  1. I'll agree that the NuTube clip I found was a pleasing sound. The AC4? clip was not as clear but the amp had a little 'something' that was pleasant but a single ended Class A amp can't take you much past a practice amp and limited at that. My own experiments into small pre-amps involves a journey into wire in double triodes. I've designed the unit but have yet to assemble it. Possibly a project for the fall.
  2. Just remember this "Sunn' is not the Sunn of days of yore. There's no connection to the original company.
  3. I won't deal with Carvin in any guise now. When they closed the company they basically voided all the warrantees I had on the stuff I had bought from them. I had bought a lot of stuff! Luckily none of the equipment has failed me.
  4. These amps are basically just practice amps for home use at best. You cannot reasonably expect to gig with any of them in any kind of a venue. Read BFM's post again.
  5. As the OP last visited on December 01 2021 I'm afraid your query fell on deaf ears. Sorry!
  6. Maybe give Barefaced a call they just might be able to help you out.
  7. @Bill Fitzmaurice Y'know Bill, I have been reading your posts both here and the dreaded TalkBass for many years. I, for one, appreciate the time and effort you invest to help folks with their loudspeaker problems. Thank you sir for what you do.
  8. My power amp was made by a company called Carvin here in North America. They also built my six string basses and I built a five string from their parts. Unfortunately there seemed to be a squabble with in the owners family after he passed away. The company is pretty much gone now. The reason I went tubes was that I like designing with them.. They were current technology when I went to school. That was a few years ago!
  9. I use a 2KW capable Class D Stereo power amp as the backbone of my bass rig. I built a tube pre-amp to drive it and if required FOH. In its four space SKB case I can easily lift it with two fingers. . What you're suggesting is, in my mind, overkill. That said to each his/her own.
  10. Personally considering the amps you already own I would just go with what you have. If you don't want the amplifier's pre-amps contribution to your overall sound then just plug your effects into the Return jack.
  11. Maybe they were dirty photos!! LOL
  12. Indeed it is if only you could ignore the traffic on the QEW!
  13. If the input jack is board mounted you could try reflowing the connections to that board. Could be your fiddling about inside the chassis has jolted a bad connection to working again.
  14. I remember Dave Green from the time I was allowed to participate on TalkBass. I was kicked off for trying to warn my friends what a certain ex president was trying to do. I miss those friends though I catch up with some of them here so I'm glad about that. As for Dave's designs, I never got to try any of them but I remember they were held in high regard.
  15. The youngest of our four brothers and his wife are visiting next week from Liverpool. He's renting a car and will be driving to see the city and the Falls. I'm scared stiff about him driving in our country but he IS a big lad now so he knows best!
  16. A faulty ground can cause all sorts of weird and wonderful effects. @dpaulb did you try plugging into the Return jack? If the hum stops then the problem lies within the pre-amp circuitry.
  17. To me it's just a Buch of equipment using old, out of date technology. No interest whatsoever.
  18. You're supposed to be a bass player who should not be playing leads!
  19. Over here we run the gauntlet: Lexus, Honda, in fact almost all foreign high end imports including Porsche and Tesla. They all seem to think that road rules don't apply to them especially speed limits!
  20. He's even more awesome than you know. Whist giving all the great advice that he does he's hanging upside down on the bottom of the planet!! LOL
  21. Whereever your combo leads you must follow!
  22. Come now, not everybody can be as smart as me!
  23. My first exposure to a Rumble came when I attended a jam at a local bar. I was really impressed by the way the amp handled the Low B of my six string bass.
  24. So the question is: Are we ready to Rumble?
  25. This is not a Class D problem per se but 'dirty power' affects all amplifier Classes. Over the last sixty years I have experienced the same kind of interference many times in four different countries.
