1.
if they are run of the mill top 40 stuff it will only attract Joe Public. If its niche music, there is a healthy vinyl collecting community for all types of music. My experience would say that you will rarely get a problem with collectors. They can be a bit picky with their grading though.
No top 40 stuff (apart from stuff like Nirvana that obviously charted at some point). Not a clue on grading, they are mint to me but whether someone else would say that I have no idea.
 2.
I've been selling some of my old vinyl collection and have done so on Ebay, no experience of other sites. So far I've not encountered any of the morons that you speak of Maybe vinyl collectors tend to fall in to the decent bracket.
How did you package them? Maybe I am being a bit unfair to eBay but I stopped selling on there a couple of years back (mostly old car and bike stuff and only a few bits and pieces) as I just seemed to come across idiot after idiot. How did you value them? Or did you just run them as auctions?
 3. I have a load of vinyl and some of it I will never play (and a lot I have never played as they are picture discs or special editions). I don't fancy risking eBay due to the morons on there and am worried a dealer will just want to pay peanuts (I have no real idea of value). Does anyone know a decent place to sell old vinyl? It's mostly grunge/ alternative/ heavy metal if that affects anything. Edit: this isn't a backwards for sale ad so please don't pm asking to buy or for specific details. I don't want to circumvent any rules or upset anyone.
 4. When I was looking for info on the Gibson studio I have just bought one of the sales patter/ ads I found said that the studio had a lighter head and neck 'much like the original', but didn't clarify beyond that. So presumably some of the modern Gibsons have a slightly different neck and head to the old style. Maybe that is the reason for some diving and others not?
 5.
Doesn't Plusgas have a freezing (cold) effect? You've used it around wood? (Or am I thinking of another product for removing rusty exhausts?)
That is the propellant in the can which helps in circumstances like you describe , the actual plusgas is a thin oil that also has a substance in it that helps break the rust down. You wouldnt use a can as it would put way to much in. Use a syringe or pipette as I suggested and you can put just a drop or two exactly where you need it. It wouldn't harm the wood but won't touch it anyway. You don't want to drown that area in any oil based substance. I used to do a lot of target shooting and our armourer used the term 'enough oil to coat a sparrows feather', it's fits in this instance too. Less is more in this case.
 6. Use a syringe or pipette to drop a bit of penetrating oil (not wd40) e.g plusgas, then after a week put a couple of drops of 3in1 oil or similar on. If you can get it out then a bit of copperslip grease is ideal.
 7.
I think it's the two hours wait when you call the tortoise from the other side of the room that would put me off!! "Here boy, here boy!" Two hours later..........."Good boy!"
good point.
 8.
It was typical of the high energy music that was usually played at, let's say, the more metrosexual oriented clubs and pubs. There were a lot of good synth bass lines coming out of that too.
Indeed, some chemical assistance used no doubt.
Great bassline! Worth re-posting this I think.... http://youtu.be/IBWY8oAnnww
Well worth posting, I had a go at it last night and it's almost hypnotic to play. I can't see we would ever play it live, but could be interesting to do a rocked up version.
 9. Sorry to hear that. We lost one a couple of weeks back, she had been my wife's shadow since we rescued her (bengal used for breeding and lived in a cage). It is very sad, we have another two, both rescues and a daft terrier which helps. I keep, joking to my wife that we need to buy a tortoise so we can have a pet that outlives us, but I don't think I would bond the same with a tortoise.
 10.
Stuff a Chiwawa in one 'ole and a Toy Terrier in t'other. Job's a good 'un.
Nah, she is used to dogs and terrorises several local mutts including a massive (but stupidly friendly) Rottweiler which is a laugh to watch.
 11.
Franky Goes to Hollywood? I have the 12 inch of that. Stop sniggering you lot at the back!
Yup, not my usual sort of music at all but I remember them as a 12 year old and the energy is amazing. The bass player (whose name escapes me) was brilliant. They did a one of big a few years back that was on the telly and the tone he had was just perfect. You felt like they had written the songs around the bass lines.
 12. Just heard two tribes on the radio, it's an awesome bassline.
 13. Hypnotic straps are very good and sensible money, may be worth looking if any of theirs fits the bill.
 14. Just booked tickets for Nottingham in November, should be a good night.
 15. Thanks for all the help everyone. Think I now have it sorted.
 16.
If you put the cab so its snug up against a wall with ports facing the wall the cat can't move the cab to get inside can it?
I use it for practice every day so not easy, I don't think it's a major issue really. It just amused me so I posted it up. Wish I had got a pic!
 17.
Surely that is down to how prepared you are to jump through hoops on request? Make it seller's discretion. If you have taken reasonable steps to show current photographs but the item is not as described in good faith by yourself there is the returns policy for them to fall back on.
I am happier than most to accommodate a buyer, what irritates is when the excuse given doesn't make sense. If the reply was genuine (from looking at another thread it appears they were offered something else which is fair enough) then I don't mind, it's the continuing messing you about that is irritating. If they didn't want it they should have just told me and not had me wasting my time.
 18. If only it were that simple, she is the most gorgeous cat we have ever had, but it seems that whilst she was waiting in the queue for looks the brain stand ran out and used a peanut instead. But seriously doubt she could fall asleep in there Or could she?
 19. Turned on my TE combo and cab tonight only for it to make a weird noise, it did this for about three seconds, then a rather startled young cat emerged from one of the big plastic holes. Stupid cat, now I am going to have to work out a way to check them before I head off to gigs.
 20.
....Or when a buyer wants you to strip a bass, show every single part, give every single dimension, and then never get back to you when you've provided said requests - double grrr!
Or you reply to a wanted ad and after a discussion give the cost including postage (which takes a while to sort as it's not UK) and get a request for pics. You waste your time sorting pics and emailing them only to get a response saying the postage is too high (it was the same before I took the pictures), so you sort out cheaper postage, reply then is that 'it might not fit'. Well it came off one of them so I am pretty sure it will go back on and not sure how the postage cost would change that.
 21.
So long as we get the appreciation as well as the blame, I'm good with that!
Indeed you will :-) I didn't think I could stretch to one but some of my classic car bits went today and I just thought stuff it, I am sure the Epi is great but it wasn't a stupid amount more for the Gibson. Sadly it's missing it's case so the hunt begins for one of those. I just can't wait to get it set up and running. Next gig is the first weekend in July so have plenty of time.
 22. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/305672-gibson-thunderbird-studio-usa-black-2005-sold/page__pid__3314221#entry3314221 I blame you guys (especially Finndave and Blue ;-) ), sold some more of my old car parts today so budget jumped a bit and deal has been struck on a Gibson which should be with me early next week.
