  1. I’d be interested in what you’d have to say about the 414 into a Sad pre if you had/have a Sad pedal pre. Putting my 2 passive Maruszczyks through an SBP2 pedal makes them come alive and they weren’t exactly ’dead’ to start with. For something that, on paper, only adds boost @ 40hz and 4Khz, it’s an amazing circuit.
  2. The white ones look lush to my eyes and no 'fingerprint magnet' issues to contend with (albeit less rawk 🤘).
  3. Currently: Gold by Spandau Ballet, Tear a Your Playhouse Down by Paul Young (I trip over the 16th note outro part though ☹️), Spirit of Radio by Rush. Seeing @Japhet’s post reminds me that I must relearn Haitian Divorce, always enjoyed that, along with Josie.
  4. He’ll never get anywhere with that tatty, old lump of wood and that technique. 😂
  5. I’m not sure. Daft thing is I can remember the first thing I learnt on guitar some 50ish years ago - Teach Your Children, CSNY (although I learnt it incorrectly). On bass, I’ve come to the instrument twice (the first time I started in the ‘80s a band suddenly needed a guitarist and back I went to the 6 stringed beast) the first time around it was probably Paul Young’s ‘Hat’ or Come Back and Stay (I assume we mean songs all the way through). Second time, I think it was either Santana’s Smooth or Thin Lizzy’s Waiting for an Alibi, closely followed by Hotel California. Guitarist magazine did transcriptions and backing tracks for various tunes and I had those waiting to be learnt (I never bothered to learn them for guitar).
  6. Another Sarf Lunnoner here (more ‘burbs these days though). Stacks of help and info here and not just about bass gear and music.
  7. I’m turning the clock back to 1976, what an album.
  8. Much nicer pics and a much nicer price than available in Guildford.
  9. If you do buy something, you still won’t be using it and will spend all the time up until you do use it wondering if you’ve done the right thing (probably only to find you’re missing the Fender too). You need to wait until you’re playing again before you make rig decisions. You don’t have GAS as such, you’re just bored. If you must, buy a pedal of some description, perhaps an amp simulator. EDIT: I apologise for what seems to be an eminently sensible post. I know this flies in the face of the BC GAS credo. ☺️
  10. Can we all just calm down a bit, please? So many threads are becoming slanging matches from out of nowhere. I like to follow threads that I’ve contributed to, but so many recently have descended into madness. It makes me sad. 😢
  11. One of my favourite bass lines in terms of tone and musicality is The Real Me by The Who, with The Ox absolutely nailing it in every way. However, I heard the isolated part some time back and I was horrified, I really disliked the tone, so much distortion and yuck, but in the mix - sublime.
  12. I’ve don’t really recall many prices, but that sounds about right. Have a search through the for sale section. Of course, we shouldn’t be buying with selling in mind, but this is Basschat 😂.
  13. I think the danger is having too many bells and whistles that the final product is less than the sum of its parts. For my custom builds, I took bass designs that I liked, but were lacking in some way for my own, personal tastes and corrected those anomalies. Doesn't stop me tweaking with them though (a thumb rest here, a knob change there) after years of ownership.
  14. I don't think she's alone, Lady Ez is much the same, although she will often put voice to it too. 😂
  15. Off the shelf, the main difference between standard Elwoods (Jazz) and Jakes (Precision) and their Fender counterparts, would be nut width. Both come (normally) with 40mm widths - wider than a Jazz, narrower than a Precision. However, as @Woodinblack points out, most things are possible with a Maruszczyk, including neck profile. My Jake and 2 Elwood Ls are chambered, lightweight instruments. The Elwoods are 33” scale, have 41mm nut widths and Delano pickups. Not standard Fender features (for the record, I have owned numerous Fender Ps and Js in the past). Should you take the plunge? It depends on your requirements, which might include resale value, where Fender will always be better bang for buck.
  16. Lurking in the shadows didn’t put you off then? 😂 Good bunch of folk here, always happy to help with anything from bass, to spreadsheets, to plumbing and all stops in between.
  17. Age is nothing, you’re playing, that’s what counts. Sorry to hear about injury causing a change of bass, but on the upside you’re now bang on trend with regard to scale length.
  18. Can you imagine the 💩 storm that would arise if one had the temerity to suggest that a guitar part was very busy?
  19. You got me thinking and... it's back! Must have more pre-amps 😂 I'll come up with another mute/tuning solution.
  20. The reverse neck sounds so much more even across the string and the reverse bridge is far less ‘wirey’ sounding to my ears. A video best listened to and not looked at 😂.
  21. Inspired by this thread and being a long standing CPC customer, I ordered some replacement solder, flux paste and three of these bad boys. 1mm wider than the previously fitted dome knobs, but that really makes them feel more premium (could be the new kit placebo effect though).
