Sorry, missed that. I’d maybe contact Thomann just to confirm that they are the Beatle Bass length strings, although I’m pretty sure it’s the text that’s wrong, it would not be the first time that their own, added descriptions are off (lots of cut & paste methinks). Just Order them and if they’re the wrong length, send them back. This is a section from the Thomann page for the HB Beatle Bass recommendations, albeit a different gauge…

I think the text added by Thomann is incorrect there, as the packaging says for Beatle Bass. I’d just buy them from Bass Direct to avoid any confusion, same price IIRC.

Because GAS and the irrationality that goes with it. ‘Twas ever thus, sadly.

Don’t be put off by the gauge on those LaBellas. I normally use 45-100, but my 35” Rob Allen is fitted with the 760n set and they feel no tighter. I have a set of 750n on another bass and they feel a bit too thin; weird.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more happy to be corrected. Cheers! 🙏 -

Setting up a P Bass, Action and Nut Slots

I do relief by feel/eye. I do a tap test holding down the E string at the 1st and 15th fret. I know what I’m listening for, for what I want. I’ll also test to see if I’ve overdone it by play an open A and pulling back on the headstock slightly and waiting for the fret buzz. Again, a feel thing. Not very scientific, but it works for me. -
Yes, normally, these days. The backup stays in the gig bag. In my last band I used 2 basses for different songs, so had a backup by default, rather than by design.

Last year has affected me badly it seems. I’ve been looking at stuff, but keep rationalising the GAS away. It’s not natural I tell you!

Who are the top session bassists in London?
ezbass replied to Vanheusen77's topic in General Discussion
The good Lady Ez, once again, got me with something similar. I was trying out a guitar in the basement of Chandlers in Kew, she wasn’t interested and went for a walk. She came back and met up with me in the shop. She said, “I knew it was you playing,” she could plainly hear me in the basement and I was obviously playing Eric Johnson’s SRV as a test piece, unfortunately for her, she’d had to put up with me learning it for weeks. Oh well, at least it wasn’t Stairway . -

Ooh, that stings. Back when I just played guitar, my nephew, who I had shown some stuff to, when he first started out, picked up one of my guitars for a noodle. Lady Ez said something similar to the above to me. I felt very deflated (I knew it to be true, but you don’t want it pointed out ). -

I totally agree. Suggesting that he try and retrieve the cost from someone else makes it even worse for me. Not only is it sneaky and duplicitous, the arrogance is gobsmacking.

TBH, I felt flattered to be asked to play by someone who had enjoyed some celebrity (albeit very minor compared to his contemporaries) and got caught up in it a bit. Fortunately, the older, possibly more cynical, me doesn’t wear rose tinted spectacles for long and won’t put up with things that I would have even 10 years ago.

Actually, I did a lot of my day job, back then (since retired) and others before, for nothing, as did a lot of my colleagues. I’m not sure that this guy didn’t have a daytime occupation at the time too. My gigs were/are a supplement, so still count as a job of sorts. In addition, rehearsals are part of the cost of doing business, like commuting costs and consumables.
