One other thing is never forget to switch the amp to the 2.67Ω position when using all three cabinets. Forgetting to do so will cause the demise of your amplifier. In your place I would just leave it at 2.67Ω position even when using just one or two of the cabinets. It may not be quite as loud but I feel it will still be loud enough for most gigs and your amplifier will be safer that way.

I always loved JBL drivers. I still have a 2225 and a 2226 in boxes in my workshop. I should get round to using them one day. LOL

Most of my amplifiers are happy at 2Ω. LOL My recovery from open heart surgery was so slow and I was champing at the bit to do more. Easy does it when healing from an assault on your body even if it fixes a problem. I trust the recovery is going well.

One thing you can say is that Peavey has always put out good sounding and reliable equipment!

For interest I took a stroll through my book of amplifier schematics. I was somewhat surprised at how many Sunn amps used the dreaded transistor somewhere in the circuit. Reverb driver in one and tremolo in another. LOL

This bears out all I have heard about the company.

Then do as @Woodinblack suggests and try changing out the tube. It's likely an ECC83/12AX7 an inexpensive tube available widely. I'll bet your local music store has a few in stock.

When I first came across this thread I assumed that FMC referred to Fender Music Corp. May I take this opportunity to apologize to Hans for insulting his products.

I would simply return the amp and get another unit. You could try contacting Ashdown. I hear they are very responsive to problems with any of their products.

Did the noise persist with no cable connected?

Unplug the input cable and try again. If it still does it it's the amp. If not it's the cable or what is attached to that cable.

Interesting that the tube offering uses Dynaco transformers. Back in the day several amp companies used Dynaco parts. When I first came to the Toronto area I took a job in the service department of a high end HiFi store to get the family through the winter. Via the store a side job emerged assembling dynaco kits. LOL.

But he's using the dreadful 4x10 and 1x15 pairing. It shouldn't be allowed! In an actual on stage use the 15 is greatly left behind by the more able 4x10 and eventually fails. BTW Thank you for taking the time and effort to post that link.

It doesn't matter how good an amplifier is if the 'packaging' fails in normal use. The knob problem should have been discovered and rectified during initial testing of the prototypes.

The 'Top Boost' AC30 was/is arguably one of the best guitar amps ever built. Yes all AC30 amps weighed a ton! LOL

Back in the Sixties in my Telephone days there was a triple Darlington circuit that was supposed to monitor a line and engage a relay if a phone was lifted. It didn't work! I realized that the ACY17 Germanium transistors had far too much leakage to ever work. I sent in an Electrical Change Order to Head office suggesting a silicon substitute and they agreed and provided BFX30 to replace them. I was left with a whole bunch of these ACY17s. I built a fuzz box for my guitarist of the time and he loved it. I think that I might still have a few of them in my stash of gash semiconductors. LOL

I always found it kinda ironic that all my playing career I was trying to get away from the distortions I was getting from my tube amplifiers. It took me a while but eventually I succeeded in sounding like a bass and not a low tuned guitar. LOL
