1. All sorted now, thanks to those nice people at Warwick.....
2.
warwick streamer stage one pup placement is pretty much centred on the mm sweetspot...
S'funny because, to me, most of the songs he plays on sound more 'front p/up' almost 'P-bass' ish?
3. My Thumb bass is the same as above post. Ordered from factory, 18v 3 band circuit in main cavity & 3x9v for L.E.D's in another. Still working on uploading a picture... Think I might be in luck, Had a look on the updated Warwick website & have seen a part that looks a similar size. Just waiting for a confirmation e-mail back (fingers crossed).
4. Hi there Anybody out there able to help with this? The catch on my '96Thumb basses battery cavity for the neck L.E.D's has finally given up the ghost after 17 years.. It must be an M.E.C part, as all Warwicks cavity boxes are these days, I tried contacting Warwick about a replacement but they don't list a size for 3x9v batteries. Before I go down the 'Having a new lid routed' route, I wondered if anyone or any Luthiers on here might have one spare or know where I can get one from? Having trouble uploading a picture but will persevere....
5. My personal findings on phenolic fingerboards are that they are fine on 'inert' carbon necks offering a tone very similar to a good ebony fingerboard (any 'coldness' soundwise more due to the graphite neck itself), I like the tone personally. The only problem comes when a phenolic board is married to a wooden neck, that moves & shifts/warps, Unless a multi-laminate neck is used or graphite rod inserts, there will always be the danger of the neck shifting & the fingerboard not, causing lifting problems etc. I seem to recall Washburn Status's having this problem in the late 80's when they first come out?
6. Just to add a bit of confusion to the issue, I'm sure the 3 in certain era cabs referred to 300 watts handling? As these cabs (1153 & 2103) were sized to add to the existing combos as well...Anyone ever use a 1210 combo with an 1153? (tidy little stack). No mention of the 1810x or 1510x cabs yet either..18'' & 10'' with cross-over, 15 & 10 etc. Then there were the 'Multistack' wedges in 18,15 & 2x10''.
7. Hi there Recently joined another band concentrating on dance music (Think post-house music electronica/early '90's dance/Snap, Culture beat etc.)) & am looking for some help on effect/sounds to recreate these bass sounds. I appreciate the vast majority of bass sounds in this genre are keyboard based but was thinking along the lines of synth pedals/filters/fuzz boxes? I have a Boss GT6B & an original Line6 Basspod pro & have been toying with the synthbass functions on the GT6B with some 'dubbie' sounds coming from the pod but was wondering if a specific synth pedal might be a better option, something like the Markbass synth pedal perhaps? It's a bit out of my 'comfort zone' playing this style of music as I was never into it at the time but it makes a nice change as there seems to be plenty of work available...
8. Back in my murky past, I used to work for Status & built myself a series 2000 5 string in 1989/90 (serial number 0440) i had a green L.E.D installed next to the active/passive switch as a 'hark back' to the early series II 's... It was my first 5 string & had that classic Status 'Clang' about it soundwise & I nearly had a heart attack one day, when the gigbag i was transporting in to a rehearsal malfunctioned & it crashed to the ground chipping some lacquer on the top of the forearm chamfer, it spent the rest of its days in my possession with a piece of black tape hiding the chip... I PX'ed it in a moment of madness a few years later for my first Warwick in Ipswich, not that i regret getting the Warwick, just that I wished i'd kept the Status as well.. I've learnt my lesson since then, managing to keep most of my collection when a 'newbie' enters the fold!
9. First bass...Stagg Jazz bass copy with maple neck/block inlays & p/up covers Go to bass...Musicman Stingray 5 Your bass...Alembic Rogue 5
10. Sorry I'm probably too late but single H as nature intended!
11. Might i just add a congratulations to the new owner of this bass & wish them many happy years playing (it used to be MINE, until recently!). Play it healthy....
12. Hello out there Can anyone recommend a company that will rewind a MM stingray Pickup in the uk? I'm trying to restore my '87 stingray to its original glory. When i bought it 20 years ago the original pickup was noisy & crackling, someone suggested that some of the coil wraps were perhaps broken, so as soon as possible a Bartolini was put in place. I know Kent Armstrong used to do this sort of thing but just wondered if anyone knew of anyone else providing this service? & how much this would cost... Cheers in advance Steve
13. Try to play with people that you think are better than yourself Dont overplay unless asked (I like that one!) Look after your bass/gear The money's in the first 5 frets It's as much the notes you don't play Remember to breathe Play every gig like it was your last.... And remember, unless you're also the frontman/singing bass player it's only other muso's that are looking & judging you (& if they were 'that' good, why haven't they got a gig on the same night?) Sorry i've run out of cliches!
14.
Yes, all chrome.
After reading up a bit more, think i'll stick with looking for a std J-retro. Whilst the eq filters are good, i'm after that 'snappy marcus' slap sound for my jazz & want to be able to quickly dial that tone in. Good luck with your sale & have a bump from me....
15. Interested! is this the standard chrome finish?
16. About 5 years ago, After driving from essex to plymouth for a function at an army base, after finding that we had no food provided for the band, we left the base in search of a food establishment. After 2 attempts to get seated in pub restaurants (no drinks consumed!) we decided to head for the 'Muckdonalds' drive through. The pub we were leaving had a long walk around to the carpark to get back to the van or,as i thought, a quick leap over the 3' high beer garden fence into the car park. I went to leap first, caught my foot on the fence, crashed down sideways on my right elbow in the car park... Wondering why i had something pointing out of my arm i quickly realised the pain i was in, thankfully the royal plymouth hospital was close by & after checking into A & E discovered that i had shattered my elbow & broken my arm in 4 places. Needless to say i didn't make the gig that night! Breaking my arm was bad enough but i was more concerned about making sure my gear was packed up & returned to essex whilst i stayed at plymouth hospital...
17.
Just watched that gig on Sky Arts (Hammersmith Odeon -1985 ) myself - really enjoyed it. Haden't realised Norman Watt Roy played a Smith bass, in those days.
Think you might find it was an Alembic he was playing? Brilliant gig tho, would love to track down a DVD of that concert 'cos it didn't seem that long on tv....
18. 9 basses for me at the moment, 1 guitar, 1 Uke but always on the lookout for more..........I have fretless GAS currently...........
19. I love mine, but i find it's not a 'jack of all trades' bass tone-wise, It just sounds like an Alembic at the end of the day,The tone filter takes some getting used to, to begin with but the Bass & Treble cut/boost switches make for a nice tone, It's not that heavy either. As already stated, with the $ price being so strong against the £, I sometimes have to consider where to take mine at certain gigs. It is now my main 'Function' bass as i get some looks at pub gigs!
20.
I bet you probably worked on my original SII (#402) with the almost black rosewood top and light flashes. This bass was made in 1987 & I owned it from 1990 until 2006.
A lovely example of an original series II but unfortunately built before i joined ('89-'91). I'd definately remember having a hand in such a great looking bass as that.... I love the earlier models with the L.E.D for the active circuit, even my 2000 V had to have one in green!
21.
Hey Bassman68 - I used to live in Chelmsford in the 80s. Would "SS" be Steve Sutcliffe ?
Yes.............Steve was there & Greg when Status were based in Chelmsford, before they moved production to Witham. That's when i joined in '89 ( I was only there a couple of years tho..) I don't know what Steve is doing these days?
22.
I can join your merry gang now! The courier just delivered it today: the rather tasty fretless 5 string S2000. Serial number is 0435, can anybody shed some light on when it was manufactured?
Lovely 2000 5 string, reckon it's from the first batch in late '89 when production went entirely 'in-house' for 2000 mouldings (well saying that, the manufacturing process was the same as the series II, With a wooden core, set-in neck & graphite facings front & back. The join between wood & graphite being hidden by the black sunburst). I had #0440... If you look in the battery compartment, see if it has a signature in there, either SS or $L, if it's $L.......I made it!
23. Just down to my Pearl blue 3000 these days, altho it does have a series II circuit in it. Used to have a series 2000 V as well, One of the first few made in late '89 (circuit switch & green L.E.D) built it for myself when i worked for Rob. Sadly sold it back in '93 ( doh! ). Would love to track my old 2000 down or a nice series II 5 string......
24. Just a pity 'bout 'the pipe'!....................
25. You might also try the Corvette body shape as well. The longer top horn helps to distribute the weight. I prefer my Corvette proline over my Thumb NT when playing a long set although i suffer the Thumb for the clarity of tones & side LED's... Find a neck width that is comfortable for you as well when looking for a 5 string 'wick, I find they vary between certain models. My '96 Thumb bass is slimmer in profile than my '93 Proline although the Proline is thinner in depth.
