1.
The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, they didn't last long enough for me to see them, well, I DID see the Beatles outside the Adelaide Town Hall amongst 200,000 others in 64 ..... OK seriously, Sugar with Bob Mould . They brought out a killer album and then I never heard them again
They did a few bits, all stunning in my opinion. Beaster being in my top ten of all time. He is still going and has just released another album. Perhaps the most underrated musician of all time.
2. On our first proper gig we were sharing the stage with a couple of other bands and a ladies choir (don't ask, it was a charity do) so had to move our pedals and microphones to one side. We moved them ready to start but the lead guitarist managed to pull a lead out. We were introduced before we were properly ready and the guitarist was still kneeling down sorting the cable so said to me to just say anything. The only thing I could think of was to say that the guitarist was a very religious man who had a ritual of praying before every gig. It got a good laugh from the crowd.
3. Does anyone know the difference between this and the MXR black label chorus?
4. Another vote for the smooth hound, range is superb as is sound quality and lack of delay. Customer service was brilliant too.
5. Shame, I fancied having a play with one of theirs. Thanks for letting me know.
6. Congratulations and good on you for pursuing it.
7. I have just got an Ibanez tmb30 and it's superb, you could go for new and still have a shed load of change.
8.
In case you or he are tempted to open it up and take a look, don't. Valve amps often run on very high internal voltages (4-500v not uncommon) and worse, they're DC, so if you touch the wrong thing, you're likely to meet the man in the sky with the big white beard.
When I was a student a mate had an old valve amp (for his stereo not guitar/bass) and the sound started going all muffled. He didn't drive so I took him to some back street repair guy in Derby who was supposed to be a genius with them. He probed it a bit with the top off and power on and declared one of the valves to be on its last legs. He then went to answer a phone call and came back five minutes later and just pulled the valve out with the power still on. I can still remember the flash and bang. The guy was ok but suffice to say we all needed new underwear. Sadly the amp was damaged beyond repair. The guy gave him a replacement as a good will gesture but it was not close in terms of quality from what I recall of it. It certainly gave me a healthy respect for the things.
9. I don't suppose you would be interested in a trade of a tc dark matter and some cash your way for the Fredric unpleasant companion.
10. I love watching live music so unless they are really really terrible, why wouldn't I stay? But I guess that's not everyone's mindset.
11. It's also more susceptible to moisture ingress and can bloom as a result. You can seal it with coats of PVA or similar but added to the reasons above it makes it not the best material. Bit of you have it and it's free then I suppose you can look at it from the point of view of why not? If the only thing you are using is time then you don't have too much to lose.
12.
I found this recent thread on octave pedals also very helpful. Some really good discussion about the two pedals you mentioned plus a number of others, both analogue and digital - worth checking out: http://basschat.co.u...e-octave-pedal/ I ended up sticking with my old Boss PS-6 Harmonist, which as well as being a polyphonic octave up and down pedal can provide other harmonic intervals too such as (thirds and fifths).
I had read that before I posted this. I guess, as with most things, people have a personal favourite so you end up getting a lot of possibilities which is why I have done some research and (at least think) have narrowed it down to the two above but wanted to remain open to suggestions if there was something amazing I have missed. I am still undecided and think I really need to have a play with some and see what I like best. As always on here, the experience of the members is immense and helps narrow down the options and I much prefer to hear reviews from people who use them than the people who make them!
13. You mention Arias, I have an Aria I picked up last year for £80 and it is my go to bass now if I am honest despite having several others including a Fender and an Ibanez. The Ibanez would also fall into your price range second hand and plays very well.
14.
The other major advantage of analog octavers other than tone is that there is no processing delay. Digital octavers usually lag a few ms behind the dry note, I notice it and it bugs me.
Hmmm, I wasn't aware of that. I thought the delay was down to settings/ individual pedals so that is food for thought as I am sure it would bug me as well. Thanks for all the replies, some great food for thought.
15. Quick update to say the bass safely arrived at its new home today. Massive thanks to Beedster for his generosity, it will make a big difference.
16. Just after experiences/ recommendations for an octave pedal. I like the sound of both of these from internet searches but would like real life experiences from people ideally and open to any other suggestions as well.
17.
I've seen a Shergold with crackling like that. I still can't help thinking it's has some sort of refinish over it though.
To stop the lacquer lifting perhaps?
18. I have nothing close to enough experience to offer any opinion on its provenance but personally I think it's a bit of a looker. I agree that it looks like cracking in the lacquer and I think you would struggle to achieve that if you tried.
19.
There used to be a local adult education centre near me that ran a course called "anyone can sing". I nearly went along just to prove them wrong. As a convert to bass from 6 string I did offer the option of me playing guit.
I have never sung, have never had any interest in doing so beyond a few tunes in the car so don't care what I sound like. For a recent gig we went down to a three piece after the rhythm guitarist injured himself so I ended up doing BV and just about carried it off (luckily it was mostly punk numbers). I am lucky to have access to a mate who is a music teacher and has taught singing in the past and claims to be able to get anyone to at least a passable standard. I had my first session yesterday and will continue for the foreseeable future. I will see if you are right, or if he is within a few weeks I think!
20.
He can't anyway. Civil dispute
He can claim you stole it, it may be a civil matter but it would still see you in a court of law if it went wrong. To avoid repeating the excellent post above, it's suffice to say that the rules are very clear in law and unfortunately do require more than a simple 'I assume it's mine now mate' in an email to make you sure of avoiding comeback.
21. I am in Tamworth and reasonably handy across a range of skills but never done fretwork. I have a wide array of tools and kit to problem solve if needed as well.
22.
I think I'll email them asking for a quote for P bass copy 😀
Please post the response if you do :-)
