How's about a link to the video?

It doesn't matter how good an amplifier is if the 'packaging' fails in normal use. The knob problem should have been discovered and rectified during initial testing of the prototypes.

The 'Top Boost' AC30 was/is arguably one of the best guitar amps ever built. Yes all AC30 amps weighed a ton! LOL

Eden World Tour WTDI Preamp Pedal; analogue or digital?
BassmanPaul replied to Bornin1980something's topic in Amps and Cabs
Back in the Sixties in my Telephone days there was a triple Darlington circuit that was supposed to monitor a line and engage a relay if a phone was lifted. It didn't work! I realized that the ACY17 Germanium transistors had far too much leakage to ever work. I sent in an Electrical Change Order to Head office suggesting a silicon substitute and they agreed and provided BFX30 to replace them. I was left with a whole bunch of these ACY17s. I built a fuzz box for my guitarist of the time and he loved it. I think that I might still have a few of them in my stash of gash semiconductors. LOL -
Eden World Tour WTDI Preamp Pedal; analogue or digital?
BassmanPaul replied to Bornin1980something's topic in Amps and Cabs
I always found it kinda ironic that all my playing career I was trying to get away from the distortions I was getting from my tube amplifiers. It took me a while but eventually I succeeded in sounding like a bass and not a low tuned guitar. LOL -
All I can add is a simple 'Way to Go' from over the pond!

Enjoy your new toy! It's great when a project comes together properly/

Back in the Sixties I borrowed an AC30B the bass version of the AC30. I was not expecting much from it but I needed an amp to play the gig. Much to my pleasant surprise the thing filled the Silver Blades Ice Rink in Liverpool. It was a sloped stage and the amp was walking down the stage but it handled everything my EB2 could throw at it!

I'll agree that the NuTube clip I found was a pleasing sound. The AC4? clip was not as clear but the amp had a little 'something' that was pleasant but a single ended Class A amp can't take you much past a practice amp and limited at that. My own experiments into small pre-amps involves a journey into wire in double triodes. I've designed the unit but have yet to assemble it. Possibly a project for the fall.

Just remember this "Sunn' is not the Sunn of days of yore. There's no connection to the original company.

Thoughts needed on pre-amp / power amp rigs vs a head
BassmanPaul replied to Nickthebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I won't deal with Carvin in any guise now. When they closed the company they basically voided all the warrantees I had on the stuff I had bought from them. I had bought a lot of stuff! Luckily none of the equipment has failed me. -
These amps are basically just practice amps for home use at best. You cannot reasonably expect to gig with any of them in any kind of a venue. Read BFM's post again.

As the OP last visited on December 01 2021 I'm afraid your query fell on deaf ears. Sorry!

Maybe give Barefaced a call they just might be able to help you out.

What 1" compression tweeter and crossover unit should I put in my cab?
BassmanPaul replied to Dev R's topic in Amps and Cabs
@Bill Fitzmaurice Y'know Bill, I have been reading your posts both here and the dreaded TalkBass for many years. I, for one, appreciate the time and effort you invest to help folks with their loudspeaker problems. Thank you sir for what you do. -
Thoughts needed on pre-amp / power amp rigs vs a head
BassmanPaul replied to Nickthebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
My power amp was made by a company called Carvin here in North America. They also built my six string basses and I built a five string from their parts. Unfortunately there seemed to be a squabble with in the owners family after he passed away. The company is pretty much gone now. The reason I went tubes was that I like designing with them.. They were current technology when I went to school. That was a few years ago! -
Thoughts needed on pre-amp / power amp rigs vs a head
BassmanPaul replied to Nickthebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use a 2KW capable Class D Stereo power amp as the backbone of my bass rig. I built a tube pre-amp to drive it and if required FOH. In its four space SKB case I can easily lift it with two fingers. . What you're suggesting is, in my mind, overkill. That said to each his/her own. -
Thoughts needed on pre-amp / power amp rigs vs a head

Personally considering the amps you already own I would just go with what you have. If you don't want the amplifier's pre-amps contribution to your overall sound then just plug your effects into the Return jack. -
Indeed it is if only you could ignore the traffic on the QEW!

I remember Dave Green from the time I was allowed to participate on TalkBass. I was kicked off for trying to warn my friends what a certain ex president was trying to do. I miss those friends though I catch up with some of them here so I'm glad about that. As for Dave's designs, I never got to try any of them but I remember they were held in high regard.
