1. Probably better for metal than a ukulele.
2. Spear guitars flextool.
3.
[sub]Try as they might, that Warwick Thumb is not attracting any interest...![/sub]
I'm a little bit concerned that someone will see them, and fail to notice exactly how short-scale they are "The Real Hustle" demonstrated a scam once when they were selling chairs online, and then delivering the same chair in the photo, but it's only a few inches high.
4. Agreed - thanks for the detailed review. It's a pity that the pickups and electronics aren't equal to the playability.
5. £40 quid is a good price if it's in good condition. Whether it's a good buy depends on how well it's set up. E.g. is the nut cut too high? Do you have the knowledge and tools to set it up properly?
6. What sort of bass do I need now? I've finally got a fretless and an acoustic at the same time. All my boxes are ticked.
7. I think we're back at the first post. Too few strings for an oud.
8. Ooops! I thought kora was a type of wood. EDIT: Or maybe not oops. It seems that a Kora is a very different instrument: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kora_(instrument)
9. There are plenty of listings that don't give enough information about the item being sold. But this seller doesn't seem to know what sort of instrument they are selling. http://www.gumtree.com/p/other-guitar-accessories/kora-hand-crafted-wooden-instrument-/1093800137
10. I'll make a very firm statement then - read my lips - I will not be buying any more basses for the remainder of 2014.
11. More Peaveys? EDIT: Jazz bass already sold out. That was quick.
12. I don't remember seeing a black Rick before. It looks stunning, and contrasts nicely with what I assume to be a Warwick in the photos.
13.
Do Not put temptation my way AT I was going to post about the RB414 an hour back but Karlfer's NBD put paid to that Maybe later in the week.
I'd like to hear about it sooner than that, but it's your NBD
14.
Wow When did that go up ? Absolute steal.
They are still for sale as of the time I post this.
15. Not a bass, but I stumbled across a Made in Japan Fender Strat today. I had a quick play unplugged and the neck felt fabulous to me. £250 seems a reasonable price for what it is. It had a T serial number and was marked "Made in Japan". However, on checking, there are a number of different eras that match this. It looked pretty much brand new, so I guess it's a 2007-2010 model rather than a 90s model. Earlier in the day I'd tried a Fender Modern Player strat (didn't find a single bass that I particularly wanted to try) with P90s, but the MIJ was clearly head and shoulders above it in feel.
16. Yep, pictures please. Happy New Bass day.
17. Have you played both?
18. Mine seems to be holding its tune quite well. Overall, it seems quite well made.
19. A note played on the B string often has a fatter sound than the same note played on a higher string. Another advantage of having the extra string.
20.
Had the 'shipped' email this morning :-)
Congratulations. I hope your bass doesn't end up spending several days in Cologne like mine did.
21.
You must have magic mojo in your fingers - I've noticed some things don't come up in a search.
Nope, I just look here: http://www.thomann.d...and_basses.html If a decorative R-458 comes up, I'd be very interested.
22.
Four reviews and £26 and a fretless 5-string is on its way to Zero Towers.
Yet another good man falls. Where will it all end? BTW: There are a couple of new 'decorative' items today. A white electro-classical guitar, and a shorty left handed strat. I suspect that these aren't the most desired items around here, but seeing new instruments appear in the deco list is interesting. We need to be keeping our eyes open for new decorative basses being listed. 'm tempted to write a computer program to poll the decorative instruments once an hour and tell me if there is anything new
23. I didn't mean to imply cutting down on toilet paper, just keeping things in perspective.
24. It might be interesting to compare the cost of the bass to other household expenses. E.g. the cost of toilet paper for a year. I had a look at the normal (not decoration, not B-stock) version of my bass page on Thomann. By zooming in on the label, I can see that the label on the normal bass also says that it's a five string fretless acoustic bass. http://www.thomann.d...akustikbass.htm http://bdbo.thomann....dbo/9388899.jpg (Image too big to inline). I've finally managed to get around to plugging mine in. It's got a good sound, and the four band EQ seems very powerful.
25. Mine says '5 string fretless acoustic bass guitar' on the sticker too! Oh no! It's unplayable and unsuitable for music. There's no way that I'll be able to avoid trying to play the nonexistent B string now that I know it's labelled as a five string acoustic bass guitar.
