1. I have t watched a great deal, not my sort of thing and TT on, but I wouldn't care if they sounded like cats peeing in a tin, they are doing enough being there.
2.
Git? Blue
Gentle negative term, don't think there is a US equivalent.
3. Same here too, picked up a travel bass yesterday off a guy on here, top bloke as has been everyone I have met.
4.
You might want to wait or buy used. Blue
That is why the wanted ad is up ;-) Wouldn't buy one new (and couldn't afford to at mo).
5. I set mine up myself but the guy in the music shop in Lichfield has a good reputation locally (I think it's called s and j music or something like that). I know a few people locally who use him and his prices seem reasonable from what I have heard.
6. I picked up a tip from someone on here that has worked the one and only time I needed it which was to say 'that is later/ in the second half' and the guy went away happy, when we didn't play it he came up and the end and I just told him we had run out of time but would play it next time. He was half soaked and seemed happy with that.
7. It wouldn't make me go to a gig, and like the others above I think it could be a tricky mix (ac/dc with sax?) but give it a go. You will know pretty quickly if it works or not I think.
8.
PM incoming!
Replied! I am sure this forum should come with a wealth warning! Always loved the look of the thunderbird and then the sound hits so I guess it was only a matter of time before I succumbed to it.
9. It's no good, my will has failed. There is a wanted ad up as we speak for an epiphone thunderbird (sorry Blue, my pockets just aren't that deep to stretch to a Gibson at the moment)
10. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
11. I guess it's annoying as it shows a lack of care. I make sure all my kit is always clean and well maintained. Judging from some stuff I have seen that is far from the case with everyone.
12. I bought a travel bass off Alex, very helpful from day one, top bloke to deal with. Thanks Alex.
13. And forgot to mention that you buy direct off their website too, they sometimes have 2nds as well. I have one and can't tell why it's a second.
14. I use hypnotic straps on all my stuff, very good quality and customer service. They are based in Poland I think.
15. You can't see the end of the headstock - probably a wire to the ceiling, or perhaps a very large helium ballon ;-)
16. I haven't been playing long and asked for tips when I first started playing from a guy who has years and years of experience. His reply was to make sure the beginning and end are perfectly in time, along with any whole group rests in the song and no one will notice what goes in the middle. I assumed he was joking and said as much, he replied that whilst it was a bit tongue in cheek it was generally true in most gigs and to prove it he purposefully played a few bum/ weird notes whilst nodding to me. The only one who noticed was the lead guitarist who was in on the conversation and just smiled every time - there were about 150 people in the room. No one else seemed to have a clue. I think the majority of people only notice as far as if something sounds good or bad to them. So as long as it's mostly ok and sounds vaguely like the song they expect then they miss the mistakes/ problems. If it's perfect then they just see it as being 'better'. Since I started playing I have noticed some glaring things in songs I have listened for years without a clue, so obviously your ears become much more attuned to what should be happening. If someone messes up the lyrics to a classic though it's a different matter and everyone notices then.
17. I use it all the time, but due to arthritic fingers my fretting style is hardly textbook and it often does the job of my bent ring finger, but I mix and match as feels comfortable.
18. That has helped a bit and with listening to it about thirty times one after another I think I have it. All the tabs have an octave of the first D (at G7) as the second note but I can't hear that. If I miss that out I can get a working bassline.
19.
I know it's not a tab, but the singer was the bass player and featured quite heavily playing bass in the video (on the back of a truck iirc)
Thanks will take a look, being trying to get it off an old cd I have, looked on YouTube for bass covers as they can be helpful but only one on there and I am not convinced it's close.
20. Does anyone have decentbtabs for breakfast at Tiffany's? It's a simple song but I can'tseem to pull the bass out of the song and the two sets of tabs I have found seem wrong when I play them. Any help gratefully received.
21.
First up, I'd want to know how many dates are in the calendar. I'm 50 so chart success is no longer on the menu. Forgive a brief derailment - Blue, I loved your list of bear moves. I'm layed up after an appendectomy on Tuesday and the laughing hurt which proves I'm alive. However, you forgot one, it's that slow, sultry classic the "You're Not Here For the Hunting, Are You?"
Which is the punchline to my favourite joke of all time.
22. And another vote for the Roland, I borrowed one off a mate when my old amp went pop and was amazed by the sound from such a small package. The effects are fun but not brilliant but it's a great overall small amp.
23. Or miss the three flights of stairs that are so narrow you need to go up sideways.
24. There are some great suggestions on here but it comes down to one critical point- does he want to get better? If it comes down to a lack of effort on his part and he sees that as not being an issue then that could be much harder to address.
