I was going to start a post to be first in line when Beedster decides to get rid of this hehe. Let me know when you do! Although, if this is bass heaven, congrats! It takes years, but I've no desire to buy another bass again... This bass is a steal Chris good on ya. Now, when can I grab that flight case!

Ebay's not really an accurate reflector of value per-sey. Look at how the vintage guitar market has been knocked sideways by this 'credit crunch' crap. I'd hold onto it for a few years until we're out of the recession. I think you'll struggle to get more than about £650 for it. They're so heavy, no-one could afford the postage!

I spoke to the guy about this, and he has said that I am more than welcome to come and look at the bass and perform any checks I like. It wouldn't be too hard to see whether this one was a 'good un' or a 'bad un'. On first impressions, I'd have concern about the finish, the covers and the straightness of the neck. Same as anything of this value (and age) you'd be daft not to go and check it out and take her to bits... I'd say the seller assumes it's genuine, but probably has no real idea of how to check that it is.

I used to use Hiwatt's and have had about 10 in my time Amazing amps, Queen, Led Zepp, The Who, everyone who played in the 70s had these. Examples can fetch anything from 400 to 800 depending on condition, the valves, transformers and additions. I won't bore you to death with the details (and believe me I could!), but I would advise advertising it for 800 and then working down. If it's a well kept, all original model don't take a penny less than 650. I would (from a purely mercenary sales perspective) advertise the flight case seperately as this will be worth 100 on its own. Cost me nigh on 300 to get 2 heads done properly before (not Flightcase Monkey Factoy) If you need more or a write up for ebay etc. let me know. I sold my last DR103 for 800, but the market has cooled somewhat after they have now been reissued.

The quote is asking whether, due to the basses 'rareness' (i.e. that they only made a few in a transitional period), is it actually of any value to collectors or is it just a bass cobbled together from odd bits in the factory and therefore a bit rubbish. I'd say it's not really collectible, and not really an investment, as it looks too much like the 80s basses from Fender which sucked, but with the bound and dotted board it really stands out to me as a great bass, and for playabilities sake is worth a go. Good thing is, the seller seems to know that, and apart from living in the 'Mare, seems ok It's not too different in construction planning from the slab-bodied mid 60s Precisions that Entwistle used to use. Mind you, there were only 19 of those, and it seems they all ended up with touring bands. T-Rex, the Who etc.
