    @squire5 Did you contact the manufacturer? in my mind that's the first step you should have taken. Bit late now on the weekend but you should give them a call on Monday.

    The first amp I ever used had an 18" Goodmans. The first amp I ever bought, a VOX AC50 with its matching Foundation cabinet also used an 18. Both were very, very poor for use with a bass guitar. I currently own four B2 2x10s by Acme. These reproduce the Low B of my five and six string instruments with ease.

    If your mains are only meant for vocals then putting a bass through them would not be healthy for them.

    I see it could be read either way. LOL However it would be easier, faster and cheaper to change the grille cloth on the amp itself.

    Forgive my curiosity but where would you play that would need a 6x10 and a 2x12? That's a lot of driver area and only 100W to drive them. Are you saying that the grille cloth on the 6x10 doesn't match that on the V4B? Edit: BTW we have a Grimsby over here in Ontario. It's a bit south of Toronto on the way to Niagara Falls.

    I just wonder if the PA Mains are able to handle bass at volume. If not all else is moot.

    My advice stays the same. If you want the unit repaired properly it needs to go to a tech. You'll just have to find one somewhere near your area. In my time I have repaired hundreds of amplifiers. The most difficult repairs have been those whose owners have tried to fix themselves. Undoing the mess that those owners left behind were a nightmare!

    If you want the amp repaired take the thing to a proper tech for service. Anything you try o do to fix the amp will likely make matters worse and more expensive to remedy.

    A pair of 2x10s, Acme B2, are what I use. I guess I should say did as I no longer play. In a vertical '4x10' configuration they worked really well.

    With all due respect this is a copout. You are, in essence, downloading what is your responsibility to someone else. What do you do if the PA fails? Are you just going to go home and say 'Ah well'? As for the awful pairing of a 4x10 and a less able 1x15, BFM answered that very ably, as always. LOL

    Is there no place you can try the Darkglass amp to see if it suits your tonal needs?

    Hammond has a range of EI OPTs and power transformers to match them. That too could be an avenue to follow.

    Just as a suggestion Plitron, now apparently known as Noratel, market a range of toroid transformers, both Mains and OPT, for audio use. Perhaps the new amp could use these.

    That depends on how they are used. There are amps that use EL34s and sound like trash. There are amps that use them and are wonderful.

    To get 100W out of a pair of KT88 you would need in the region of 600V HT/B+. That's a lot of voltage. Still it's doable!

    One other thing is never forget to switch the amp to the 2.67Ω position when using all three cabinets. Forgetting to do so will cause the demise of your amplifier. In your place I would just leave it at 2.67Ω position even when using just one or two of the cabinets. It may not be quite as loud but I feel it will still be loud enough for most gigs and your amplifier will be safer that way.
