1. I've got a nearly new edition of this fantastic book for sale. I'm not doing standards anymore... It's Volume 1. This is the book you want for standards/classics etc. My jazz days are behind me - had to hang up the tweed daddio! £14 delivered.
2. Hi all, I'm currently writing a book on Fender basses, which is going very well. A large part of the book is interviews with some great bass players and getting some of their reminisces, anecdotes, feelings and history about Fender guitars, what Fender means to them etc. It's a labour of love at the moment, but I know a number of publishers, so I'd hope that it goes somewhere. So, what I was going to ask was that if anyone on here has any contact with any famous, or not so famous Fender bass players that would be willing to be interviewed then please get in touch with me. It would take about 10 - 15 minutes, not much at all, or could be done via email. I've currently done about 10 interviews, but I need a fair few before I approach a publisher with the concept. Let me know if you have anyone that could help them PM me. Cheers, L
3. Bump again, would take less cash for it. I really need to get that tax bill paid by January 31st!!!
4. I've got the Jazz Bass brother to this beauty. The undercoat is silver sparkle, they moved to gold later on. It's a beautiful bass, the 66 ones are widely considered to be beautiful playing instruments - the equivalent of pre-CBS ones in my eyes. Seems a full price but what do I know? How much is my 66 worth now? The mind boggles.
5. And the bridge isn't original either. A 66 bridge would have had the pre=CBS style multi-ferruled bridge. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I've spent a pathetically long time with vintage Fender basses.
6. Sorry buddy, 'mocha' - the only original brown finish Fender offerred - was also introduced in 74. Fenders in 66' were either Sunburst or custom coloured, and brown wasn't a custom colour. Trust me.
7. It is a refinish - fender didn't offer a natural finish until 74.
8. Here are some pics, I'm going to reduce the price to £1500. Let me know if there's any interest!!!
9. That photo is terrible - sorry. Will get some better ones later if anyone is interested.
10. Hi all, This is my pride and joy but an arse clenchingly large tax bill and the impending, looming spectre of being jobless means I am considering shifting it. The bass is a 'frankenbass' and started off as a few models. Details of the parts are here: Body: 68 jazz, ligt as a feather, original sunburst and seriously worn. This was owned by Fender expert Barry Matthews, I bought it from him years ago with a 65 neck, some old pickups and a few odd bits on it. The bass was played by John Entwistle in the past, but I don't expect this to add to the value - I reckon most olf Fenders were! The body has been routed for a battery cavity at the back - there is no other routing, as you can see! Necl: This was a 74 neck from a bass owned by the legendary session bassist Dave Markee. He has the Fender 'skunk stripe' removed and the ebony board added. This bass was giged with Frank Zappa and a few other legends. It's an amazingly thin and precise neck. Dave Markee Bridge and Neck Plate - original 74 Pickups - Wizard vintage (sound amazing) Tuners - Original 74 Tone and volume pots - new replacements. All in all, this guitar means a lot to me. I wanted a Jaco signature but I wanted a vintage one, so I bought the parts and built it. It plays amazingly, is the only one of its kind and it breaks my heart to think of her going - but I've got my 66 candy apple red Fender, and that's the only one I actually play to be honest. I've had the guitar in literally hundreds of permutations over the years (scrathcplate on, off, with a skunk neck, a 65 neck a modern Geddy Lee neck blah blah) and in this incarnation is perfect. I don't have tons of pictures but could take some if anyone's interested. Not sure of value, in parts it has to be about £1600, or I could be mistaken. I'd take this for it, but I'm not interested in any trades or anything. Let me know if anyone is interested!
11. Hi mate, I went through the whole need to slim down the collection due to financial difficulties (see running your own business for f*cking you up financially). I now just have 2 guitars that I beg, stole and borrowed to get. At the end of the day, and after all the cr*p we talk about them, they're just bits of wood with bits of metal on them and they can be replaced. Start a savings account mate, and any spare money you have, get it in there. In no time at all (alright, took me 2 years) you'll have the £3,500 you need for the best bass you'll ever need. And a happy family!
12. These are nice basses and they used to be incredibly cheap - $500 each 2 years ago. In the States and for collectors these aren't particularly desirable, but they are nice guitars. I've had a number of them, particularly the electric guitar and electric 12 string versions. Good luck with the sale. It would originally have had a case as standard, which is a shame. I'd get a flight case for it as they are pretty flimsy as guitars go. the bolt on neck is a nice feature however - no problems with warping etc. I had one that was awful! Free bump etc. too!
13. The only basses I have are my 66 custom colour (Candy Apple Red) and my home-made 68 Jaco replica. Might sell that though. For about 5 years I'd have about 10 or 15 guitars on the go at one time, I used to import them from the States, particularly old precisions. Quite a few of my old girls reside with members of the forum. I got out of the market a few years back when I felt that prices started to get silly. The last 73 all original jazz I sold to Jay on here for about £1300 I think. I sold him a 78 a year or two earlier for £750! I've had enough, including a lovely 65 jazz, but I'm happy enough with the 66 now. And I even take it out and play it in public - where's the point unless it's being played?!!!
14. Another jazz from somewhere... 68 jazz - not the Hofner above!
15. Horrible Wishbass! Even odder bass Alwmbic Hofner (you've seen it but it's my 68 jazz - home made Jaco replica!) Jazzmaster (I think) Think I'm still missing a 70, 68, 77, and 75 jazz basses, about 10 vintage precisions, 4 musicmans and a few more.... Wish I'd have kept them all!!!
16. 66 Jazz bass, 68 jazz bass, 73 jazz bass and 77 precision Room full of basses, necks etc. Plus a 73 Fender Rhodes (nice) Got some more. 73 Precision Japanese Fender (I think!) Loads of Fenders... Wal These are about 30% of my old guitars. Will add a few more when I can find em'.
17. Cheers Kevin, hope you're loving the double bass and you haven't injured your hands yet trying to play it with such a high action!!!
18.
Any idea of what year and any idea why there is no case? I never understand why someone would pay £1300-1500 on a bass and not use the case?Ta
I know, it's an odd thing - I have custom made flight case for all of mine. The serial number is: E24605 I think, although am always ready to be corrected, that this makes it a 2001 model. Obviously never been gigged as if I used it it would be covered in scratches, bumps, beer and cigarette burns. This bass is too good for me.
19. I took this as part of a trade, but as much as I'd love to keep it, an encroaching £5,000 credit card debt means I have to sell it :-( It's basically an 'as new' Musicman Stingray with the 3 eq balance. It's got a Rosewood board and literally hasn't got one mark on it whatsoever. It's as good as new. What's better is the price, I'd sell it for the price of £750. It doesn't have a hard case, but comes with a soft case. It's located in Bristol and the winning buyer can come and collect and inspect as they wish! I can get as many pictures as you wish, just give me a few hours notice.
20. I'd say that's a reasonable deal. I'd take it to bits and make sure it's all there. These used to be £550 every day of the week a few years ago. Ahh the basses I bought and sold at silly prices. What was I thinking? Post some pics when you buy it (which you will I reckon!)
21. John Entwistle Book now sold! Will accept offers on the rest. L
