1.
Afraid I'll have to burst your bubble on that one. Correctly, the B&G I and II were limited versions of the SB-R60 and 80, as these B&G versions first appeared in an APII catalogue printed in Japan in early '83 alongside the R60 and 80 models, although the B&G I and II were conceived and first put into production in '82. The R60 and 80 weren't renamed Elite I and II until late '83. There again got to cure another misapprehension you're labouring under, that the R60 and 80 and Elite I and II are different models. This is not the case. These are the same models - the R60 and 80, first introduced in '81, were renamed when APII repositioned many of its models by converting from letter and number designations to descriptor designations in '83. And when suggested that the B&G I was a version of the SB700, that was completely correct - the SB-R models, formulated for the US market, featured 18mm spacing at the bridge and a 40mm nut width as opposed to 16mm spacing at the bridge and a 45mm nut width found on the original SB models, but otherwise were technically the equivalent of the then current SB models. The bass for sale is a nice example of the B&G I from the first full year of production.
Yeah, wot 'e said! BB
2.
You have the funniest avatar on the forum!!
+1 BB
3. That would have made it an SB-R60 which they didn't do in this finish, an SB1000 would have the rotary tone setting. Basically this is an Elite-I done in Black and Gold - hence the name Still very nice. BB
4. That is one nice bass my friend! Dont see too many 5 string XPs at all. Had it been a four........ Best of luck with the sale. BB
5. I begged big scary IT manager at work for an internet login and password even tho my lowly drone position doesn't merit it. Shocked he actually gave me one without too many questions so now i can sneak off for BC peek when things are quiet. And I am only at work 3 days a week !! Addicted? Meh!! BB
6. had an SBR60 - which is a SB700 with a slightly wider neck - loved it but had a bit of a cull and that went only cos it was passive. If I was replacing it I would defintely go for the SB1000 I like them cos they are iconic in a way, they are not copies of anything and no-one has done copies of them, if u see wot i mean. If u want the SB experience it has to be an Aria SB. There is/was a fretless one at Oxford Guitar Gallery. EDIT - which is nowhere near Cornwall, sorry Cheers BB
7. I would swear it was a Futurama - but which one??? BB
8.
Aye maybe you are right Leo, I will have a serious ponder about. The trouble is if i have a lump sum in the bank it will dwindle away, I know myself from old! Cheers
Well said! I have a 'war chest' reserved for the right Steiny XL2A (if it ever comes along) but I get seriously tempted by other things all the time (like this for instance ) Also worse than that it could fritter away bit by bit on nothing at all really and then your Holy Grail is gauranteed to suddenly appear for sale somewhere. Sods Law, innit? BB
9. There are two Overwater perceptions in the for sale forum hovering about the £600 mark and no-ones buying - so who would buy a 'copy' at £800. Thru neck one went on evilBay at 'only' £900 recently (2.5k new) Not sure what I'm trying to say here. BB
10. That looks fantastic. Never seen one like that before either. Not sure about the black (coated?) strings Would there be any custom charges due within the EU on this? Best of luck. BB
11. I thought Overwater already did some assembly in Czeck(?) Republic. i think that is a more likely place for Wal to set up shop. BB
12.
Because everyone loves Snoopy: Jon.
Then why aren't they Peanuts...............sorry! BB
13. as far gear is concerned 99% of the great unwashed public (God Bless 'em) couldn't tell my gear from the guiturdist' gear so do different types of basses and stuff only make u look cool, windswept and interesting to other musos? I also think it depends what area of the 'business' ur in - in some sections there can be and is total triumphs of Style over Substance if ur talking appearances. OTPJ says an odd thing ".....as long as I look professional etc...I dont care what anyone thinks" unless ur looking in the mirror that implies you do care what people think. Sorry if thats a misquote but my copy and pasting's gone right out the window. But as far as gear goes I couldn't play an ugly bass but then an ugly bass like a EB3 (to me) can still loook 'cool' it's just not for me BB
14. I really have to take issue with the OP on this one! Listen very carefully to what I am about to say...........40 IS NOT OLD!!!!!!! Cheeky young pup! BB
15. These are thin on the ground in the s/h market recently - only one I've came across is on evilBay ans seems a tad overpriced Here There is a USA(?) one in the for sale forum but that was mis described and not cheap IMO Cheers BB
16. Still loving this.............................. Having poked about Steinberger world web site and others - the XL2A looked the same but controls would be Vol, Bal(?) and centre notched Bass boost and bass cut? I believe the 2 i had were XL2As but does anyone know if an active circuit is available to convert an XL2 to an XL2A? Cheers BB
17.
Better eyes than me I did look for a date but to no avail .. So where's the OP one?
Yep, that's the one - sorry about lack of link - tho doesnt matter as it is well out of date I couldnt see the date either when I first found it. I shall go and thrash my own buttocks for wasting everyones time. BB
18. Found this when snooping round t'internet - seems a current ad but that is really good for a Fodera tho' when i click on the pics they wont open BB
19.
..... they're very difficult to come across.
Unfortunate choice of words methinks.......... BB
20. and HERE BB
21.
Where can these be had for "about £300"?
HERE BB
22. A Celica?? Is that the little sports one? I'm impressed!!! BB
23.
Ahh that explains it. I was in the guitar shop today and saw what I though was one of these new ones - Delux Natural Jazz bass, US, 22 frets, 4 knobs, including a stack. However the bodies were tiny, down sized headstock and the strap peg wasn't over the 12th fret .... Didn't try one but it looked, er, different. That must have been the older model.
What shop was it in and would they have a website? The only shop i know in Cardiff is Cranes and their site shows a couple of nice 70's Jazzes I am intrigued by these smaller bodied Fender Jazzes. BB
24. I also notice they have the Assymetrical neck design idea the same as Tobias basses - I think they may be well worth a punt Also unusual to have ebony boards on basses in this price range. BB
25. The body looks remarkably similair to the Pedulla RB range. BB
