
  5. I've already bought something like this from Thomann in case I had a blister, and it doesn't work because it doesn't slip on the fretboard. Only Scott's gloves work well and allow slippage.
  6. Definitely: Barefaced https://barefacedaudio.com/ or GR Bass https://www.grbass.com/ Also, a one speaker cab will always be lighter than a two speakers one because of the magnets.
  7. Happy Jack I follow this post with great interest because I am interested in a pedal similar to the ToneDexter but smaller: LRBaggs Voiceprint DI https://www.thomann.de/fr/l_r.baggs_voiceprint_di.htm And for the moment there is not much feedback on this type of product, and more especially coming from bass players. I play jazz on a big acoustic bass, Takamine TB10. https://www.thomann.de/en/takamine_tb10.htm. For your recordings, I particularly listened to the Zeller and the Kostein. If I understand correctly, when you say that the recording is bypassed, that means that the sound comes just from the microphone or pickup installed on the bass, compared with the recording modified by the Tonedexter which is therefore a mix of the two? Personally, so far and from what I've heard, it's not easy to hear if the difference in sound is important or not, especialy for the price of the pedal. Happy Jack, Thank’s for your recordings and I will follow this post with great interests to learn more about it. Alain
  8. I bought this strap: PolyLock Ernie Ball neoprene https://www.ernieball.fr/guitar-accessories/guitar-straps/polylock-guitar-straps#P04145 which doesn’t need the installation of strap locks. I'm very happy with it, very comfortable, a bit similar to the Gruv Gears with a center band and one on each side. Also I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Harley Benton Guitar Strap available from Thomann which for £14.30 makes a pretty good job: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_guitarstrap_padded_black.htm
  9. Playing always plugged on an amp, 0n my Takamine TB10, I used the La Bella 760N Black Nylon Tape which sound really great. You could give a try: https://www.thomann.de/fr/la_bella_black_nylon_760n.htm And I would have kept them if my strings were not quite high from the fingerboard, so I found the gauge to be a bit too strong, so I put Thomastik JF344 low tension which sound great too and I keep them. To minimize the cost of changing strings, I bought this small ultra sound machine to clean them from time to time. It doesn't make them new, but it looks like they have been around for a month. https://www.amazon.fr/iTronics-Nettoyeur-Professionnel-Inoxydable-approfondi/dp/B01D148KGC
  10. Empress Para Eq : 30 db + parametric Eq, If you search for a clean sound https://empresseffects.com/products,
  11. The FBRK is interesting because of its adjustable seatbelt but the textile seems less elastic than the neoprene.
  12. There is an American luthier who remakes that type of bass and guitars, surely better than the originals one which were made by the Eko brand. These ‘Teardrop’ instruments are really nice. http://www.phantomguitars.com/teardrop.html
  13. Thank's Doddy for the info about Ergo Straps. More expensive than the Gruv Gear. Currently I'm using the Gruvgear Solo Strap Neo in 2.5” cause 4” are too large for me, too close form my neck and have a tendency to hurt it.
  14. Has anyone ever used the one strap offered by Scott Devin, and can compare it with the Gruvgear eg.
  15. There must be other wireless systems that accept the high impedance of piezo pickups for double basses. Following my problems with the Xvive I also bought the Smoothhound which I am happy with. It is just bigger than the Xvive. And to power it I bought this battery: https://www.thomann.de/en/rockboard_lt_xl_power_bank_rg.htm
  16. Contacted, Xvive in China asks me 100 € transport included to change the battery or offers me to buy a new one. Luckily there is an internet link from a guy who explains how to change the battery yourself. I did it but you have to be meticulous. The battery can be ordered in China for less than £ 10. They would have put some screws in it , we could do it easily.
  17. The probleme with the Xvive is that it's very hard to change the battery when after 2 or 3 years it 's dead. Spending more than 100 £ for a 2 or 3 years wireless system is not a good deal.
  18. For Xvive users, there is a link that explains how to change the battery, but it's a bit tricky. I opened mine by following the video. I ordered the batteries on the net but not yet received it.
  19. It last 2 or 3 years for 115 pounds. It's not a bargain. And planned obsolescence. Contacted, Xvive in china asks me 100 pounds to change the battery which costs around 7 pounds both on the net. Xvive sound good but is not intersting.
  20. Xvive is not a good solution. Once the battery is off, you cannot change it, and you can put your xvive to the trash. Prefer units with screws that can let you be abble to open it and change the battery.
  21. How do they sound amped ? On vidéos, there is always a mic in front of the bass. What about the internal system ? Good or bad ?
  22. I have the Thomastik JF 344 on my Takamine TB 10, as the action is quite high, I like the low tension, gives me an old school double bass style sound.
  23. I have the Xvive and I must say that it is difficult to change the battery when it is dead (after 3 years). Contacted, Xvive asks me 100 € to change the battery which costs less than 10 € on the net. Here is a video link to change the battery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w4pBKW8vjk You have to be meticulous. I dismantled mine and will order 2 batteries. But I also finally ordered a Smoothhound. Prefer to buy a system with screws, not sealed.
  24. I contact the manufacturer, let him a mail and …… No answers 💤
  25. Well Hellzero, it's just an advice. If that can help. 😀
