1. As ever, a super divisive list to ghast one's flabber. Fill your boots, http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-drummers-of-all-time-20160331
  2.
If you'd described that to me I'd have not been impressed. When you see it, though...
The lack of gloss certainly tones down the bling factor, whilst still being something a bit special. I have to say, the mixing of a J bass and a 'Ray really works. I don't know why I'm surprised, as they are two proven, classic designs; why wouldn't a mash up work?
  3.
I'd love a Precision style (Jake?) with that finish. Really nice.
All things are possible it seems and therein lies the danger with these guys
  4.
Love the muted finish on this.
Yeah, me too and Mrs Ez (she rarely comments on these things, so that's a big thumbs up in reality). The satin finish makes it less blingy and coffee table like whilst still being a nice piece of timber. I fitted some EB cobalt flatwounds today and adjusted the set up, now it's spot on . I can hardly wait to use it in anger.
  5.
Ok, it's here, not doing an NBD yet as it wouldn't be fair. It seems to have arrived with a bit of a back bow as it's choking like crazy and buzzing like an angry bee, and the action is way too low but the bridge Saddles seem ok. So, I need to figure out the whole truss rod thing. If its a bottom of neck truss rod which way do you turn it to raise the strings? First pickup test is good but difficult to say for sure cos of the buzzing.
I just adjusted my truss rod as I've fitted some EB flatwound cobalts to my new bass; it needed a little tighten due to the slightly increased tension. I adjusted in the normal way, turning to the right the counteract the forward pull, checked still needed a bit more tension, checked again - hang on, the relief was getting bigger! It seems that the adjustment is the reverse way round from what I'm used to on all the other basses I've owned, with turning to the left (when viewed from the bridge) reducing the relief. Perhaps this will help with your current buzzing issues.
  6. I 'like' the way he's trying to sue the ROH. Surely it's the brass players who are to blame . Orchestras are loud beasts based purely on the numbers involved and someone has to sit next to the brass section. He should've taken preventative steps (earplugs) to lessen the chance of damage, just like lots of us already do. At least that's the argument the defence team will make. This overly litigious society we find ourselves in annoys me greatly.
  7.
Nice! The more I read Maruszcyk NBDs the more I want to order one
Resistance is futile
  8. Time for an update. An eclectic threesome:
  9.
That looks amazing!
Thanks, it doesn't sound too shabby either.
  10.
Holy Sh1t Balls
That me me LOL, literally
  11.
Look at that Bet that's damn parpy with the pickup positioned there... Great score Bet it feels worth the wait now...
Yes, very MM like, although it's a bit closer to bridge due to the scale reduction. TBH 10/11 weeks is nothing; I bow down to your amazing patience with your builds.
  12.
I have to admit, I'd have loved to have seen a video of Adrian demonstrating mine the way it was set up when it arrived... .. "And that's the sound!" *crunch* *buzz* *ping* Buzz* *ffffffffzzzz*
The action on mine was a little lower than I normally have straight out of the box, but even after just a couple of hours it's settling down more towards my normal height. I'll tweak it later tonight or tomorrow.
  13. It's been a tense couple of days watching the FedEx tracker, but the new beast has landed! It's a Maruszczyk Elwood L custom build. The specs are: Chambered alder J style body with flame maple top; satin finish 3 over 1 MM style headstock 41mm nut width 33" scale length Maple neck with lined ebony fingerboard Bassculture MM style p/up Passive electronics (vol, tone, 3 way selector [series/parallel/single coil]) Black hardware inc D Tuner Weight approx 6lbs So it's a Jazz meets Stingray or, if you will, a Stingjay or 'Jay bass OK, OK. It has a really nice mid-centric tone in series (as you'd expect) with the parallel and single coil tones being quieter and lighter in tone (both very similar). There is potential for the adding of an active circuit, but I'm (currently) a big fan of passive. The neck is slim which belies its P/'Ray nut width; really easy to play. A touch head heavy on the knee, but perfectly balanced on the strap. Adrian at Public-Peace told me he has made a video of it and, as soon as that is available, I'll post it here. Right enough of this, I'm off for more playing action!
  14. NBD!!!!!! Details to follow. Something to whet you appetite. NBD thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/282168-nbd-maruszczyk-content/page__pid__3016426#entry3016426
  15.
European tour?
It's still there, apparently. EDIT: Local facility 8:50, that's just 6 miles away. It's going to be a long day. EDIT2: Out for delivery 9:06
  16. I always check any new bass or guitar for set up. 99% of the time I'll need to adjust something or other. Very rare is it that something is right for me straight out of the box. Speaking of which, my new Elwood is apparently at Stanstead Airport, not that I've been checking you understand
  17.
Sounds like a good choice ! Pictures are of course are politely insisted upon
Yup, you know the rules, no pics = never happened
  18. I had a 4 string Basic P/M. Cracking build quality and hardware. I only sold it as I was going all 5 string. Guess what I'm currently doing; going back to 4!
  19.
Your are quite right. The perils of trying to use a phone for bass chat instead of a proper computer... More photos of the original Strat in question can be found here.
I knew I'd seen that mod before.
  20. Mark Egan thinks they're OK, that's a pretty sound endorsement. EDIT: unintended pun
  21.
Wednesday morning BUMP for the most excellent Fender bass ever!
Fixed How is this still here?
  22. Typical, the year I decide not to go and....
Lots of double basses
Probably just as well
  23. Exciting times...
  24.
If its a bottom of neck truss rod which way do you turn it to raise the strings?
Looking at it from the bridge, righty tighty, lefty loosey. You'll want to go left to counteract the back bow (letting the strings pull the head up). However, any buzzing beyond the 9th/10th fret will be down to the saddles being too low.
  25. That's just greedy, hand over one of those to me immediately, you'll thank me in the long run.
