1. Echo everything Chili has said here. A mint (and it looks barely ever played) 66' is available here for £5950. I know David and he's a stand up guy, and there's probably a bit of wiggle room on price. It really is an investment quality piece. 2. Looks beautiful. It's also the first bass I've ever seen pictured in a bathroom!
3. Hi, I think the scratch plate may have been changed too - can't see the thumbrest on it.
4. Great track! Forgotten how good that was. Nice job with the play along. I'd say you want to try and swing it a bit more, get the left hand grooving a bit. That will come with a bit more practice.
5. To be controversial again, the neck finish showing the 'unfinished' rectangle shows another finish underneath (possibly two) which again makes it harder to identify whether the body is completely original. People with greater knowledge than I have can offer some advice, but it would be something I was keen to look at.
6. The problem here is there's no reason the neck stamp should be missing. Was the whole neck refinished? If so, why was the 'OK' stamp left? If it wasn't, then what reason would anyone have for taking it off? Often assessing. A vintage guitar involves some detective work, and that's all we're trying to help you with. It comes from a positive place!
7. Apparently he loved it too, after selling the original Jazz (a 65 I think). There's a funny story about his being asked to sign his name a few times, and then they brought out 1,000 scratch plates!
8. I had one of these, it was a beautiful bass guitar with the classic pencil thin frets as well. Nice!
9. Nice. Very nice indeed.
10. Wizard pickups are brilliant type bump.
11. Still here, any pre-Christmas offers?
12. They're beautiful things old valve amps. I used to gig two Hiwatt 100s a few years ago - wonderful amps. If I were gigging now I,d choose and EBS with a valve preamp. You get the old school valve loading, without the hassle and weight of an all valve top. If you want a pedal, Trace Elliot did one in the early 90s and you can get bass specific valve pedals on eBay (can't remember the bloke name). Dave something.
13. I've owned a lot, and currently use a 63', which is nice. If you want that Headhunters sound though (and I did at the time) I used an early 90s Stingray with the most beautifully figured maple neck run through a solid state Acoustic head with a touch of reverb and brand new Rotosounds. It cost me £500 and was just exceptional in every way. Now I want simple, thumping 60s bass as I'm moving away from the busy 16th note style to simple, old fashioned groove playing. It's also not true that they sound the same, and certainly not true that they play the same. My P-bass may have cost about the same price as my new bathroom will but it's the best playing P I've ever had. If I was gigging on weekly basis though, I'd do Musicman.
14. These are, from my experience, exceptional instruments.
15.
That is one of the best examples Ive ever seen of a 60's jazz bass. Have a free bump
That's because it's refinished. Looks like a beautiful neck on that bad boy.
16. I've had a load of them, 60s, 70s Fenders mostly, but mostly been a jazz bass guy really. Today I picked up the most beautiful 63' sunburst Precision. I'm doing the best I can to avoid telling the wife how much it cost. The neck absolutely incredible, plays as fast as the jazz really which I find very surprising - but I'd never had a good pre cbs before.
17. These are great instruments. I used to have an 06 Jazz and it was really fantastic.
18. Cheers Truckstop. I was hoping for around that figure, but had no real frame of reference for it.
19. I can't post pictures as the guitar isn't mine (and I don't have pictures of it, it's a personal sale), but it's a 64 with a truly horrendous refinish. It looks like a recent job, but would need to be completely stripped off and refinished. I wanted a proper 60s style nitro finish, and just wanted an outline of what that might cost and what goes into it really, make sense?
20. Hagstrom now sold but can't edit title of thread!
21. Love s good jazz bass too! I've had a 65, 66 (candy apple red with matching headstock - still my favourite bass), a 68, 69 and about 30 70s jazz basses and have pictures of them all! I really liked the Japanese 62 reissues, I thought they were beautiful basses and I had a lovely salmon pink one. Geddy Lee was an incredible value bass as well, one of the easiest and most pleasurable basses I've ever used. Loved it. I'm currently trying to find a pre-CBS jazz to add to the collection but they're getting tougher to find.
22. I've been offered an a 64' jazz with some original parts and some replacements. The problem is that in the distant past someone did an awful refin I want to get changed. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions and, without soliciting for business, could give me an outline of potential costs? I want a 60s heavy relic finish as that's what I personally like the best!
23. Great pickup, good condition (although there is some minor pitting to one of the screws). Works perfectly. Cheapest I can see online is £54 for a new now, so how about £35 delivered? Black Precision style bridge, brass ferrules. 24. Are the pickups from a 1972 Fender Jazz Bass?
