1. As in the other thread, can someone please buy this, because of the risk of me falling into temptation
2. I still have GAS for the Harley Benton Deko fretless acoustic. Can someone please buy it before I weaken further. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_35fl_nt_acoustic_bas_deko.htm
3.
Which is the best tuner for metal?
One that sticks a pitchfork up the user's behind if the bass is more than 15 cents out.
4. Avonmore is a great BF album IMHO. I don't buy all of his, or Roxy Music's, albums, but I'm really enjoying Avonmore. Guy is definitely playing simple when it suits the song, but being more adventurous when it suits the song. E.g. the latter part of "Driving Me Wild". Edit: Bryan is playing Leicester in May! Edit: Only poor seats still available it seems and they are £65.
5. They do look nice. Surely someone can drop into The Bass Gallery, give them a try, and post a review here.
6. Not a lot happening on ebay at the moment. That Takeharu has turned up again, but still at a too high price. The 15 string Tenessee bass has been listed again. On the other hand there's this Aria Pro II SB60. Nice, and with a low starting price, bidding is already heating up. This is how you sell a bass. 7. After seeing the thread title, I'm just happy that the OP's gear hasn't been nicked. When I saw the title, I was thinking this might be a thread where the gear had been nicked, and the insurance company was refusing to pay out. I'm reminded of the very sad story of the forumite who lost a lot of gear in a storage unit fire.
8.
Has anyone had experience with one of the hollow body (or semi hollow bodied) Harley Bentons? Im taking a keen interest in the Beatbass - (Mccartney Violin bass).
The reviews on their site seem quite good. But the first one says that the Harley Benton is near identical to the Epiphone. This worries me, as the only violin bass I've tried was an Epiphone, and I didn't like it at all. I thought it didn't play well, high action and buzzing. It could have been that I played a singular poor example. I've played a Warwick Rockbass Alien that was even worse, and those get good reviews.
9. Waterproof electronics so that you can surf and play guitar at the same time?
10. Nice to hear the tracks so far. I'm not yet up to scratch in submitting for these contests. I made a little something with a looper inspired by the photo, but main in self-critical mode. I'm tempted to build a track entirely with MIDI as I know I can do that and the timing will be perfect . However, I want to keep working on entire compositions until I can get all my timing right. This time, the major flaw seems to be my rhythm guitar for the perhaps slightly angular rhythm the picture inspired, particularly failing to mute strings I should be. The lead is a bit better, but still contains inprovisation misses between the major 'theme' of the piece. When I saw the guy's arms, I immediately got a rhythm in my head. Listening to lurksalot's piece, I wonder if the same thing happened to him I hope posting this navel gazing in the composition challenge thread isn't too distracting to the rest of you. Progress is being made and I really hope that by some time in 2015 I'm contributing.
11. No-one's bought the laser yet.
12.
Wrap the link in media tags, and change https to http. To save yourself commiting that to memory, quote a post with a working one in for an easy reminder...
Thanks. I'd noted the need for media tags, but didn't know that I had to change https to http. Hence I couldn't understand why other people's youtube videos were inlined, but mine weren't. I'd been looking at other people's postings, but didn't notice the http/https thing. Here goes nothing: Edit: Thanks!
13. Would be a bargain if Japanese. But didn't some of the very early Korean models have this headstock? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a9ba856b4 Edit: As an Aria Pro II Laser bass, isn't this one of the last Matsumoku built basses? Edit: Just in case the above isn't Japanese, here's a Cardinal with a 99p start. For Wrexhamites. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-Pro-II-Cardinal-series-Bass-Guitar-/121488152214?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c49421696
14. My offer of £25 has been declined. Well, if he can set a stupidly high price, I can make a stupidly low offer
15. Looks to be the same pickups, the same scale length, etc. Duplication city.
16.
Never Glid Before on Angels Egg features one of the sweetest and most tasteful 4 bar bass solos ever.
I'll listen to that after '2032'.
17.
Good, isn't he? Not flashy, but absolutely on it. I saw them a couple of years ago when they released the 2032 album and not only is his playing as good as ever, he had one of the nicest live bass sounds I've heard.
I listened to 'You', and am now listening to the beginning of '2032'. I agree very much with your description. Not flashy, but there's still originality and interest in his basslines. On 'You', particularly the longer tracks, it sounds to me if he has composed exactly the right basslines for the long, musically interesting, tracks he's playing on. It all just sounds right. EDIT: Digital girl mentions "php on her hard drive". I'm writing PHP as I'm listening to the album.
18. I am hearing Gong music for the first time right now. I am really impressed with Mike Howlett.
19. My entry. https://www.youtube....h?v=D_4mjNAksyU EDIT: How do you inline a youtube video on this site? I've tried looking around for information, and all I find is advice to just paste the link into a post. But, it doesn't work for me.
20. I have a Harley Benton BZ7000. It seems a very good instrument for the money. Nothing exceptional about it, but nothing really bad either. It does what it says on the tin. I haven't played an Ibanez BTB-7 or a Conklin 7 String which are the obvious competitors at many times the price to compare.
21. It's only £117 now. http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_vintmodjaguar_bass_hb.htm
22. I think that you should buy one of these: Why? Well, it's not my money. And I don't have to play it. So, I can safely recommend the prettiest looking Warwick.
23.
Don't be afraid to check out a Squire too if you're testing a Mexican against a USA Fender. You may be surprised. And also remember that pickups can be upgraded for less than the price difference between Mexican and USA bass.
I'm not enough of a bass connoisseur to really compare basses in an objective manner. But when I tried a full range of Squiers and Fenders in a shop once, I was surprised at how much better the USA made instruments felt than the Squiers, given what people have been saying about VM and CV Squiers. But, my personal experience was that the MIM Fenders didn't feel any better than the best Squiers.
24. I really like the basslines in Ferry's songs on Jools. Interesting and inventive while still serving the song. The guitarist with the Les Paul does a fair Manzanera impersonation too
25.
Buying a top end bass is not just about the quality of the instrument itself, it also has a lot to do with identifying yourself with the brand of instrument you have chosen to play in public... Some would look upon a Fodera player as a man with an uncompromising taste for quality... others would see a guy wtih more money than sense...
What would right minded bass players think of someone who owns a Fodera but can't play very well?
